Chapter 581 A Desperate Gamble

"General Hans, urgent news has arrived from the rear."

As the multinational coalition forces penetrated deeper into Japan, a soldier carrying a telegraph machine hurriedly spoke to Commander-in-Chief Hans, his face grim, even ashen, his eyes filled with boundless despair. However, he remained calm and did not reveal any crucial intelligence in his despair.

"What exactly happened in the rear?" Hans's heart skipped a beat when he saw the telegraph soldier's expression. He quickly pulled the telegraph soldier aside and asked in a low voice, barely audible.

"A massive horde of sea monsters has attacked our fleet. Our navy is finished. Countless corpse monsters are emerging from the sea and attacking our base. The numbers are innumerable. The rear base requests our immediate return for support. The rear admiral reports that there are too many corpse monsters emerging from the sea, and sea monsters are also lurking in the ocean. They won't be able to hold out much longer and will try to retreat to the second base." The telegraph operator replied in a low voice, his tone filled with utter despair. He knew all too well what would happen without naval support and supplies.

After hearing the telegraph operator's report, Hans also began to despair. However, Hans quickly recovered; panic and despair were not typical of a general.

After thinking for a while, General Hans gritted his teeth and said, "We are not at our wits' end yet, we still have a chance."

"I believe the other attacking forces have already received the news. Immediately contact the Marshal and the other attacking forces; I have a new attack plan to report. Now that the sirens have appeared, they will definitely blockade the sea to prevent rescue. Even if a new fleet comes to our aid, it will be difficult to break through the sirens' blockade and rescue us. Instead, we will easily be devoured by the sirens again. The supplies we have are enough to last three to seven days. I request that we take a desperate gamble. All attacking forces should immediately launch a full-speed, all-out attack on Mount Fushi to eliminate the leader of the Jie organization. Perhaps we can find a way to eliminate these corpse monsters, and perhaps we can deprive them of their command. Soldiers in the rear bases, except for those in the Fourth Base who are carrying supplies to pursue us, should hold their ground and buy us time. This is our only hope for survival now."

"Yes, sir." Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope rekindled in the telegraph soldier's eyes. He immediately stood at attention, took the telegraph machine from his back, and began making urgent contact.

...Ten minutes later...

The telegraph operator reported to Hans: "General Hans, the Marshal agrees to your plan. All troops will advance at full speed towards Mount Fuji, with a focus on protecting the exorcists from various countries. We must eliminate the giant serpent monster, Yamata no Orochi, that is entrenched on Mount Fuji. Soldiers at the rear base will focus on defending against the corpse monsters and sea monsters that appear in the sea, in order to buy time for the main force to advance."

"Tell everyone the current situation immediately." Upon hearing this, Hans breathed a sigh of relief and immediately ordered, "Tell them that we have no way out. Killing the leader of the Jie organization is our only way to survive."

"Yes, General." Upon hearing this, the telegraph operator immediately issued the new orders to each unit.

"The supplies can last at least seven days. Let's hope it succeeds!" After giving the order, General Hans looked eastward towards the discovery site, in the direction of Mount Fuji. It was a do-or-die situation, a fight with no way out. Fortunately, Japan isn't very large, and this place is only about 500 kilometers away from Mount Fuji. If it were China, he would never have dared to propose such a method. Even without the monsters' interference, the supplies alone wouldn't last that long.

"Buzz..." The sound of airplane propellers rose again above the soldiers, but this time the sound was abnormal, as if there was a malfunction. The sound of the propellers made many soldiers look up at the sky with curiosity.

"Caw..." The loud bird cry mingled with the hum of the propeller, but it was more penetrating, traveled farther, and was sharper than the sound of the propeller, making people's eardrums hurt.

In the sky, a giant bird, twice the size of a fighter jet, was flapping its wings as it chased after the fighter jet whose propellers were already emitting black smoke.

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh..."

From the giant bird's beak, fireballs the size of small cars were spat out like machine guns, crashing into the fleeing fighter jets like fiery meteors, exploding continuously on either side of the aircraft.

"Boom..." To the soldiers' stunned gaze, the fleeing fighter jet was hit in the fuel tank by a fireball and instantly exploded into a huge fireball in the sky, with the shattered fragments and flames scattering in all directions.

However, this was not the end. After the fighter jet exploded, a giant bird in the sky quickly flew over, opened its huge beak, swallowed the parachuting pilot whole, cried out again, glanced disdainfully at the army on the ground, and then flew away.

"What was that just now? A giant bird monster?"

"How could there be such a big bird? Luckily it didn't fly down."

"Why is there only one plane? Shouldn't our planes always be in formation with wingmen?"

Watching the giant bird fly away in the sky, the soldiers on the ground couldn't help but discuss among themselves, filled with doubt or fear.

"Our air force is finished too!" General Hans lamented as he watched the giant bird fly away in the sky. Why was there only one plane in the sky? It was probably because the other planes had been shot down; otherwise, they would have helped. His thoughts answered the soldiers' questions.

They initially thought that human technology would give them a huge advantage against monsters that relied solely on their own growth and didn't understand the power of technology. However, it now appears that they underestimated these monsters. The corpse monsters were just appetizers, the very bottom of the monster hierarchy. The truly powerful monsters have only just begun to make their move.

"General, the armored vehicles that were scouting ahead have reported that a large number of corpse monsters have appeared twenty kilometers ahead, as numerous as the ocean, and they are now moving towards us." Misfortune struck one after another. Before Hans could figure out how to deal with the flying monsters in the sky and the disadvantage of losing air support, even worse news was relayed by the telegraph operator.
