Led by traitors and tempted by 100,000 silver dollars, some townspeople, blinded by greed, followed the Japanese soldiers in their search. However, many more did not move, either unwilling to take the money that went against their conscience, or knowing that on their own, the money was a hot potato—even if they got it, they couldn't keep it, and might even lose their lives. A group of people who followed the search, however, harbored other intentions.
"Listen, the person the Japanese are looking for is extremely important. Go find them immediately. If you can take them with you, that would be best. If you can't take them, try to get as much information as possible from them, then kill them. They absolutely cannot leave them for the Japanese." The hidden spies also sprang into action and joined the search. They knew that the person the Japanese were looking for was extremely important, given that the Japanese were willing to pay such a high price.

"Grandpa, this kid is really valuable, 100,000 silver dollars! I've never even held ten silver dollars in my hands in my entire life."
Hearing the chatter outside the window, Erdan looked at Wang Han, who was hidden at the foot of the bed, and swallowed hard.
"It's quite valuable. I've never received ten silver dollars at once in my entire life." Erdan's grandfather nodded, then quickly shook his head and scolded, "You kid, stop thinking about that right now. We can't take this money that goes against our conscience. We might take it but not live to spend it. Besides, the Japanese are going crazy looking for this kid, and they're willing to give him 100,000 silver dollars, which means he's definitely important to them. We can't be traitors. We'd rather die than let the Japanese find him."
"The Japanese devils are almost here. I just heard people outside say they're searching very thoroughly, even searching under stoves where there's no way someone could hide, and they're even diving into wells to look for people. They're not letting any possible hiding place slip by." Grandpa Erdan's acquaintance walked in tremblingly, saying fearfully, "If this continues, they'll be found sooner or later, and then the Japanese devils will kill us too..."
"Bang..." A bright gunshot suddenly rang out in the town. In the town, a figure completely covered in handguns pulled out a pistol, shot and killed a Japanese soldier, and immediately ran desperately out of town.
"There he is!" Shouts rang out in the streets and alleys as men and women pointed in the direction the black figure had fled and shouted loudly.
Upon hearing the sound, the Japanese soldiers searching the surrounding area immediately abandoned the houses they were searching and chased after the fleeing figure. The Japanese soldiers who were about to search the house of Erdan's grandfather's acquaintance also quickly moved to surround and block the way.
This is a scheme by spies from various factions lurking in the town to confuse the Japanese, distract them, and buy them time, giving their people more time to search.
"Wait, wait!" The Japanese soldier, chasing after the fleeing figure, shouted in both Japanese and Chinese as he gave it his all.
"Bang bang bang..."
The figure being chased looked at the Japanese soldiers desperately pursuing him, and while running quickly, he turned around and fired at the pursuing Japanese soldiers.
Faced with his counterattack, the Japanese soldiers chasing him did not fire back, not even considering merely wounding him. They simply dodged for a moment and then continued charging towards him relentlessly.
This made the spies in the town even more aware of the importance of the person the Japanese were looking for. But what surprised them even more was yet to come.
Japanese soldiers rushed into the town from all directions. Faced with their encirclement and pursuit, the man who had deliberately drawn their attention was quickly cornered inside a resident's house. Outside the house, hundreds of Japanese soldiers surrounded it in layers.
Several Japanese officers, along with some traitors, hurriedly arrived.
"Listen up, you inside! Don't put up any futile resistance. Lay down your weapons and surrender immediately. The Japanese officer might spare you some pain, otherwise..." A traitor who knew some Japanese rushed out to make a good impression and shouted loudly into the house.
"Smack."
Before the traitor could finish shouting, a Japanese officer who had rushed over from behind him slapped him hard across the face, swelling half of his cheek.
After finishing his slap on the traitor, the Japanese officer looked at him seriously and said in broken Chinese, "You, whatever I say, you shout, you understand."
"Understood, understood," the traitor said, bowing and scraping as he covered his face, which was swollen halfway up.
"Yoshi." The Japanese officer nodded in satisfaction, straightened his uniform, and bowed very politely towards the room, saying, "Respected sir, we mean no harm. There is a misunderstanding between us. Our division commander and commander-in-chief greatly admire your abilities and would like to make friends with you. They would like to invite you to our division headquarters to clear up the misunderstanding."
"Respected sir inside, the Japanese officer meant no harm. There's been some misunderstanding between you and the Japanese officer. His Excellency the Division Commander and the Commander-in-Chief greatly admire your abilities and wish to... wish to become friends with you. They wish to invite you to the Division Command Headquarters as a guest to clear up the misunderstanding between you and the Japanese officer." The traitor hurriedly repeated the Japanese soldier's words. The more he repeated them, the more cold sweat poured down his forehead, and he could barely speak coherently. As a traitor who worked for the Japanese, he knew what the Japanese division commander and the Commander-in-Chief were, and he remembered what he had just called out.
"Hahaha, you little devils, stop daydreaming! You want me to go with you? No way!" A shout came from inside the house. Although he desperately wanted to use this opportunity to assassinate a high-ranking Japanese official, unfortunately, he wasn't the person in the portrait.
