Chapter 62. Yours.

Chapter 62. Yours.

Feng Yuan's expression remained unchanged; she simply stopped in her tracks as she was about to leave.

The ward was spacious. Shang Shu stood in a corner by the door, some distance from Shang Wei's bed. Shang Wei looked unwell, whether from her emotions or illness, she didn't know. She coldly watched the two of them without saying a word.

"Get this unfilial daughter out of here. I don't want to see her even once." Shang Wei didn't even look at Shang Shu.

Seeing this, Feng Yuan quickly and gently advised, "Don't get so angry. The doctor just told you to rest well."

"Get out of here!" Shang Wei grabbed a cup from the bedside table and threw it at Shang Shu, but it didn't hit her hard enough and just landed on the ground not far away. Only then did he make a brief eye contact with Shang Shu.

Shang Shu already felt that this sudden action was somewhat abnormal, and when she met those eyes, she saw a hint of sorrow and helplessness in them.

Clearly, today was not a good time to discuss business. Shang Shu nodded slightly, said nothing, and walked straight out.

"Sister..." Shang Shiqing took a small step forward when she saw the person come out, but her eyes were glancing at the door behind her, as if she was watching to see if Feng Yuan would suddenly come out.

"Let's go." Shang Shu ignored Shang Shiqing, gestured to Song Lanye, and continued walking.

Song Lan was also a little surprised that the person came out so quickly, but she still followed him neatly.

Only after getting into the car and the partition being raised did Shang Shu finally relax.

"Mr. Shang, are you alright?" Even though the soundproofing wasn't bad, Song Lan still managed to hear what was happening inside.

"Hmm." Shang Shu closed her eyes, her thoughts a little jumbled.

Before she could even speak, Shang Wei inexplicably started scolding her. Despite having a chance to be alone together, he unusually rushed her away. She wasn't sure if she was just imagining things, but there was no denying that Feng Yuan was eager to replace her with someone new.

Shang Shu felt as if she were looking at flowers through a fog, and felt deeply passive.

"Lan Ye, help me investigate Secretary Kong these next few days." She rubbed her forehead.

She had just met him last time, and now he was quitting, claiming it was a resignation. But Shang Shu couldn't say how much of that resignation was voluntary and how much was forced. This couldn't be a coincidence, but she thought that with Feng Yuan's abilities, she shouldn't be able to make someone disappear from the face of the earth. If she couldn't talk to Shang Wei smoothly, then Secretary Kong was one of the few breakthroughs.

"Okay, are you sure you want to get involved?" Song Lan was also a little worried. Although she had never personally experienced the struggles of wealthy families, she was well aware of the dangers involved. At best, one could lose all their money; at worst, it could lead to a murder.

Shang Shu looked up at the person beside her and gave a bitter smile: "Do I even have a choice?"

Yes, did she even have a choice?

She once thought that as long as she took the initiative to distance herself, she might never have anything to do with these people in the business again. But she found that she was wrong. She could not choose her birth. She was born with the blood of this family, so there were many things that she could not do just because she wanted to give up.

Just as there is always a barrier between her and Shang Wei, just as she and Feng Yuan are destined to be unable to coexist peacefully, just as she cannot ignore her mother's hard work, just as no matter what achievements she makes, she still carries the name of a merchant's daughter.

She never intended to get involved, but she had to wake up and realize that this was something she couldn't escape and would eventually have to face. Now, Feng Yuan's actions had simply accelerated the process.

"Then...should we tell Gu—"

"No." Shang Shu interrupted very quickly, even she herself was a little dazed, "Not yet."

She didn't want this to bother Gu Sui, or cause her any trouble or upset, especially since Gu Sui was busy with other things lately.

These are all reasons she can give.

But she knew that none of these were the main issues. What was hardest to suppress was her pitiful pride, something that she herself often resented and couldn't completely forget because of love.

When the car arrived at the waterfront, Shang Shu didn't rush in. Instead, she stood at the entrance for a while, thinking about getting rid of the disinfectant smell. She avoided the gate and walked to the side, kicking the pebbles on the ground as she wandered around, lost in thought.

Why don't you come in?

When Shang Shu heard this, Gu Sui was already almost beside her. She had been so lost in thought that she hadn't noticed the commotion at the front door.

"I'm a little carsick, I just wanted to get some fresh air first," Shang Shu made up a lie and moved closer to the person.

Seeing that Gu Sui was only wearing a thin outer garment, she frowned slightly and reached out to pull it up for him. "Let's go inside. Be careful not to catch a cold."

Originally, she wanted to cover him with her coat and hug him, but then she remembered that she had just returned from the hospital and that Gu Sui was very clean, so Shang Shu refrained from doing so.

Seeing that the girl's face was a little pale, Gu Sui pursed his lips and didn't say anything, but simply reached out to take her hand and walked inside.

After changing her shoes and taking off her coat, Shang Shu washed her hands and asked, "How did you know I was back?"

"I see the car." Gu Sui reached out and hugged Shang Shu from behind.

"I haven't changed my clothes yet."

"It's alright." Gu Sui rested her chin on the other person's shoulder and breathed softly.

Shang Shu smiled, and casually took Gu Sui's hand from her waist and washed it under the running water as well: "You've been waiting for me all this time, haven't you? You missed me that much?"

"Hmm." Gu Sui readily admitted it. Seeing that the water had been turned off, he shook his hand slightly and pulled it back. He then went to the side, grabbed a cup, poured himself a glass of warm water, and went to the refrigerator to look for something.

"What are you looking for?" Shang Shu asked curiously, wiping her hands.

"Honey." Gu Sui took out a small jar of honey, added some to the warm water he had just poured, stirred it, and handed it to Shang Shu. "Drink some if you're carsick, it'll make you feel better."

Shang Shu bit the inside of her lip, took the gift from Gu Sui's hand, feeling both touched and a little guilty. She sipped it slowly, feeling incredibly sweet inside.

"Gu Sui, how can you be so good to me?" Shang Shutian licked her lips, not wanting to miss any sweetness.

Gu Sui raised an eyebrow at the person and said slowly, "You only realize how good I am now?"

Shang Shu placed the cup on the counter, turned around, wrapped one arm around Gu Sui's waist, and pinched his chin with the other: "No, not at all. Our Dr. Gu is the best. I've always thought so."

Gu Sui chuckled and reached out to touch Shang Shu's lower back: "Are you still feeling unwell?"

Shang Shu shook her head with a smile and gently kissed Gu Sui's lips: "I'll go change my clothes and take a shower first, okay?"

Gu Sui responded softly, moistened her lips, and then reluctantly let go.

It's honey-flavored and sweet.

Because she was preoccupied with something, Shang Shu took almost forty minutes to shower. It wasn't until Gu Sui, worried, knocked on the door that she snapped out of her reverie, quickly tidied herself up, and came out of the bathroom.

"Are you tired?" Gu Sui looked at Shang Shu's somewhat tired face in the mirror as he dried her hair. He didn't ask why it had taken so long to wash her hair, guessing that the girl was tired after a busy day.

Shang Shu sat on the round stool, stroking the fuzzy surface, her voice slightly weak: "A little."

Gu Sui softened his movements, his fingers gently running through the person's hair: "Would you like to take a nap? I'll wake you up for dinner."

"Okay, then I want you to hold me." Shang Shu deliberately tilted her head back and snuggled against the person's softness, acting coquettishly.

"Okay." Gu Sui turned off the hair dryer, gently placed his still-warm hand on Shang Shu's neck, and lowered his head to kiss her lips, which were reddened by the steam.

As dusk fell, the setting sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows into the room, bathing the large bed where they lay embracing.

Shang Shu rested her head on Gu Sui's arm and squinted, playing with the light and shadow with her hand. She rotated her wrist, and the marigold on her wrist seemed to be dyed gold by the sunlight.

Gu Sui's throat bobbed slightly, and he raised his arm to reach for the remote control on the bedside table: "I'll draw the curtains."

Hearing the somewhat muffled voice, Shang Shu pressed down on Gu Sui's arm, refusing to lift her head.

She rolled over and stroked Gu Sui's high, straight nose: "What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"

"No." Gu Sui refused to admit it, and instead took the left wrist in her hand, gently rubbing it with her fingertips. "Shall we go for a check-up tomorrow?"

Shang Shu followed the person's movement and looked down at them.

Oh, that's why.

Her eyes darted around. "I did agree before, but now I'm thinking of going back on my word."

Shang Shu raised her eyelids, looked at Gu Sui's puzzled gaze, and curled her lips: "Unless... someone gives me some benefits."

After saying that, she supported herself and slowly moved down.

Like a mischievous cat, but she doesn't fight with the blanket, because the blanket has already been pulled off at some point.

"Ah Shu..." She hadn't taken a shower yet.

Gu Sui knew the girl wanted to please her, but she couldn't bear to see her so tired and still trying to please her.

"Don't refuse me." Shang Shu's voice was soft and gentle, giving no one a chance to argue.

Shang Shu knew that Gu Sui was more susceptible to this than anything else. She knew that Gu Sui liked to take it slow, just like when brewing tea, waiting for the tea soup to slowly develop its flavor; she knew that Gu Sui liked to touch her hair, just like when he was blow-drying her hair, gently and repeatedly; he would tell her the pressure with his earlobe, the pace with his breath, and he liked to bite the back of her hand when it was almost done. She was so familiar with everything about her, so familiar that it was like knowing how many scallions she would discard with her next bite, how to please her most effectively.

"Relax a little." Shang Shu said softly, her head aching a bit.

Soon, the moonlight overflowed with trembling light.

Shang Shu slowly stepped forward and sealed Gu Sui's half-open lips with hers as he gasped for breath, whispering in his dazed and astonished gaze, "Yours."

"A-Shu...you..." Gu Sui's throat moved, her breath was disordered, her ears turned even redder, and the faint scent of white moss that had been transferred to her lips and teeth still lingered between them. Her voice gradually weakened, "You've gone astray."

She showed a rare, delicate shyness.

"Hmm, but I see some people are actually enjoying it." Shang Shu moistened her lips, snuggled into Gu Sui's arms, and gently stroked Gu Sui's arm to help him calm down.

Looking at the hickeys she had left all over the place, Shang Shu couldn't help but reach out and touch them. She figured that if it got to summer, she would probably have to be more restrained. It wouldn't be good to let someone wear a turtleneck every day under the blazing sun. Thinking this, she chuckled softly.

"What are you laughing at?" Gu Sui's voice was a little hoarse, and he put his hand on Shang Shu's head and rubbed it.

"I was wondering if I'd been too rough with you." Shang Shu said this, but her hands were still restlessly fiddling with things.

Gu Sui, who had just recovered, couldn't stand this. He hurriedly pulled the person into his arms, which made the person in his arms laugh again.

Shang Shu swung her ankle contentedly, then hoisted her leg over Gu Sui's shoulder: "Gu Sui, shall we spend Christmas at home this year?"

With a little plan in mind, Shang Shu suppressed the corners of her lips that wanted to curl up. This was their first Christmas together after so many years. She didn't want to go to an expensive restaurant or have a complicated and grand ceremony. She just wanted to snuggle up with Gu Sui in a cozy place where it was just the two of them.

Gu Sui swept her eyelashes twice and smiled, "Okay, why do you suddenly want to stay at home?"

She remembered that the little girl liked places with a strong festive atmosphere. They spent four Christmases together, kissing under the Christmas tree at the University of London, strolling through Christmas markets eating waffles and drinking mulled wine, walking through streets and alleys browsing shops decorated with colorful balls and bows, and even making a special trip to London to see the angel lights on Regent Street.

Shang Shu pondered for a moment, her eyes flickering: "Hmm... I just wanted to do something different, just the two of us."

Gu Sui lowered his head and kissed the little girl's hair: "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."

Every time she heard these words, Shang Shu's heart would melt, and she snuggled closer to the person, feeling wonderful.

"Take a nap," Gu Sui gently coaxed, patting Shang Shu's lower back.

Shang Shu smiled with her head down: "But the sheets are wet."
