Outside the Regent's Palace in the capital.
Emperor Zhao Shu of the Great Xia Dynasty led his civil and military officials to stand outside, requesting an audience with Regent Lin Mo. The scene was incredibly harmonious.
"Your Majesty, ministers, I have already stated that His Highness the Regent will not be receiving guests today!"
"This steward?" Zhao Shu stepped forward and smiled. "Please go and announce that I, the Emperor of Great Xia, request an audience!"
Upon hearing this, the ministers blushed to the roots of their ears, wishing they could disappear into a hole in the ground.
"You're the emperor, aren't you? Do you think you can be so humble and beg your ministers to see you?"
"Your Majesty, please don't say such things, it's truly embarrassing for me..." The steward of the Regent's Palace knelt on the ground and kowtowed repeatedly.
Anyone with eyes to see knows that Lin Mo is the true ruler of Great Xia. But Zhao Shu, who is standing before him, is the nominal emperor of Great Xia. How is he, the steward, supposed to be humbled and begging him in front of the entire court?
It wasn't that he didn't want the Emperor of Great Xia and his ministers to go in, but Lin Mo had given a strict order: no one would be seen today, and anyone who disobeyed would be executed!
Because he was the Emperor of the Great Xia Dynasty, he also went in to ask for instructions.
You won't know until you go, and you'll be shocked when you do.
Regent Lin Mo is fast asleep at home and cannot be woken up no matter how hard you try.
Chief strategist Yao Guangxiao was right beside Lin Mo, trying every possible method, almost resorting to violence, but he just couldn't wake him up.
If the Emperor of Great Xia and his ministers found out, would things calm down?
That's so disrespectful!
"What exactly happened to Your Highness? Explain yourself! Why won't you see any guests?" the minister surnamed Zhang couldn't help but rebuke. "Is he sleeping soundly at home?"
Lord Zhang had heard a little about the regent's habit of going to sleep at the drop of a hat.
Back when the Empress was still alive, Lin Mo openly slept in the imperial court.
"No, no!" the butler quickly explained, "He's ill, His Highness the Regent...he's ill!"
“Yes, yes, yes! He’s sick!” another guard chimed in.
"Ill? What's wrong?" Zhao Shu asked in surprise. "Has he seen a doctor? Should I arrange for an imperial physician to examine him?"
At this point, Zhao Shu quickly turned his head and said, "Imperial Physician, quickly summon the Imperial Physician to treat His Highness the Regent!"
"Ah..." the butler exclaimed anxiously, "No, no need!"
"No need?" Zhao Shu exclaimed anxiously, "You're sick and you're not going to see a doctor?"
"this..."
"What, you think the imperial physicians in the palace aren't good enough?"
"No, it's not that!" The steward was too anxious to speak. "It's...it's...ah, Lord Yao, you've arrived?"
Upon seeing Yao Guangxiao emerge, the steward grasped his hand tightly as if he had found a lifeline, exclaiming, "Lord Yao, His Majesty, along with the entire court, requests an audience!"
Yao Guangxiao shook his hand, then bowed. "Your humble servant Yao Guangxiao wishes Your Majesty ten thousand years of good fortune and peace!"
"No need, no need! Tell me quickly, how is the Regent's health?"
"This..." The pressure fell on Yao Guangxiao! "His Highness... he's ill!"
"He really is sick!" Zhao Shu couldn't help but worry about Lin Mo. "Is it serious?"
"It's not too serious, but you can't be exposed to light or drafts; you have to stay indoors!" Yao Guangxiao said. "It's best if you don't have too many people disturbing you! Otherwise, it might get worse!"
"Is it that serious?" Zhao Shu frowned. "We can't have too many people disturbing us. How about I go in alone? The other ministers can wait outside!"
"Ah...no!" Yao Guangxiao hesitated, "That's against the rules. Let's wait until His Highness is feeling better before he goes to the palace to pay his respects to His Majesty!"
“Not at all, rules are made by people!” Zhao Shu insisted. “Today, I have made an exception just for Minister Lin!”
Zhao Shu had already made up his mind that His Majesty would apologize today.
After saying that, he strode forward and entered the palace.
What could Yao Guangxiao do? He was the Emperor of the Great Xia Dynasty; could he really stop him?
Other ministers wanted to follow, but Yao Guangxiao ordered them to be blocked outside the door.
The Great Xia Emperor cannot be stopped, but these nobodies and crooks can be.
Even if Zhao Shu finds Lin Mo fast asleep later, there will still be a chance to salvage the situation, since this gluttonous emperor is particularly easy to manipulate.
If all the ministers see it, then things will get very serious!
So Zhao Shu left all the ministers behind and went inside alone.
Upon arriving at Lin Mo's room, Zhao Shu pushed open the door and went inside.
Lin Mo, the regent of the Great Xia Dynasty, was lying on the bed with his eyes closed.
"Minister Yao, is the Regent... is he really ill?"
"Your Majesty!" Yao Guangxiao knelt down with a thud. "The Prince... has always suffered from this strange illness. Once it flares up, he falls into a deep sleep and never wakes up. No matter how we call him, he can't get up!"
In all honesty, this is the truth from the bottom of my heart.
but...
This made it difficult for Zhao Shu to adapt for a while.
"Really?" He was skeptical.
Zhao Shu believed that Lin Mo was much more polite to him than people like Huo Minggao, and that he had shown the proper etiquette between a ruler and his subject.
It's not like they'd hide at home and sleep all day, refusing to get out of their bedroom.
But then there was that constant snoring...
But it also sent chills down Zhao Shu's spine!
"Is there really such a strange disease in the world?" Zhao Shu didn't believe it, so he stepped forward and said, "Minister Lin, wake up quickly, it's me, I've come to see you!"
Lin Mo continued snoring, showing no reaction whatsoever.
“This…” Zhao Shu frowned.
"Your Majesty, I would never lie to you!" Yao Guangxiao sighed. "Don't believe me? Look!"
The bald man stepped forward and pinched Lin Mo's arm hard.
