Chapter 135 Unexplained Cold War

Ye Xinning held the phone, utterly bewildered.

Did something suddenly happen that delayed your ability to pick her up?

Thinking this, Ye Xinning didn't wait for Shen Lin to come and pick her up.

She went back to Ming Mansion by herself.

Walking into the living room, she didn't see Shen Lin. Aunt Ning asked her, "Madam is back."

Ye Xinning nodded. "Has the master returned?"

"The master has returned and gone upstairs."

Ye Xinning asked in surprise, "Are you back?"

Shen Lin is back, so he must be busy at the company, right?

Why didn't you answer her calls? Why didn't you go pick her up?

Ye Xinning had too many questions in her mind.

She told Aunt Ning that she understood.

Then he turned and walked upstairs.

She went upstairs to the bedroom but didn't see Shen Lin, so she thought for a moment and went to the study instead.

She stood at the door and knocked.

There was no sound from inside. Ye Xinning knocked on the door again, pushed it open, and found Shen Lin inside.

Ye Xinning stood at the door, looking at the people inside, her gaze gradually deepening.

She went inside and sat down opposite Shen Lin. "When did you get back?"

"I just got back not long ago."

Ye Xinning responded with an "oh".

She thought she would explain something, but Shen Lin didn't say a word.

The smile on her face faded, until finally it was almost expressionless. "Really? I thought you were busy at the company."

Shen Lin remained silent. Ye Xinning raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Then you go ahead with your work, I'm going to the bedroom."

After she finished speaking, she turned and left without waiting for Shen Lin to reply.

The smile on her lips vanished the moment she turned away.

People's patience is limited. Faced with Shen Lin's inexplicable behavior, she gave him time to explain, but Shen Lin offered no explanation.

Whether it's why he suddenly didn't pick her up at the law firm, or why he was so cold even after returning home.

She reflected on whether she had offended him in any way, or whether she had done something wrong.

But she couldn't figure it out no matter how much she thought about it. To her, Shen Lin's actions were undoubtedly nonsensical.

She wasn't without a temper either. Even Shen Lin didn't want to talk to her anymore, so why should she keep trying to be nice to him?

Ye Xinning couldn't do it, and didn't want to.

He can talk if he wants, but she's not a mind reader who needs to know what he's thinking all the time.

Moreover, the things Huo Yanzhi said today have been going back and forth in her mind, and she needs some time to sort them out.

...

Ye Xinning went back to her bedroom, took a shower, and then kept working on her own. Shen Lin didn't come back, as if he had endless work to do.

But who knows if he was actually busy, or if he simply didn't want to come back to the bedroom to see her.

Ye Xinning went to sleep after finishing her work. She was too tired, and she figured that Shen Lin didn't want to see her since he wasn't back so late. So, she didn't need to wait any longer.

Only the bedside lamp was still on in the bedroom. The bedroom door was opened from the outside, and Shen Lin walked in.

He stared intently at the sleeping woman on the bed, his gaze deep, and the memory of what he had witnessed outside the law firm fueled his rage.

Have she and Huo Yanzhi been seeing each other frequently lately?

Especially today, they hugged each other when he arrived, but what were they doing before he arrived?

Shen Lin had too many questions in his mind, and it was these doubts that prevented him from being as intimate with Ye Xinning as usual. Whenever he spoke to her, he would think of the scene he had witnessed at the law firm that night.

Shen Lin sat on the edge of the bed for a long, long time before finally getting up and leaving the bedroom again.

...

The next morning, Ye Xinning woke up to find herself alone in bed. She reached out and touched the other side of the bed, which was cold and devoid of warmth.

It was obvious that Shen Lin hadn't come back last night. Ye Xinning sat on the bed, feeling a throbbing pain in her head.

She racked her brains but couldn't figure out why Shen Lin was suddenly angry.

Everything was fine until last night.

Like Shen Lin, Ye Xinning wasn't in a high mood either. Her head was spinning. When she came downstairs, Aunt Ning was setting out breakfast. When she saw her come down, she respectfully greeted her, "Good morning, Madam."

Ye Xinning nodded and sat down at the dining table.

Ye Xinning glanced around the living room but didn't see Shen Lin. She then looked away and sat there listlessly.

Aunt Ning noticed her gaze and whispered in her ear, "The master has gone to the company."

Ye Xinning nodded and said nothing more.

Aunt Ning moved her lips, but still asked one more question, "Did Madam and Master have a fight?"

Ye Xinning lowered her head and drank the porridge in front of her. "I don't know if this counts as an argument."

Her question only made Aunt Ning more confused. "I wonder if this counts as an argument?"

Ye Xinning smiled, not knowing how to explain her relationship with Shen Lin, so she simply decided not to elaborate further.

She ate a simple breakfast and said, "Aunt Ning, I'm going to work."

"Okay, will you be home for dinner tonight, madam? I'll prepare in advance."

Ye Xinning casually replied, "Let's talk about it tonight."

After leaving Ming Mansion, Ye Xinning went to the law firm. As soon as she entered, she heard Ye Xiaoxiao say that Xiao Chen had asked everyone to go to the conference room for a meeting.

She asked in confusion, "Is something serious happening?"

"I don't know." Ye Xiaoxiao shook her head. Xiao Chen didn't say why.
