While the townspeople were living in fear, strangely enough, these Japanese soldiers were only searching one person at a time. After searching one house, they would immediately run to the next. Apart from the house being in a mess and some things being smashed, there was no other damage. Even real gold and silver and pretty girls were no longer tempting. Who would dare to do anything else? The Japanese officers who followed the search were immediately slapped several times across the face until it was swollen.
"What's wrong with these Japanese devils? Have they suddenly changed their ways?"
"Is he out of his mind?"
"They've all gone mad? How is that possible?"
"Could it be some kind of infectious disease that can drive people insane?"
The townspeople watched the Japanese soldiers' crazy and strange behavior and whispered among themselves, speculating and discussing it.
"Looks like they're searching for someone. Who could it be? Did they steal some very important intelligence?" Seeing the Japanese soldiers' strange behavior, some intelligence agents hidden in the town began to speculate.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh..." Less than an hour later, footsteps echoed again outside the town, and more Japanese soldiers ran into the town in formation. Then, just like the previous Japanese soldiers, they kicked open doors from house to house and joined the search. Some of the Japanese soldiers quickly gathered everyone together.
"Fellow villagers, the Japanese commander means no harm, don't be afraid." After gathering the people together, dozens of traitors held up a thick stack of papers and shouted loudly, "Fellow villagers, the Japanese commander is looking for someone. If any of you know where that person is, please take the Japanese commander to him. The Japanese commander will reward you handsomely with 100,000 silver dollars."
"One hundred thousand silver dollars? How is that possible?"
"Oh my god."
The residents were shocked to hear this and started discussing it. One hundred thousand silver dollars was more than some rich people could earn in a lifetime.
"Fellow villagers, this is 100,000 silver dollars! If any of you can lead the Japanese to that person, this money will be enough for you to live comfortably for several lifetimes. Moreover, the Japanese have promised that the reward will be given immediately and will never be taken back. Even if you want to take the money and leave, the Japanese will not stop you." Seeing the town residents' expressions, the traitor immediately added fuel to the fire, and the Japanese soldiers also cooperated by bringing over large boxes, which were filled with gleaming silver dollars.
"My God, these heartless Japanese devils must have really gone mad." The residents' discussions grew louder, and some even began to stir with urges.
"Quiet, quiet!" the traitor shouted. "I have a portrait of that person here. I'll distribute it to everyone right now. You all need to hurry up and find him. If someone else finds him first, the 100,000 silver dollars won't be yours."
After saying this, the dozens of traitors immediately distributed the portraits they had worked on overnight to the town's residents.
