Chapter 24 Making a Cake

Jenny: "Later, I went to the baking class she always attended. She taught me that you have to put your heart into everything you do. Food without heart has no soul. I have believed in her since then."

Thunder: "You're already Master Jenny, why don't you go out and go solo!"

Jenny: "I want to protect her. I know I'll stay here and protect her after she comes back injured."

Thunder: "Uh... what happened with the injury?"

Jenny: "You don't understand her at all. She was hurt by blind men in her country and came back heartbroken. I feel so sorry for her."

Thunder: "Huh? How did you know that? She told you."

Jenny: "I knew she was back without her saying anything. I came to her house to see her. She was so thin and weak, and she wasn't eating. All the sunshine in her eyes had disappeared. I knew she hadn't had a good time in China for the past two years. That man tormented her for two years. I wanted to get revenge on that man. It was Anning who cried and begged me not to do this. For her sake, I'm working here to protect her."

Thunder: "Ah! So if you saw that man, what would you do?"

Jenny: "We'll grind him into mincemeat, make delicious meat patties, and feed them to stray dogs."

Lei Ting craned his neck and swallowed hard, looking at the burly man in front of him with fear. He didn't seem like the type to lie.

Jenny: "You're lucky to have Anning's recommendation. If you knew even a fraction of her, you would fall hopelessly in love with her."

Thunder: "I don't have the same deep faith as you guys."

Jenny: "It's not just faith, but Anning's kindness and optimism that inspire us. I know she returned to China to become a housewife, and that blind man must have looked down on her because of that. But her abilities are undeniable. In just six months, she became the bread queen, a well-deserved title."

Thunder: "Anning, how did you get the title of Bread King?"

Jenny: "You don't know her at all. That's why she recommended you to me."

Lei Ting: "I borrowed money from their family to pay off my debts, and she told me to learn a trade."

Jenny: "Okay, look how kind she is."

Thunder: "She is very kind, but what happened in the six months after she came back?"

Jenny: "In the past six months, Anning has been depressed. We tried everything to cheer her up, but she was still not happy. Anyang found a hypnotist to help her forget her memories."

Thunder: "Is hypnosis really that powerful?"

Jenny: "Yes, the hypnotist said that Anning subconsciously avoids these things. She wants to forget these pains, so the effect is much better. During her last hypnosis session, she said, 'My child, I'm sorry, I didn't protect you well.'"

Thunder: "Didn't she call her husband from back home?"

Jenny: "I did shout it out. During the first hypnosis session, I mumbled a few words. The person's name was Thunder."

Thunder: "Ah! It seems to be called Thunder."

Thunder shuddered. Jenny gritted his teeth at the mention of Thunder. Thunder poured Jenny a glass of water, and the two leaned against the narrow oven. Jenny continued to tell him about what had happened in the six months since Anning returned.

Jenny: "That Thunder deserves to die. Fortunately, Anning has forgotten him. During Anning's second hypnosis session, she said, 'It's been two years and you haven't loved me even a little bit.' We were by her bedside listening to her painful nightmares, urging the hypnotist to make Anning forget him quickly."

Thunder: "The hypnosis lasted for several days..."

Jenny: "Three days. It took effect after Anning fell asleep on the third day. On the fourth day, Anning was indeed lively and energetic. However, she remembered me and remembered that I was Jenny."

Thunder: "Only... have you forgotten Thunder..."

Jenny: "It's so good that you forgot about him. Anning forgot about him and became the lively and lovely Anning again. She took me to the bakery, and I helped her extend the shelf life of her bread, allowing these delicious loaves to spread all over the world..."

Thunder: "It's very delicious, and it was made with care."

Jenny: "Of course, if Anning hadn't gone back to China and gone through all that pain, she would definitely be better than the Bread King now."

Thunder: "Why?"

Just as Jenny was about to point out Anning's superior qualities, the oven beeped. Jenny went to get the cake out, and upon seeing it, he fell silent.

Jenny: "The cake is baked. Bring me the whipped cream, and I'll teach you how to smooth it out and create patterns."

Thunder: "What kind of cake does Anning like?"

Jenny: "My God, is this cake for her?"

Jenny suddenly stopped what he was doing and looked at Thunder very seriously. Thunder paused and said.

Thunder: "I ate it myself, I was just asking out of curiosity."

Jenny: "Thank goodness, this cake is too rough for Anning to eat. Anning likes to decorate it with a strawberry, like this."

Looking at the small strawberry-decorated cake in front of him, Lei Ting thought of their second wedding anniversary cake, the one he had smashed. He realized how tiring it was for him to make such a small cake; how much effort An Ning must have put into making that one. Before he knew it, it was time to leave work. The clock on the wall chimed. Jenny finished tidying up the kitchen and said to Lei Ting...

Jenny: "I'm going home now, dear Ray, see you tomorrow."

Thunder: "Ah! Why is this so ambiguous?"

While Lei Ting was puzzled, he took the small cake and walked outside. Just then, An Yang drove back with An Ning. When Lei Ting saw An Ning, he was instantly energized and chased after her.

An Ning: "Is that Thunder?! Why is it chasing our car?!"

An Yang: "He's a lunatic, sis, just ignore him."

Anning: "No, he's quite pitiful. Let me out before you park the car!"
