"Anyway, I can't escape. I can kill them right now," Cheng Jin chuckled. "Two fists can't beat four hands. I refuse to believe..."
Before Cheng Jin could finish speaking, hurried footsteps could be heard downstairs, and in no time, the person appeared at the bottom of the stairs.
"Don't move, police."
Jin Yining hooked her arm around Cheng Jin's neck and whispered in his ear, "You were able to lure my people away, but the ones who will arrest you are the police."
That sound was cheap and sleazy; it was also cool and roguish.
As Jin Yining spoke, he fired two shots directly into the man's legs and pushed him forward.
Cheng Jin lay on the ground, sweat beading on his brow from the pain. "One last question: how did you know I was here?"
Jin Yining squatted down and said in a low voice with a slightly roguish tone, "Go ask the King of Hell."
The plainclothes officer leading the group was the one Shang Ning had met before; he was the one in charge of the car accident investigation.
The man holstered his pistol, watched his men subdue the others, then stood in front of Jin Yining and gave a cursory salute. "I'll take the people back first."
"Hmm." Jin Yining nodded, watching the man take everyone away.
However, the person holding Cheng Jin failed to restrain him when they passed Shang Ning and Lin Xue. Cheng Jin suddenly broke free, grabbed a dagger from the ground, and slashed at Shang Ning.
With her back to Cheng Jin, Shang Ning was suddenly pushed and fell to the ground before she could react. When she turned around, she saw Lin Xue kneeling on the ground, her hands tightly gripping the dagger.
Jin Yining was the first to react, kicking the man away. Lin Xue, still clutching the dagger, fainted from the sudden turn of events.
"Mom." Shang Ning crawled over on all fours and caught the unconscious Lin Xue.
Jin Yining hurriedly went over and carried Lin Xue on his back. "The ambulance is downstairs," he said, frowning slightly as he looked at Shang Ning's neck, but still carried Lin Xue downstairs.
Shang Ning raised his hand to touch his neck, gasped, and saw Lin Xue's blood still on his hand. He lowered his eyes, cursed under his breath, and then went outside.
There was hardly anyone around. When Shang Ning followed, Jin Yining had already put Lin Xue in the ambulance. When Shang Ning was about to get on, Jin Yining stopped her and let the doctor leave first.
Shang Ning: "..."
Shang Ning stopped in her tracks and looked at Jin Yining, who pulled out his phone and shoved it in front of her. "Professor Shang, explain what this sentence, 'You can appear when the person arrives,' means?"
Shang Ning took a step back, startled by his phone, and looked at the text message. "This, um..." Shang Ning thought that if she told him, Jin Yining, being so petty, would probably get angry again. "I just think that someone as capable as Teacher Jin would definitely know..."
"You also think I'm using you, right?" Jin Yining put away her phone, her expression clearly unpleasant.
Upon hearing this, Shang Ning raised her hand to cover her neck, "It hurts, it hurts so much..."
"You can stay here by yourself," Jin Yining said, turning and leaving.
"Hey hey hey hey..." Shang Ning hurriedly squatted down and hugged his leg, looking around, "This is a poor, remote place, Teacher Jin, look at me, a pitiful little girl."
Jin Yining tried to pull his leg away, but couldn't. He leaned to one side with one leg straight and squatted down, letting her hug his leg. "What if I really hadn't gotten off the plane yet? What if I hadn't put this surveillance device on you? Do you think you could have held out until I got here?"
"I think Teacher Jin isn't such a careless person, right? See, I trust you." Shang Ning said, blinking her eyes, looking incredibly sincere.
Jin Yining chuckled, and Shang Ning thought that Jin Yining's chuckle was particularly artistic, making even a fake smile seem a bit like a slap in the face.
Jin Yining moved her uncomfortable legs, and Shang Ning hugged her even tighter.
"Really, Teacher Jin, don't you think it's quite a coincidence that we can be so in sync without even discussing it?" Shang Ning said, blinking her eyes.
