With the matter that had been on her mind finally resolved, Xu Zhi felt relieved and even ate half a bowl more at dinner. This made Bai Ying and Bai Guo, who were serving her, very happy. No matter what, as long as she could eat, she would recover quickly.
Zheng Boyuan returned from the government office earlier than usual today. After returning, he stayed in his study until dinner time. When Bai Ying sent someone to invite Zheng Boyuan to dinner in the backyard, she was told that Zheng Boyuan had asked that dinner be delivered to his study.
Bai Ying found it strange. Her son-in-law usually came to the backyard to have dinner with his daughter, so why was dinner being delivered to the study today?
However, Bai Ying didn't mind. She just told Xu Zhi that her son-in-law probably had some official business to finish and was still busy in the study. Xu Zhi didn't mind either. Zheng Boyuan was so busy that he wouldn't come home for dinner for several days at a time, and Xu Zhi was used to it.
Zheng Boyuan sat alone in his study. He could sense lately that Xu Zhi had something on her mind, and it was something very important. After a busy day, Zheng Boyuan didn't have time to sit down and think about it properly. After returning from the government office, Zheng Boyuan found himself a quiet space and began to slowly consider what Xu Zhi had been keeping to herself.
Zheng Boyuan meticulously analyzed the situation, thinking it over bit by bit. He always felt that Xu Zhi hadn't completely given up on the pastry shop. When Xu Zhi was still busy with the pastry shop, Zheng Boyuan could feel the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment emanating from her heart. Zheng Boyuan had also built this business from scratch, so naturally he knew the sense of accomplishment that came with achieving success.
Zheng Boyuan ate his dinner with a poor appetite, and after thinking about his thoughts again, he got up and went to the backyard.
When Zheng Boyuan arrived, Xu Zhi was strolling around the house. Seeing Zheng Boyuan come over, Xu Zhi smiled and said, "I ate a bit too much for dinner. Bai Ying and Bai Guo said I can't go to sleep right away. It's better to walk around a bit to digest."
Bai Ying brought in a pot of freshly brewed herbal tea to invigorate the spleen and stimulate the appetite, and said, "Miss, you're in a good mood tonight and have eaten a lot. Madam has been telling us that eating too much at night is bad for your health. Miss is still recovering from a serious illness, so although it's good to eat more, it's still dinner, so we should be careful."
Xu Zhi and Zheng Boyuan sat on the couch, one on each side of the kang table. Bai Ying poured tea for them, and seeing that they seemed to have something to say, she withdrew.
Seeing Zheng Boyuan sitting upright, Xu Zhi smiled and said, "Brother Boyuan, is there something you want to tell me?"
When Zheng Boyuan saw Xu Zhi's beaming face, he felt a pang of heartache because her complexion was still haggard and she even looked a bit thinner due to her illness. He took Xu Zhi's hand and said with shame, "Ah Zhi, after thinking it over, I realize that I've delayed you."
Xu Zhi looked at Zheng Boyuan in surprise. Zheng Boyuan lowered his head and said softly, "Why don't you go back to the capital and continue doing those things that make you happy?"
After her initial surprise, Xu Zhi calmly asked, "Brother Boyuan, why would you think that?"
Zheng Boyuan raised his head, smiled gently, and said, "I've been with you for so many years, and although we've been apart quite a lot, I still know what kind of person you are. You're not the same kind of person as Sister-in-law Feng and the others. Keeping you locked up in the inner quarters all day will only slowly wear down your spirit. Azhi, I'm not the kind of person who insists that my woman stay at home all day to be a wife and mother. Do what you want to do."
Hearing this, Xu Zhi felt extremely comforted, yet also somewhat saddened. Just then, Zheng Boyuan brought up the topic, and she wanted to clarify things. Xu Zhi understood very well that the two had been married for several years and would be living in the same house for many more years to come. Chen Zhaoci had once told Xu Zhi that the worst thing for a couple living together was a lack of trust between them. Sometimes, this trust could be undermined by a lack of timely communication, allowing small conflicts to slowly escalate into major ones, until the conflict became irreconcilable, ultimately leading to the two becoming strangers.
Therefore, Xu Zhi believes that good communication is essential.
Xu Zhi pushed the cup of tea in front of Zheng Boyuan toward him and said, "Brother Boyuan, since you brought this up, let's have a good talk about it."
Seeing Xu Zhi's solemn demeanor, Zheng Boyuan couldn't help but sit up straight.
Xu Zhi picked up her tea, took a sip, and put down the teacup before slowly saying, "We are husband and wife, and in the future we will not only share wealth and prosperity, but also share hardships. It's not just me who stands behind you, but also Brother Boyuan who stands behind me. There are some things we need to talk about clearly."
This was the first time Zheng Boyuan witnessed Xu Zhi's aura shift when she was serious. It was then that Zheng Boyuan realized that Xu Zhi possessed genuine talent and ability to grow from a small shop into a business known throughout Daliang. Although young, Xu Zhi had experienced trials that allowed her to mature gradually, like a fledgling bird learning skills amidst various storms. Zheng Boyuan didn't want to cripple this already fully-fledged fledgling; he wanted her to continue growing and enjoying the thrill of battling the storms.
Zheng Boyuan nodded and said, "Azhi, it's also my fault. I've been in Miaozhou for so many days, but I haven't been able to sit down and have a proper talk with you. You're right. We're husband and wife, and we should trust each other. Don't worry, whatever you do, I'll agree to it and support you."
