Lei Ting opened the door and entered the room, seeing An Ning lying on the bed. An Ning's face was pale and weak, her eyes vacant, a stark contrast to the optimistic and cheerful An Ning of usual. Lei Ting recalled An Ning's happy smile, and seeing her now, a pang of guilt flashed through his mind. However, it was fleeting.
Lei Ting lay down next to An Ning, turned to his side, opened his phone and replied to Jasmine with a few words. When he looked at the time, it was almost 10 p.m. An Ning listened to Lei Ting typing. She didn't cry or make a fuss, but she had a few questions to ask.
Anning: "You and her, you never broke up, right?"
Thunder: "What?"
When Lei Ting heard An Ning speak, though weak, her voice was firm and resolute. Lei Ting turned to look at An Ning, who was staring at the ceiling. An Ning was very calm, asking him as if he were a stranger.
Anning: "Just curious, let me ask."
An Ning's tone became calm, which surprised Lei Ting. He had thought An Ning would give him the cold shoulder, ignore him, or even make a scene. He hadn't expected An Ning to just want to know when he and Jasmine started dating. Lei Ting thought about it carefully and decided to answer her question.
Lei Ting: "Jasmine is my first love. I met her just yesterday. I can't forget her."
Anning: "I know, yesterday was your first time cheating, right?"
Thunder: "It's...me..."
Anning: "And you went to see her today too, right?"
Lei Ting: "Jasmine has a stomach problem. She can't eat when her stomach hurts. I want her to come back after she finishes eating. I've arranged for the housekeeper to pick you up."
Anning: "You still need to prepare the divorce papers tomorrow."
When Anning mentioned divorce, Lei Ting felt a little flustered, and suddenly he wanted to cover it up.
Lei Ting: "An Ning, as long as you're willing, you can still be my legal wife, and we can still be husband and wife."
Anning: "I will move out tomorrow. From now on, our two families will have no further contact. My family will not do what your parents said about disrupting your family's business. Please cooperate with me in divorcing me."
An Ning spoke resolutely, and her words were somewhat threatening and left no room for argument. This was the demeanor of the eldest daughter of the An family. In the past two years, the Lei family's business had been booming. If anyone wanted to cause trouble, Lei Ting would have the backbone to fight back. So Lei Ting said without backing down.
Thunder: "I will give you more money as compensation. If you have any difficulties in the future, just let me know."
Anning didn't answer him, sighed, and felt the bleeding still flowing from her lower body. She went to the bathroom to change into her overnight pants. When she lay back down on the bed, Leiting was still saying goodnight to Jasmine. Anning lay on the bed and closed her eyes. Leiting went to the bathroom and saw so much blood on Anning's overnight pants. Leiting felt more panicked.
Lei Ting: "An Ning, how many months pregnant are you?"
An Ning didn't answer or pay any more attention to Lei Ting. Lei Ting tried to feel her pulse, but An Ning dodged his hand. Seeing this, Lei Ting stopped talking and closed his eyes to sleep.
Daylight broke, and Anning checked the time—it was seven o'clock. Her parents called to say they had landed and were on their way. Anning told them to wait for her at the gate of the house. She got up and dressed quickly, washing her face and changing. Today, she wore a French-style fishtail strapless dress and light makeup. This was the first time she had worn a strapless dress since returning to China. Normally, Anning's clothes were filled with cheongsams, Tang suits, and Hanfu; she had forgotten that she once had a sexy and sensual side. The strapless dress made her fair, pearly collarbones even more alluring. Anning forced a smile at herself in the mirror. She had to be strong now. When she came out of her room, Leiting was waiting for her in the courtyard. Leiting turned to look at her. "Anning looks so special, so attractive," Leiting couldn't help but say.
Lei Ting: "You're not fully recovered yet. We'll discuss the divorce when you're better."
Anning: "Let's get divorced today."
An Ning walked resolutely toward the door, and Lei Ting had no reason to object. They reached the door, and as expected, it was locked. Lei Ting continued.
Thunder: The door's locked, otherwise we'll go tomorrow.
Lei Ting looked back and saw An Ning already climbing the wall, wearing a fishtail skirt. She had reached the top and jumped, adjusting her skirt and hair as she did so. Lei Ting hadn't expected the usually dignified and reserved An Ning to jump over the wall; he had underestimated her determination to get a divorce.
Lei Ting, being tall, used his hands to hold onto the wall and leaped over it. An Ning opened the garage door, drove out the car, and Lei Ting sat in the passenger seat. The two drove towards the Civil Affairs Bureau. Married for two years, An Ning rarely went out. Usually, Lei Ting and Yu Li took her out. When they weren't free, a nanny would take care of her when shopping. Lei Ting was somewhat surprised by her familiarity with the streets today. The nanny, seeing Lei Ting and An Ning jump over the wall, shouted that something was wrong and quickly called Yu Li to warn her. Yu Li and her in-laws were already on their way. Knowing they had jumped over the wall, Yu Li thought it better to get to the Civil Affairs Bureau quickly; there was still a chance to stop them.
In front of the Civil Affairs Bureau, An Ning parked the car, gathered her documents—ID card, household registration book, and photos—and got out of the car. When they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau, Lei Ting felt a pang of regret. Although he knew that An Ning would never forgive him for what he had done, Lei Ting surprisingly didn't want to get out of the car once they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Anning had already gone inside, and the hem of her fishtail skirt had disappeared. Leiting was still in the car pretending to look for his ID card. Leiting wanted to use the excuse of losing his ID card to delay for a few days, but Jasmine called and Leiting answered.
Jasmine: "Thunder~"
Thunder: "Jasmine..."
Jasmine: "I found a photo of me from high school. I'll send it to you so you can see how much I've changed!"
