Gunfire erupted in the makeshift base; the sounds of rifles, machine guns, and heavy machine guns exploded like beans popping in a barrel. The charging zombies fell like wheat being harvested in a downpour, falling in droves. Even though the zombies could ignore most bullets, many still struck their heads directly in the dense hail of bullets. Their advance slowed considerably, but they continued to close in.
