Chapter 167 Greed

Chapter 167 Greed

Putting away his phone, Shi Jingsheng pulled Lin Yiluo around and walked back to the room, his steps much lighter than when they came.

"Let's go to Ziyuan's room and check the surveillance footage. It'll be much clearer than eavesdropping here."

Lin Yiluo nodded, her eyes full of anticipation, her little hands tightly gripping Shi Jingsheng's clothes.

The two quietly pushed open the door to Mo Ziyuan's room. Shi Jingsheng skillfully walked to the desk, turned on the computer, and logged into the monitoring software.

The moment the screen lit up, the view of the living room downstairs appeared clearly in front of me.

After being kicked away, Zhou Li quickly got up and knelt down in front of the Mo family head again.

The anger in Mozi's eyes hadn't subsided, and before his raised foot could even land, Madam Zhou rushed over and grabbed his arm, her voice filled with panic.

"Lili is still so young, how can she withstand such kicks! The most important thing now is to go find her father!"

The Mo family leader took a deep breath, finally suppressing his anger, and pointed at Zhou Li on the ground, shouting sternly.

"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and change your clothes, then come with me to Grandpa's!"

Zhou Li felt as if he had been granted a pardon, and scrambled back to his room, forgetting even to pick up his coat that had fallen on the floor.

The surveillance footage fell silent instantly. Shi Jingsheng pursed his lips, his tone full of lingering satisfaction.

"That's it? I haven't had enough yet, this is so boring."

Lin Yiluo's face fell slightly, and she quietly echoed her.

"I thought... I could watch the excitement a little longer."

The butler moved swiftly, and in a moment he pushed the food cart in. When the silver lid was lifted, steam and aroma wafted out.

The glistening Dongpo pork was arranged on a celadon plate, while the golden-brown steak on the Western-style plate next to it was sizzling. Even the fruit for the meal was cut into delicate pieces, making the feast a delight to behold.

“Young Master Jingsheng, this was specially prepared at my master’s request. Please take a look and see if anything is missing, and I will have someone add more.” The butler bowed his head and spoke respectfully.

Shi Jingsheng reached out and took the bone china tableware from the food cart, his fingertips gently stroking the rim of the cup, but there was a hint of nonchalance in his eyes as he asked as if it were just a casual remark.

"I think I heard some noise downstairs. What happened?"

The butler paused almost imperceptibly, then regained his composure.

"It's nothing serious. It's just that the new maid doesn't know the rules and accidentally made the master angry. It's been dealt with."

Shi Jingsheng didn't ask any further questions. He simply lowered his head and poked at the vegetables on his plate with his fork, a faint smile playing on his lips.

The Mo family leader thought that finding another successor would allow him to control Ziyuan, but unfortunately, in Ziyuan's eyes, Zhou Li was nothing.

……………

Old Master Mo twirled a purple clay teacup between his fingers, the rising steam blurring the expression in his eyes. When he looked up at the sound, the sunlight in the living room fell precisely on the Mo family head and Zhou Li.

"Why are you here?" The old man's voice was hoarse with the marks of time, and his emotions were unreadable.

“Dad, I heard from the steward that Ziyuan is here,” the head of the Mo family stepped forward quickly, deliberately softening his tone, “so he brought Lili here. It’s time for us, grandfather and granddaughter, to get together.” He said this half-truthfully, having repeatedly thought about how to make his presence known to the old man on the way here.

Grandpa Mo nodded slowly, his long, slender fingers tapping lightly on the table. Now in his seventies, even his sharpest edges had been worn down to a gentle warmth. He truly longed for family harmony, and upon seeing the two of them arrive, a faint smile appeared on his lips.

But before the smile could even warm up, Zhou Li's gaze was fixed on the stack of documents with the word "inheritance" printed on them, as if drawn by a magnet.

The edges of the paper were whitened by the morning light, and the head of the Mo family saw it too. His heart skipped a beat, but he still had a smile on his face: "Dad, you are in good health. Why are you thinking about the inheritance so early?"

Before he finished speaking, he had "casually" picked up the top document, and his fingertips tightened slightly when they touched the paper.

The edges of the paper were bleached white by the morning light, and the Mo family leader saw it too. His heart skipped a beat, but he still had a smile on his face.

"Dad, you're in good health, why are you thinking about the inheritance so early?" Before he finished speaking, he had already "casually" picked up the top document, and his fingertips tightened slightly when they touched the paper.

Zhou Li had somehow appeared behind him and exclaimed in surprise upon seeing the contents of the document.

"Grandpa, you gave him all your inheritance, why should he get it?"

"Slap—" A crisp slapping sound suddenly rang out.

Zhou Li covered her face, half of her cheek instantly turning red, her eyes filled with disbelief.

"Father! Why did you slap me? Grandpa gave all the inheritance to him, we have nothing!" He became more and more agitated as he spoke, his voice trembling with grievance and tears.

The head of the Mo family dared not look into the eyes of the old master Mo, and cold sweat had already seeped out from his back.

He knew his father's temper all too well; he hated it most when others coveted his things, especially since he was sitting right there. The atmosphere in the room instantly turned cold, with only the soft clinking of the old man's teacup against the saucer.
