Chapter 35 Autumn Harvest Chronicle

Until Su Wangshi finished her dinner, the two men still hadn't returned, and she couldn't help but feel puzzled. Could something have happened in Yunshan Village?

When it was completely dark and Mrs. Su Wang was about to wash up and go to bed, the housekeeper came to report that the two people who went to Yunshan Village had returned. They did not bring back the eldest young master and the eldest young mistress, but they did bring back some local specialties. The two people also looked in a rather bad condition.

This aroused Su Wangshi's curiosity, and she quickly called the two of them in to answer.

As soon as they met, Su Wangshi was shocked: "You, you are encountering robbers?"

"Madam, I didn't run into any robbers. I was just tired from doing farm work."

It was the servant who answered, because the wet nurse was supported in by someone. At this moment, she was slumped on the ground, unable to straighten her back, and her shoulders were shaking unnaturally.

After swinging the sickle all afternoon, the nurse felt as if her arms had left home. She thought her movements while harvesting crops were like going into battle to kill the enemy, but the vicious little boy asked her if she was hungry. Her movements while cutting straw were like shooing away flies.

After hearing about what happened to the two in Yunshan Village, Mrs. Su Wang felt sympathetic. Han Zeyu was really a man who took advantage of others. He even spared no effort to take advantage of a fifty-year-old woman. He was truly vicious.

On second thought, he was short-sighted to force Su Shien to stay in the countryside just to let his younger brother pass the imperial examination. This behavior was like throwing away the watermelon to pick up sesame seeds.

Looking at the local specialties that Han Zeyu asked her wet nurse and her husband to bring back to her, Su Wangshi waved her hand tiredly and asked someone to take them away.

Those two chickens haven't even grown yet, why are they sent back? Is she supposed to keep them for fun? That bag of corn is pretty fresh, though. I'll make some tomorrow and share it with everyone. It's a token of the eldest young lady's kindness, after all.

The next morning, Su Yunzhu sat at the table and ate breakfast, praising the corn for being delicious. The sweet and sticky taste showed that it was just harvested this year.

The little maidservant covered her mouth and giggled, sharing the interesting things she had heard with the second young lady.

After listening to the maid's retelling, Su Yunzhu felt that the corn was even sweeter. Su Shien was really crazy. Instead of studying hard, he went to the impoverished Yue family to show his courtesy. He had already married the woman, so why bother with that much effort?

Aunt Chen also heard about these things and felt that Han Zeyu had some tricks up his sleeve. He was able to send a young man who had never done housework to work in the countryside, and the key was that the other party was willing to do it. It was indeed not easy.

After the wet nurse and the servant left, Su Shien stayed at home and studied obediently.

Han Zeyu got up early and went to the field to practice his earth-related abilities while it was still dark.

After some preliminary practice yesterday, he figured out a method. As we all know, hard and dry clods of earth can be used to build houses and walls. So he made the clods of earth thinner, like thick blades, and when he passed through the bottom of the straw, it would have the same effect as cutting it with a sickle!

Morning and evening are the best times to harvest rice. The temperature is relatively low and the rice has less water content, which is conducive to storage and drying.

Besides, people will feel comfortable during these two time periods and will not have to work under the scorching sun.

In previous years, the Han family would come to harvest the crops before breakfast and then go home for dinner, and this year was no exception.

At first, when they walked outside, they didn't notice anything unusual, but when they went inside, they saw the fallen crops and the man who was looking up to water the crops.

Han Cheng almost suffocated. He was so scared that he thought someone was destroying the crops!

When I got closer, I saw that the crops lying on the ground had just been cut, with their bottoms still in the ground.

"You did all this?"

Han Zeyu put down the jar of water and proudly put his hands on his hips. "I'm awesome, right? And you're saying I'm causing trouble."

Han Cheng gave a thumbs up and said, "You are awesome, you are very powerful. You have done the work of three people by yourself."

Han Zeyu did not get involved in the matter of bundling rice. He ran home to get the mule cart to pick up his father.

As soon as the laborers from other families went to the fields, they saw the father and son of the Lao Han family returning home with a fully loaded mule cart.

They all sighed: "How early did they have to get up? They must have come here before daybreak!"

"Almost. They went to the fields without me noticing. They work quite efficiently."

"Brother Yu is still working in the fields! I never saw him working in the fields in previous years. It seems that he has grown sensible after getting married and knows how to help share the burdens of the family."

"Not only did he go to the fields himself, he also brought his son-in-law back to help. Didn't two of them come over yesterday? They did a pretty good job."

They couldn't compare with this. They were just ordinary farmers and couldn't afford servants. But it would be great if they could buy a mule like the Han family did, or even a donkey!

"Hey~ Zecang is back? Your father and big brother just left, you can just go home directly."

"I know~ Thank you, Uncle Yang."

Looking at the boy's back as he ran away, several people became envious again. Look at other people's children, they always know to rush home when they are working and don't slack off at all.

Han Zecang got up early and rushed home without even having breakfast. When he returned home exhausted, he was greeted by his elder brother's bright smile.

"I knew you would come back today. Come and have dinner. I saved this especially for you."

Han Zecang was speechless. Facing the messy table, only his elder brother could say such words openly.

But he didn't mind. The leftovers at home were more varied than those at the academy, so what was he to be picky about? Just make as much as you want!

Zhao felt sorry for her son, so she scraped the bottom of the pot and made out half a bowl of mung bean porridge, which she handed to Han Zecang. Seeing him eat with relish, she went back to the kitchen to wash the dishes with satisfaction.

After dinner, Han Zecang went to the study to find his brother-in-law, and the two talked about the recent arrangements of the academy.

There were too many people around during the day, so Han Zeyu didn't go to the fields anymore and took a nap out of boredom.

When he woke up again, there was no one at home. His parents and second brother had gone to the fields, and the third and fourth brothers were feeding chickens in the yard. Su Shien was reading a book while fanning him from time to time to make him sleep more comfortably.

In fact, Han Zeyu is not afraid of heat, but he feels very good when someone cares about him. He turned 360 degrees inadvertently, put his arm around Su Shien's waist, and looked up to meet a pair of smiling eyes.

Han Zeyu blinked and suggested, "Are you tired? Why don't you take the books and go to the mountains? It's cool there."

Su Shien raised his eyebrows. "Going into the mountains?" He had never been to the mountains before!

The action-oriented girl got up, took out two backpacks, filled them with cushions and water bottles, and took her husband into the mountains to cool off.

A quarter of an hour later, Su Shien's palms were slightly damp with sweat as he realized the path Yu Ge'er was leading was getting increasingly remote. He had a bad feeling, and sure enough, when they reached halfway up the mountain, Han Zeyu stopped...
