Chapter 39. What a clever way to quench thirst by looking at plums!
The car quickly arrived at the entrance of the waterfront villa.
Seeing that Shang Shu was still tilting her head, Gu Sui smiled and gently tugged at the drooping scarf: "Aren't you hot after wearing it all the way?"
Shang Shu then turned her head slightly and shook her head.
The car was warm with plenty of air conditioning, and the little girl's hair was fuzzy from being rubbed by her scarf, and her face was rosy. Gu Sui found her really adorable.
Seeing that the person didn't seem to be getting off the bus, she smiled and said, "Then I'll be going?"
Shang Shu then realized she was in a hurry and quickly pulled the scarf covering her mouth away: "Why didn't you invite me in for a seat?"
She realized her words were inappropriate after saying them, and quickly added, "I meant I wanted to eat something. I didn't eat enough for lunch, and I'm really hungry now..."
Gu Sui had only been teasing her, but seeing that she was so willing to take the initiative, he was delighted and couldn't hide his smile: "Since you've said so, how could I possibly refuse?"
After saying that, she took the person's hand and got out of the car: "Why aren't you full?"
Shang Shu thought for a moment, and realized that one percent of the reason was the overcooked rice noodles, and ninety-nine percent was because of her eagerness to see Gu Sui, but she refused to say it.
So she pouted slightly and muttered, "It just doesn't taste good."
Gu Sui knew the little girl was picky about food and thought she was angry because the food was bad, which made her even more adorable. So she coaxed her gently, "How about we have the housekeeper make something delicious later? Or I can make it myself."
Shang Shu was led by a warm hand and walked slowly beside the person: "Eat whatever you like, don't make a fuss."
Actually, this was just an excuse. Her real intention wasn't to have Gu Sui, who had been on a plane for over ten hours, cook her a lavish feast.
"Okay," Gu Sui replied with a light laugh.
Shang Shu changed her shoes and looked around the house. It was no different from when she last came. Even though the owner was not there, the waterfront was still spotless, and the few things that were there to begin with seemed to have remained in the same place.
"What are you looking at?" Gu Sui handed the coat to the housekeeper, gave a few instructions about cooking, and then leaned close to Shang Shu's ear to ask.
"No... just looking around." Shang Shu got goosebumps from the sudden breath and her blood started rushing to her head again.
Gu Sui led the person to sit down on the sofa: "Wait here for me for a while, I'm going to take a shower, okay?"
Although it was their own plane with maximum comfort, it was still a long journey, and taking a shower as soon as they got home was Gu Sui's bottom line, as she was very clean.
Shang Shu found the question ambiguous no matter how she listened to it. If she was going to wash, she should just wash. Why did she have to ask her specifically?
She blushed and picked at her fingers, saying, "Whatever..."
Gu Sui glanced at the empty table and said apologetically, "There aren't many snacks at home. Can you hold on a little longer?"
Shang Shu obediently hummed in agreement, then urged, "Go on ahead, don't worry about me."
Gu Sui smiled and then reluctantly went upstairs.
Shang Shu scrolled through her phone for a while, but then got really bored. However, out of "politeness," she didn't want to wander around someone else's house, so she only planned to look around in a small area.
Everything on the waterfront was new, as if it had just recently welcomed its new owner.
As Shang Shu was thinking, she unknowingly wandered into the spacious open kitchen.
"Miss Shang." The housekeeper greeted Shang Shu while preparing the meal.
Watching the skilled butler, Shang Shu suddenly became curious: why was the butler cooking the food himself here?
Upon careful reflection, she realized that during her visits to the waterfront, she had indeed only seen the housekeeper; there were no additional cooks, maids, or anything like that.
She simply sat down at the counter on the island and chatted with the butler: "Do you manage everything here by yourself?"
The butler smiled faintly upon hearing this: "Yes, the second young lady doesn't like too many people, and her daily life is simple. I am enough for her on my own."
oh.
Shang Shu nodded; this did indeed match her impression of Gu Sui.
She remembered that when they were in Aicheng, Gu Sui's family also had a housekeeper. Later, after they got together and she moved in with Gu Sui, Gu Sui simply stopped using that housekeeper.
Shang Shu gently tapped the brand-new island counter with her knuckles: "Did she always live here before?"
She paused, then added, "This house looks very new."
The butler stirred the spoon in his hand and gave Shang Shu a meaningful smile: "The second young lady only moved here not long ago, saying it was closer to your company."
Shang Shu's face flushed red. She didn't know how much the butler in front of her really knew about their relationship.
She pretended not to understand the butler's meaning and racked her brains to reply, "It's not far indeed."
But why did she feel that this wasn't the main point she wanted to ask?
Shang Shu then realized she had gone off-topic, so she took a few deep breaths to calm her racing heart: "Where did she live before?"
Upon hearing this, the butler did not suspect anything and simply answered honestly, "I used to live with the young lady and the others."
Living with Gu Qi?
Before...how long ago?
Was it before I went to see Gu Qi several times?
Shang Shu's desire for that answer began to stir uncontrollably again.
Just as she was about to ask more questions, she heard a cold voice behind her.
"What are you talking about?" Gu Sui slowly walked to Shang Shu's side.
The butler, sensing the situation, moved a little further away.
Is that a cat? It makes no sound when it goes downstairs.
"It's nothing." Shang Shu pretended to be calm and turned around in her chair. "I was too hungry, so I came to take a look."
She blinked and saw that Gu Sui's face was still flushed from the steam in the bathroom, and he exuded a faint fragrance.
The person was wearing a navy blue silk nightgown. Although there was a long-sleeved shirt covering her, the V-neck camisole underneath still revealed her fair and alluring collarbone.
"Is this what they call 'quenching thirst by looking at plums'?" Gu Sui rested one arm on the island platform and chuckled as he looked at the person.
Seeing that her sleeve was half hanging off her shoulder and could slip off at any moment, Shang Shu was afraid that she would be exposed again in the next second.
I'm going to die.
What a convenient way to quench thirst by looking at plums!
She hurriedly stood up, grabbed a button not far from the collar, and closed Gu Sui's open long sleeves. As she sat back down, she glanced at the butler in the distance.
A few seconds later, she heard a soft laugh from above: "Ah Shu, you buttoned it wrong."
Shang Shu then looked up and carefully examined her masterpiece. In her haste, she had indeed made a mistake.
"You...you do it yourself." She blushed and pointed haphazardly.
But before he could finish waving his hand, he was caught.
Then she saw the other person take her other hand and place it on the button not far from her chest, along with the first one, and a seductive voice drifted into her ears: "It's here."
Could this person have done it on purpose?
lust, seduction,
In the past, she probably wouldn't have even considered this, since the word had absolutely nothing to do with Gu Sui.
But now... she really isn't sure.
With the arrow already on the bowstring, she had no choice but to quickly fasten the button and then swiftly pull her hand back in front of her.
"Why isn't your hair dry?" She noticed Gu Sui's wet hair ends and changed the subject.
Gu Sui smiled, swept her hair to one side, and looked down at the water droplets clinging to the ends of her hair: "I was afraid you'd have to wait too long."
Thump.
Shang Shu was afraid of causing her heart rate to become irregular, so she looked around for something to dry her hair: "You'll catch a cold if you do this."
Although the luxury villa maintains a constant temperature year-round, she still couldn't help but worry.
"I'm not that fragile." As he spoke, Gu Sui cupped the person's fidgeting head.
Their eyes met, their palms were warm, and Shang Shu's heart skipped a beat.
However, just a moment later, she remembered the presence of the housekeeper, so she hurriedly removed Gu Sui's hand from her face and whispered, "There...there are people here, don't touch me."
Unexpectedly, Gu Sui seemed completely unconcerned, and whispered in the other person's ear, "Then... is it okay if no one's around?"
That's insane.
Just a second before Shang Shu was completely captivated, her stomach suddenly let out an untimely growl.
Gu Sui chuckled softly and gently pinched the little girl's ear: "Looks like you're really hungry. Let's eat first."
The butler had already plated the food and arranged it exquisitely on the table.
Shang Shu closed her eyes, exhaled, and tried to lower her blood pressure.
At the dinner table, Gu Sui continued to serve Shang Shu food with great enthusiasm, until her bowl was piled high with food.
"I can eat by myself." Shang Shu finally finished swallowing the previous bite, only to see the next bite already in her bowl.
Is this person feeding small animals...?
Gu Sui hummed in agreement, but his hands didn't stop moving.
Every time she saw Shang Shu's slender wrists, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her. The girl wasn't like this when she was with her, but since she came back, she's either seen fainting or sick.
While serving the girl some snacks, she tried to distract her: "Xiangyi's school has a performance before Christmas, and they said they'd like to invite you to see it too."
"Okay." Shang Shu agreed readily, thinking that the jewelry exhibition should have already come to an end by then, and she wouldn't be too busy.
After saying that, she took a few more bites with difficulty: "Gu Sui, I really can't eat anymore."
She could sense that every time she ate with Gu Sui, Gu Sui wanted her to eat a lot, but she knew that she had gained a lot of weight back than before.
"Okay." Gu Sui was afraid that the person might actually feel unwell after eating it, so he didn't force them. After all, there would be plenty of time in the future.
Shang Shu took a tissue and wiped her mouth. Mentioning Gu Xiangyi reminded her of her conversation with the housekeeper earlier. She asked casually, "By the way, you used to... live with Sister Gu Qi and the others?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Sui paused, his hand reaching for the cup, before calmly continuing, "Yes, I stayed for a while. What's wrong?"
Shang Shu was a little stunned by her question and subconsciously replied, "Nothing, just asking."
She realized that the other person had skipped the reasons and gone straight to the result, adding a rhetorical question, indicating that they didn't intend to say more.
Gu Sui loosened his grip on the cup slightly: "Were you just talking about this with the housekeeper?"
"Hmm." Shang Shu was a little disappointed because she didn't get a clear answer, but she didn't dare to show it too obviously.
Gu Sui didn't say anything more, but simply moved the cup a little further away: "A-Shu, shall we go see a psychologist tomorrow?" She smiled, not wanting the topic to change too abruptly, "We made an appointment before we left."
Shang Shu hadn't forgotten about it, but she had only promised Ji Songning today that she would go to Hall B tomorrow. She thought for a moment and said, "How about the day after tomorrow? I have to go to the exhibition hall tomorrow. It's a bit too rushed to make an appointment with Liang Wanzhi for tomorrow now."
"Okay, I'll take you tomorrow." Gu Sui agreed readily, seeing that the other person's suggestion made sense, and also finalized the itinerary for tomorrow.
Shang Shu then remembered that Gu Sui had just returned from abroad; she had almost forgotten about him because of his energetic appearance: "No need, you should get over your jet lag."
"It's alright, I'm not tired." Seeing how considerate the person was, Gu Sui couldn't help but smile. "Anyway, the driver has already gone home, so don't ask him to come again tomorrow."
