Chapter 10 Mission

Chapter 10 Mission

On Yunxiao Peak, all nine inner sect elders stood on the stage, except Jian Anning.

Some people in the crowd below were whispering and asking why it hadn't started yet, while others were explaining to the new brothers and sisters about Elder Jian's "glorious deeds" that hadn't been seen for a long time.

"You don't know, Elder Jian is often like this. He's late for the competition and is dragged here by the sect leader. He won't even compete properly when he's on the stage."

"Not only that, the inner sect elders sometimes come to the Transmission Hall to preach. The other elders talk about their cultivation insights, but Elder Jian talks about which winery in the town at the foot of the mountain sells the best wine."

"But he is a Yuanying elder after all. Will he bear a grudge against us if we say this?"

"No, Elder Jian is quite easy to talk to. As long as you don't steal her wine gourd, she'll do anything."

"quiet."

On the stage, the white-haired Yun Zhongzi said, looking into the distance, "Elder Jian has arrived."

Jiang Tan arrived just in time and placed Jian An Ning directly on the stage.

So she lay there out of place, breathing evenly, and it was obvious that she was sleeping soundly.

The people on and off the stage were thinking different things, but Yun Zhongzi just walked a little closer and called out to Jian Anning softly, "Wake up."

Jian An Ning sat up suddenly, with a hint of red in her eyes.

What is this for me?

She looked around with the dazed look typical of someone who had just woken up, and heard Yun Zhongzi's voice coming from not far away.

"The draw for the Nascent Soul Elder competition will now begin."

Jian Anning followed the others in a daze, and then she saw Chu Menghuai approach her with a hint of excitement, saying, "Elder Jian, you promised me that you would have a real fight with me."

Why did she beat Chu Menghuai?

Jane Anning instinctively felt that there might be something wrong with her cognition. She shook her head, trying to restore her confused mind.

However, Chu Menghuai had already told Yun Zhongzi that the fight between her and Jian An Ning would start first.

The other people on the stage have already gone down, and the surrounding area is crowded with Qingyun Sect disciples waiting to watch the confrontation between the Yuanying stage seniors.

Jian An Ning finally figured everything out and thought to herself, why did she fight with Chu Menghuai?

Chu Menghuai had already clasped his fists and bowed to her, saying, "Elder Jian, there's no need to hold back. Casualties are normal in battle."

Jian Anning was speechless for a while.

She held back? What did she hold back?

Jian An Ning thought about it and decided to get ready, deciding to fall to the ground and admit defeat as soon as Chu Menghuai attacked her.

Anyway, she knew Chu Menghuai well enough, and he would not come to fight with murderous intentions.

Unfortunately, Jane Anning made a mistake.

Chu Menghuai attacked directly at her vital point, intending to cut off half of her head. Even after she dodged, the opponent showed no intention of giving up. It looked like a life-and-death duel.

Jian Anning pondered for a moment, then waved to Yun Zhongzi, the monk who was serving as the referee outside the arena, and said, "I admit defeat."

"Jane Anning!"

Chu Menghuai's next move was forcibly taken back by Yun Zhongzi's restraint. She felt a little depressed and also a little angry at Jian An Ning.

"I fought hard," Jian Anning said with innocent eyes blinking, "Can't you just take the beating if you can't win?"

Chu Menghuai only felt a surge of blood and energy rushing back.

Yun Zhongzi announced the winner of this bout, but the winner spat out blood and looked unhappy, while the loser happily found his disciples and asked, "How were the results of your competition?"

Fan Qingyue and Jiang Tan looked up at the sky and down at the ground respectively, neither saying a word. Only Lu Fei, an honest man, stepped forward and said to Jian An Ning, "You lost."

Jian An Ning patted his shoulder gently, her expression gentle, and said, "It's okay, you've only just started on the path."

Lu Fei: ...

He didn't care too much at first.

But he saw that Fan Qingyue and Jiang Tan both looked as if they had seen a ghost.

"Master, are you okay?" Fan Qingyue's hands trembled slightly.

In the past, it was considered a very good situation if Master didn’t lie on the ground, rolling around and saying “How could I lose?”

Fan Qingyue felt a hand gently patting her shoulder. Jian Anning was still smiling slightly and said, "Didn't I lose too?"

Then he saw Jian An Ning squatting down and drawing circles on the ground, with a very gloomy aura around her.

Anyone with a discerning eye could see that Jian An Ning deliberately didn't want to compete with Chu Menghuai, so why was she so dejected?

Fan Qingyue thought.

He instinctively sensed something strange about Jane Anning, as if her body and soul were not in sync, and so he tried hard to put her joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness where they should be.

He felt a chill down his spine.

Just at this moment, the competition among the Yuanying elders was over, and the sect leader Yun Zhongzi re-announced the rankings of the elders, and Jian Anning, who was squatting on the side, was called back to the stage.

She looked like she had not yet recovered from the blow of failure, but Chu Menghuai seemed even more exasperated than her.

"Elder Jian, how could you do this?" Chu Menghuai whispered.

How is she?

Jian Anning tilted her head and looked at Chu Menghuai, expressing her confusion.

"The ten elders of the Qingyun Sect's inner sect, headed by the Great Elder..."

Yun Zhongzi announced their rankings and the resources provided by Qingyun Sect.

Because of Jian An Ning, Yuxuan Peak is undoubtedly the last one, but she only has three disciples, so the resources are enough for them to use.

Jane Anning doesn't care about resources or rankings, but she is happy to use this as an excuse to tease her apprentices.

So, she walked towards her disciples with a stern face.

I have to say that Jane Anning's face looks very serious when it turns cold, as if she is a sword made of ice that can pierce people's hearts directly along with her gaze.

Both Fan Qingyue and Jiang Tan had their hearts in their throats.

"Our Yuxuan Peak has been ranked last for who knows how many times in a row."

The already bad atmosphere plummeted to a freezing point after Jane Anning said this.

"Master, I will continue to work hard and it will never be like this next time!" Fan Qingyue hurriedly wanted to say something to break the situation.

Jiang Tan also stepped forward with a determined look and said, "Next time, we must fight for the honor of Yuxuan Peak."

Jian Anning nodded slightly, looked at her last disciple, and said, "What about you?"

"I will do my best." Lu Fei said after a moment of silence.

Jian Anning nodded with satisfaction and was about to return to her usual state when she heard her young disciple say again: "However, whether it is me, my brothers and sisters, we are all truly trying our best to defeat our opponents."

"Only Master, you have been treating the competition you constantly emphasize as a joke."

Fan Qingyue never expected that his junior brother could say such extraordinary words.

He quickly pulled his junior brother behind him, and Jiang Tan cooperated with him tacitly. He took a step forward, knelt on one knee and said, "Junior brother is still young, so I may have said something wrong. I hope Master will forgive me."

Jian An Ning blinked, tilted her head slightly to look at them, and casually helped Jiang Tan up. She smiled and said, "If you say that, someone who doesn't know me would think I'm one of those villains in the storybooks who seems to die early but actually planned it for a long time."

"Master, you're joking."

That feeling of emotional mismatch appeared in Fan Qingyue's heart again, so that he felt that the atmosphere at the moment was very weird, but he didn't know how to break it.

Fortunately, a ray of fire came and saved the day. It was a message from the Great Elder.

"So annoying."

Jian An Ning complained as usual, let go of the disciples who were trembling with fear unconsciously, and flashed towards Yunxiao Peak.

Fan Qingyue took a deep breath.

"Master, your condition is not right, right?" Jiang Tan said, pursing his lips.

"Of course. Master is not like this usually. Where did you find her?" Fan Qingyue asked.

"It's at the old place in the back mountain, no different from before," Jiang Tan said after reminiscing. "Every time, Master would sleep under that tree, hugging the wine gourd."

She pondered for a moment, then continued, "If there's any difference, it's that I didn't use any magic before, and the mountain road was bumpy, so Master woke up on his own while walking."

"And this time, Master used magic to reach Yunxiao Peak, and was awakened by the Sect Master."

Fan Qingyue crossed his arms, thought for a moment, and said, "That's where the problem lies."

Lu Fei didn't understand what they were saying, but she understood one thing and asked, "Do Nascent Soul cultivators also need to sleep?"

Jiang Tan glanced at him, shook his head slowly, and said, "Normally, it's not necessary during the Foundation Establishment Stage."

Fan Qingyue finally remembered that his junior fellow apprentice wasn't very familiar with the situation at Yuxuan Peak, so he explained to him, "Master is usually a very easy person to get along with, but sometimes he seems to be possessed."

He scratched his head and said, "Neither of us could figure out what was going on. We asked Master, but he wouldn't answer. Others didn't even notice this subtle abnormality in Master."

"Brother, are you referring to the situation just now?" Lu Fei asked with his eyes lowered.

Fan Qingyue nodded.

Then he heard Lu Fei reply in a much firmer voice than his: "That's Jian Anning."

Jiang Tan looked up at him, not knowing where this junior brother got the confidence and assurance from.

Then Lu Fei covered his chest blankly and said, "I heard my heart say this."

Fan Qingyue and Jiang Tan looked at each other and saw the strangeness in each other's eyes.

On the other side, Yunxiao Peak.

Jian An Ning almost rushed into the hall directly. The great elder had not arrived yet, and Yun Zhongzi was standing there, as if he had been waiting for her.

The man, whose face was still as young as a teenager, stroked his beard and asked her with a smile, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Jian Anning was about to explode, and shouted, "I feel uncomfortable everywhere! How can you wake someone up in the middle of a sleep?"

She squatted down on the spot and pretended to be a mushroom.

Yun Zhongzi didn't seem surprised and asked, "When will you recover from this illness?"

Jian Anning's face was almost wrinkled into a ball, and she said reluctantly: "Who knows?"

"Then when will you be better?" Yun Zhongzi asked again.

Jian An Ning was so unhappy that she started rolling around in the hall, and said helplessly, "Maybe take a day off?"

Yun Zhongzi just nodded and said, "That's good."

Jian Anning was startled when she saw the Great Elder rushing over at this moment. He took out the notebook he was carrying and pretended to look at it for a while before saying to her, "Elder Jian, the workload of your Yuxuan Peak is much less."

Jian Anning felt hopeless and sat up, but said expressionlessly, "So?"

"The mission to investigate the monster riot in Fuyu is now entrusted to you, Yuxuan Peak."
