Chapter 3, Chapter 3: "So, Feng Xingyun..."
"So, Feng Xingyun..."
In his dazed state of trying to stay conscious, the last words he had heard kept echoing in his mind.
He couldn't understand the specific content, and his injuries didn't allow him to comprehend it instantly. In repeated recollections, each sentence was gradually pieced together logically.
"Click".
The hospital room door was gently opened, and Liu Duanhe suddenly opened his eyes. The words that kept echoing in his dream made him feel as if he had been dreaming all night. He was exhausted and had no strength in his body. The worst feeling was in his head. He was so dizzy that he turned pale and felt like vomiting.
The person at the door paused for a moment, then closed the door and came in, asking knowingly, "You're awake?"
Various memories flashed through Liu Duanhe's mind like a slideshow. He frowned and remained silent. When his memories reached the time in college, he matched the name and the face, and then the conversation came to mind.
"Feng Xingyun, do you like Liu Duanhe?"
"He's a good person, please don't be prejudiced against us."
"Do you like him?"
"Yes, I am his boyfriend."
"So, Feng Xingyun, this is your relationship."
The prejudice stemmed from the fact that they were both men. Although the university was relatively open and tolerant, and many men confessed their feelings to Liu Duanhe, there were always some who couldn't accept it. The person who asked the question was probably one of those who couldn't accept it, and yet he and Feng Xingyun were actually lovers.
When did they get together?
Liu Duanhe never thought he would like someone. He even thought he might spend his whole life alone. But his memories of college were unexpectedly blurry, like a revolving lantern flashing on double speed, and they were gone before he could even see them clearly or recall them.
He still finds their relationship unbelievable.
Liu Duanhe paused for a moment, then hesitated before asking, "Feng Xingyun?"
Feng Xingyun noticed that something was wrong with his expression and asked, "How are you feeling?"
Liu Duanhe slowly sat up and leaned against the hospital bed. He honestly said, "I feel very dizzy and nauseous."
Feng Xingyun frowned and said, "The doctor said you have a concussion, but the wound doesn't need stitches."
The blood that had flowed earlier had really frightened him; it turned out to be just a cut on the skin.
Feng Xingyun wasn't close enough to Liu Duanhe to know his parents' phone number, so he couldn't contact them. He also couldn't bring himself to abandon Liu Duanhe in the hospital. While considering this, he selectively ignored Zhao Yi's presence. After all, he felt guilty leaving Liu Duanhe with Zhao Yi, someone who harbored ill intentions towards him.
Moreover, he doesn't have the habit of doing good deeds anonymously.
Liu Duan smiled gently, her phoenix eyes, already upturned, bright as spring flowers. "Thank you for bringing me to the hospital. I'll pay you back how much you paid for my hospitalization."
Feng Xingyun hadn't forgotten their past conflict, and he said without any politeness, "I've sent you the bill via WeChat."
Even though Liu Duanhe still had a headache, his IQ hadn't dropped. He still said flawlessly, "Excuse me, my phone and SIM card are in my dorm. Could I borrow your phone? I'll call the housekeeper and ask him to get me a new one."
When Feng Xingyun saw Liu Duanhe's smile, he realized that Liu Duanhe had become hypocritical and boring once again. He leaned back in his chair listlessly, no longer having the desire to talk to him. He handed his phone to Liu Duanhe and took out another phone to play games.
Liu Duanhe didn't care about his neglect at all. Even though he thought Feng Xingyun was his boyfriend, he figured there were all kinds of people in the world, and if it didn't work out, they could break up.
Moreover, Feng Xingyun saved him this time, and based on that alone, Liu Duanhe's tolerance could be slightly increased.
However, when it comes to his lover, Liu Duanhe believes that any problems should be discussed and addressed. Although he doesn't care about his partner's attitude now, he believes that problems need to be voiced to be resolved and prevent them from becoming accusations later on.
Feng Xingyun had just opened the game. He remembered that he was playing the game before he left home, and it must have ended by now. He checked the message notifications and breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, his teammates hadn't reported him because of his contributions in the early stages, and his account was still active.
Just then, he heard Liu Duanhe suddenly say, "Why did you suddenly change your expression? Did I do something to offend you?"
Feng Xingyun looked up in surprise. He hadn't expected Liu Duanhe to be so direct. Given his usual character, shouldn't he pretend not to see his attitude?
He touched his nose. Feng Xingyun always said what he meant and hated beating around the bush. He disdained hiding and lying, and said directly, "You smiled at me just now, which was too fake. It was like a standard smile that you practiced in front of a mirror more than ten thousand times. Although it looked good, it was completely devoid of emotion."
Liu Duanhe pursed his lips, subconsciously touching the slight upturn at the corners of his lips.
He said apologetically, "Okay, it was my problem."
Feng Xingyun was even more surprised. He thought that, given Liu Duanhe's personality, he would use his usual gentle demeanor to dodge the question, but he didn't expect that Liu Duanhe still had a sincere heart.
Liu Duanhe, believing the misunderstanding had been cleared up, immediately dialed the housekeeper's number.
Shortly after he hung up the phone, the butler arrived at the ward. Fortunately, Feng Xingyun had booked a private room for him; this public hospital did not have VIP rooms.
As soon as the well-dressed butler entered the ward, he looked around at the decor and his voice immediately choked up. Carrying the bag in his hand, he rushed to Liu Duanhe's bedside and said with heartache, "Young Master, you have really suffered."
"On my way here, I notified the private hospital under my family's name, and they will transfer you to another hospital immediately."
As he spoke, the bodyguard pushed the wheelchair in. Liu Duanhe had long been fed up with the conditions here. His extremely picky standards for quality of life actually made him much more difficult to deal with, but he usually didn't show it.
The old butler had worked for them for decades, dating back to his grandfather's generation. He had practically watched Liu Duanhe grow up and knew Liu Duanhe's personality extremely well. He truly treated Liu Duanhe like his own grandson. Just hearing him talk about it on the phone made the old butler feel like his heart was being torn apart.
He gave a shout, and eight bodyguards rushed into the ward, cramming eleven people into a single room.
"Young Master, have them stay with you while you're in the hospital. Tell them what to do if you need anything."
It's like taking eight steps in one step; the last time Feng Xingyun witnessed such a scene was in the Jia family in "Dream of the Red Chamber".
This extravagant display had completely drawn Feng Xingyun's attention. His family were businessmen who had seized the opportunities of the times and made their fortunes in business since his parents' generation. They were completely different from the Liu family, who were famous before the founding of the People's Republic of China and whose reputation had simply become more low-key after the founding of the PRC. They were extremely pragmatic, but still had powerful connections.
Their family is currently riding high, having risen to prominence in just over a decade. Feng Xingyun, who is known for his rough lifestyle, couldn't help but marvel at Liu Duanhe's ostentatious display. His family must be considered a prominent and influential family, at least on the big screen.
"The blue bag contains your clothes, which were just washed, dried, and sterilized this morning. The other red bag contains your phone."
The old butler wore the same polite and courteous smile as Liu Duanhe. He walked up to Feng Xingyun on the sofa and greeted him, "Thank you, young student, for bringing our young master to the hospital."
His eyes were incredibly sharp, and his full head of white hair hadn't affected his memory. The amiable Emperor smiled and said, "Young classmate, you must be from the Feng family, right? Thank you for taking care of my young master."
He took a card out of his pocket and solemnly handed it to him, saying, "This is our Liu family's way of thanking you. There's no password, but there's five million inside. We heard that you like playing with cars, so please feel free to play a game."
The old butler spoke modestly, but Feng Xingyun wouldn't look down on five million because of that. You see, his parents started from scratch and were very frugal. Apart from things that were just for show, everything else was just functional. They treated Feng Xingyun the same way. Apart from the one his parents gave him when he came of age, all the cars he owned were bought with all his pocket money and New Year's money, and none of them cost more than five million.
The body of the Liu family heir is indeed extremely precious; even his family's butler can casually offer five million as a token of gratitude.
Feng Xingyun took the card. Liu Duanhe watched the back and forth without reacting at all. He was concerned about something else and asked the old butler with a little nervousness, "Does my grandfather know that I'm in the hospital?"
He sat in his wheelchair, unable to resist leaning slightly forward.
The old butler shook his head under his gaze, and Liu Duanhe breathed a sigh of relief. "I answered the phone while the master was away, and secretly arranged for bodyguards to come over."
"The master's body cannot withstand any stimulation right now, and I dare not let the master know."
Liu Duanhe's handsome face showed a hint of sadness and melancholy. He nodded and said, "You must keep this from Grandpa. Don't let him know that I'm injured."
The old housekeeper was busy handling the transfer procedures. Liu Duanhe hesitated about how to arrange things for Feng Xingyun. After all, he was her boyfriend, but she didn't know if her grandfather could accept this, so they definitely couldn't go through with it openly at the moment.
Fortunately, Feng Xingyun broke the deadlock himself. He stood up and, as always, oblivious to subtle cues, said directly, "I've already asked your advisor for leave for you at the college. I asked for leave for the afternoon and evening. Since you have a housekeeper to take care of you, I'll head back first."
Liu Duanhe nodded. This plan was acceptable, saving him the trouble of finding excuses.
Feng Xingyun and Liu Duan went downstairs with them and parted ways at the door.
When Zhao Yi returned to Liu Duanhe's room with the takeout food from the hospital cafeteria, the empty bed indicated that the room was deserted.
Feng Xingyun had completely forgotten Zhao Yi, while Liu Duanhe was not fully conscious and did not remember Zhao Yi's existence very clearly.
Since he woke up, Feng Xingyun has made no mention of the existence of another person.
Zhao Yi first called Feng Xingyun. He hadn't realized that Liu Duanhe had been transferred to another hospital. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Did you take Liu Duanhe out?"
Feng Xingyun only remembered Zhao Yi when he went out to hail a taxi, and just as he remembered her, he received a call from him.
I don't know why, but I feel inexplicably guilty.
