Looking around, the place appeared desolate and lonely, as if it had been abandoned.
It is gray, the same color as the ashes in the Endless City, and from its highest point you can look out into the distance, surrounded by a curtain wall.
In order not to alert the enemy, Lin Mo and the others decided to wait until nightfall to make their move.
Eventually, they waited in the woods outside the city, hiding under a shelter made of tree branches.
The sky began to rain, making Lin Mo's mood as bad as the gloomy rain.
As dusk fell, Lin Mo heard noises coming from inside the walled compound.
The hammering sound was faint but steady, like striking steel.
“A forge,” the guide said, “a blacksmith who forges instruments of torture, to deal with those prisoners!”
Time passed very slowly; by the time night fell, Lin Mo felt as if a century had passed.
The rain had turned the road into a muddy mess, making it even more uncomfortable for Lin Mo to walk.
Under the cover of night, the guide led Lin Mo and the others over the low wall on the west side, through a hidden courtyard, around a corner, over the wall, squeezed through a low, narrow window, and into a pitch-black cellar where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
"Go in, the secret passage is right here!" the guide said.
Without any hesitation, Lin Mo was the first to crawl into the cellar.
He had a premonition that Sun Ruoxi was here, waiting for his arrival.
At first, the surroundings were shrouded in thick darkness, as if swallowed by the boundless night. However, as time passed, Lin Mo's eyes gradually adjusted to the gloom, and a faint light seemed to emerge from the depths of the cellar, like stars quietly lighting up in the dark night.
In the hazy light and shadow, countless huge, empty eyes, like the eyes of wolves in a dark forest, gleamed with hunger and greed, staring intently at him. Their gaze was both cold and fiery, as if they wanted to devour him alive.
Lin Mo narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to find the owner of those eyes in the darkness. He could vaguely see that below those eyes were jagged shadows, like the fangs of a wild beast, appearing and disappearing in the darkness.
“This place…” A strange unease welled up in Lin Mo’s heart. He murmured softly, “Why does this place feel so familiar to me?”
He stopped and carefully observed his surroundings.
Skulls were everywhere. Lin Mo curiously touched one of them, wondering if it was real or not.
His fingertips brushed against a broad chin, and it felt quite real.
The bones felt smooth, cold, and hard.
His finger touched a tooth, black and sharp, like a dagger forged from darkness.
"This...how come it looks so much like...where does it look like again?" Lin Mo frowned.
Just then, Iria's voice came from behind, "Slow down!" she said, somewhat angrily, "This place is a maze, if you're not careful you'll be stuck here forever!"
Soon, the guide and Lei Zhen also caught up.
"This place is absolutely terrifying!" Iria exclaimed. "Especially for a beautiful girl like me, it's a disaster!"
She looked around while making sarcastic remarks.
She could feel its empty eyes looking at her through the darkness; in this dimly lit, spacious, and tall room, there was something that disliked her.
"Hey Lin Mo, a beautiful girl like me coming to this godforsaken place with you costs extra!"
"Mm!" Lin Mo replied simply.
"Let me lead the way!" The guide stepped to the front.
Before long, they arrived at the deepest part of the cellar.
If what we just experienced could be considered darkness, then this place is the darkest, most impenetrable black hole in hell.
Still as water, Iria murmured to herself, trying to adjust her eyes to the extreme darkness, but apart from the door she had just entered through, she could only catch a faint gray outline.
All around, it seemed as if the thick night was tightly enveloping everything, and even the air felt heavy and oppressive.
She gently extended her finger and waved it slightly in front of her. Although she could feel the air moving, her fingertip couldn't touch anything substantial. This feeling of emptiness sent a chill down her spine, as if she were on a deserted island, surrounded by endless darkness and loneliness.
“I said, is this really a secret passage?” she couldn’t help but question.
“Absolutely true!” the guide replied. “Just follow!”
Iria took a deep breath, trying to calm her unease.
She closed her eyes, letting her breathing gradually become steady, and then she began to count silently, one, two, three...
When she opened her eyes again, she reached out and her fingertips gently touched the rough stone wall. It was unpolished stone, with a primitive ruggedness and weight.
She walked along the wall, her hands tracing the stone surface, taking small, quick steps as she slowly traversed the darkness.
It felt like she had walked for a long time when the wall suddenly came to an end, and a blast of cold air blew across her cheek.
"We've arrived! It's just ahead!" the guide announced.
Lin Mo strode forward and looked closely; the source of the light was an ancient prison cell!
"You all stay here, I'll go rescue them alone!" he said.
"Hey, hey, hey, are you kidding me?" Iria said. "You think you can handle the guards by yourself? Leave this to me, the professional prison break expert!"
"No!" Lin Mo refused decisively. "This place is very unusual!"
He smelled a scent that didn't belong to this world.
Lin Mo will never forget this taste in his life.
That's the aura of those guys from the far north!
Although Lin Mo didn't understand why there was a divine aura in this place.
But his intuition told him that things were not so simple!
“Little girl, I suggest you stay here!” the guide said.
"What? Could it be that there are ghosts ahead?" Iria retorted.
"Stop talking nonsense, stay here if you want to live!" After saying that, Lin Mo took a deep breath and strode towards the light source.
For some reason, even the fearless Iria was intimidated by the aura ahead and chose to stay.
To Lin Mo's surprise, what awaited him ahead was an old acquaintance...
The man leaned against the damp dungeon wall, his eyes closed, with a giant sword standing beside him.
"You've arrived?" the man asked, looking up. "Much earlier than I expected!"
"It's you..." Lin Mo looked at the person in surprise, "Pu Hang? Weren't you already dead? By me..."
"You destroyed his physical body and devoured his soul, didn't you?" Pu Hang asked with a smile. "Heh, without some other qualities, how could you become the head of the servants of the gods?"
I'm not afraid to tell you, what you took away back then was only a part of my soul.
The ability my master bestowed upon me is the ability to fragment my soul.
As long as even a wisp of my soul remains, Master can completely repair my soul and reshape my physical body!
Upon hearing this, Lin Mo couldn't help but take a deep breath. "Then what do you want to do?"
"Let's settle things once and for all!"
