Chapter 148 Past Events, Part Two: Corpse and Adopted Son

Long ago? The Realm of Mountains and Seas? The End of the East Sea

The vast East China Sea stretches to the horizon, where the sea and sky meet.

At the edge of the East China Sea, there is a solitary island, named Fusang Island because of a towering Fusang tree that reaches to the heavens.

The trunk is thick and strong, with intertwined roots that regenerate into new trees. A single hibiscus tree alone occupies the entire isolated island.

Beyond the Southeast Sea, between the Gan River, lies a country called Xihe Kingdom.

Within it was a woman named Xihe, who bathed in Ganyuan, following the guidance of Heaven, and married Emperor Jun. After that, she gave birth to ten suns.

This creature takes the form of a beast, with three legs and a golden body, and is also known as the Three-Legged Golden Crow.

The golden crows flew between mountains and seas, and happened to encounter the Fusang Divine Tree, where they stopped to rest. Later, all ten golden crows settled there.

Xihe is the "Mother of the Sun" and also the "River Charioteer of the Sun".

Every day, Xihe drives a chariot carrying the Golden Crow from the East Sea, passing through Qu'a Mountain, Kunwu Mountain, Niaoci Mountain, Lianshi Mountain, Beiquan, Yuyuan, and other places, before finally landing at the Ruomu Divine Tree.

Ten golden crows take turns on duty, rising and setting in an orderly fashion.

However, the golden crow was playful and could not fly freely on days without duty. After a while, it grew tired of it and rose into the sky with the others ten days later.

The grass and trees withered, the earth cracked, and the human world became a living hell. Disaster beasts such as the Yayu, Zaochi, Jiuying, Fengxi, and Xiushe took the opportunity to wreak havoc.

Bai Hao hid Qin Nan in a mountain cave. He knew Qin Nan was kind-hearted and knew the suffering of the world. He knew that Qin Nan would be heartbroken but he was powerless to help, so he did not take him away from the mountains.

Someone will appear to solve the problem, so there's no need to rush. Everything has its own destiny, so just go with the flow.

The human tribes suffered greatly from the scorching heat of the ten suns. One of them, named Yao, chose a wise and brave man named Hou Yi and sent him to kill the rebellious beasts and end the calamity of the ten suns.

Hou Yi killed Zaochi in the southern marshland and wilderness, and then killed Jiuying in the northern swamp.

Later, they went to Qingqiu, the Great Lake in the East, and after many dangers, they obtained the divine bow and arrows.

Continuing eastward, we reached the precipice of the East Sea, where we could see ten golden crows circling around the Fusang Divine Tree.

He was the tribe's archer, able to draw his bow and shoot arrows in one smooth motion, killing nine golden crows with nine arrows, leaving only one alive. Hou Yi did not shoot the last arrow.

But because of Hou Yi's actions, the surviving golden crows were terrified and promised to rise in the east and set in the west peacefully, never disturbing the human world.

After the calamity of the ten suns was resolved, Hou Yi continued to pursue and kill the Yayu, and cut down the Xiushui snake in Dongting Lake. Finally, he captured Fengxi in the mulberry forest in the Central Plains.

After ridding the wreaking havoc beast and relieving the suffering of ten days, Hou Yi was revered as a hero by the tribe.

After sleeping through the night, Qin Nan stretched out his body and tried to touch the sunlit area with his animal paw. It was warm but not scorching.

Qin Nan poked out his black beast head, his pupils narrow, and looked up at the sky. There was only one sun today.

Bai Hao, carrying the prey he had hunted, leaped and appeared in front of Qin Nan.

Qin Nan had been eating vegetarian food for a long time, and his stomach was empty. He was fed by Bai Hao from behind. It was rare for him to have meat, so he happily let out two loud yelps.

Bai Hao placed the prey in front of Qin Nan and told him to eat first. Qin Nan buried his head in the food without any hesitation.

After eating, Bai Haoning washed his fur with water. The sun was warm, so Qin Nan shook off the water and found a rock to lie on and sunbathe.

Seeing Qin Nan comfortably lying on her back sunbathing, Bai Hao lowered his head to eat the rest of the food.

After eating Bai Hao and washing its fur, it didn't need to shake off the water; it was dried directly with magic and then easily jumped to Qin Nan's side and lay down lazily.

He also likes to sunbathe; it makes his fur feel very comfortable, and as long as Qin Nan is around, he's happy to do anything.

Qin Nan basked in the sun comfortably and fell asleep again. Bai Hao stretched out his paw, pulled Qin Nan into his arms, and licked his fur. At the same time, he was thinking about the matter of Hou Yi.

When the Eastern Sea reached its end, Xihe was furious, but Emperor Jun intervened to stop her.

Xihe entered the sea and collected the corpses of nine golden crows, placing them under the Fusang tree.

Many years have passed since then.

The Fusang Divine Tree split its roots and branches, and many of these branches gathered their consciousness, separated from their original bodies, took on human forms, crossed the East Sea, and entered the Eastern Wilderness Mountains.

————

Long after this, in the Mountain and Sea Realm, in the Eastern Wilderness Mountains...

Sang Wusheng, holding Qin Nan who was still an infant, neither awake nor grown up, sat down to rest on a boulder halfway up the mountain.

Su Kun was venturing into the mountains, searching everywhere for magical fruits. He had been searching for a long time in the Eastern Wilderness for some Ganoderma lucidum fruit.

Before coming, Sang Wusheng believed Su Kun's confident claim that he could solve Zai Zai's problem and came to the Eastern Wilderness with him.

When they arrived in the Eastern Wilderness, they not only had no idea where the Immortal Fruit was, but they also kept getting lost.

Sang Wusheng couldn't bear to watch any longer, so he summoned a bluebird to bring him a branch of the Migu tree to guide the way.

We had a direction but no location, so we could only search one by one among the mountains in the eastern wilderness.

The golden crow in the sky was already heading west, but Su Kun was still nowhere to be seen.

Sang Wusheng smiled and looked down at the baby in her arms to calm the raging anger in her heart. If it weren't for the baby, she would have slapped that unreliable man to death!

She shouldn't have believed he could have any solutions!

"Found it!"

Suddenly, a cry of surprise came from the forest. Not long after, Su Kun, covered in dust and looking disheveled, was seen carrying a few Ganoderma lucidum fruits.

Sang Wusheng: "Just these few?"

Su Kun: "Of course not. We still need to go to the summit of Nanshan, the southeast mountain, and the west mountain to find other immortal fruits."

Sang Wusheng was stunned: "Not just Ganoderma lucidum fruit is enough?"

Su Kun: "No..."

Sang Wusheng: "Do you have room for the other immortal fruits?"

Su Kun: "No, you can look for it!"

Sang Wusheng: "Get lost! I'm taking the cub back to my cave. Find the rest yourself, and come back for the cub when you've found them!"

Su Kun watched with great grievance as Sang Wusheng accepted the Lingzhi fruit, then flew away into the sky without a second thought, carrying his baby.

Su Kun knew that the cave she was referring to was not on Zhonghuang Mountain, but rather a cave they had built to raise their cubs.
