Passing through the village, a quiet path winds between two mountains, with tall trees, lush flowers and grasses, a clear blue sky, green earth, and a gentle breeze, making it very pleasant.
Because there was plenty of shade, Qin Nan didn't feel hot even though the sun was shining brightly. She left her coat at Bai Xin's house but wasn't in a hurry to get it.
Bai Hao led Qin Nan slowly along. With the sand crabapple, they could save a lot of time, so there was really no need to rush.
The two walked to the mouth of the valley and saw a stone tablet in the distance, with a person standing in front of it.
As they approached, Qin Nan was stunned. The person waiting for them was so well covered up! Hat, headband, face shield, long sleeves and trousers, with white bandages wrapped around their exposed hands and neck, leaving only their eyes visible.
Bai Hao was also somewhat surprised: "Last time I saw you, I could still see your fingers. Now you're going to mutate into a mummy?"
Bai Jue said coldly, "Don't mention it, I'm starting to want to wash my hands."
Bai Hao's heart stirred slightly, and he pursed his lips to suppress a smile.
Bai Jue's forehead veins throbbed slightly; he didn't want to speak.
Qin Nan looked at him curiously. This Bai Ze was very similar to the one Qiong Ruiheng had mentioned to him before. It was a Bai Ze with severe mysophobia who would never touch anything with his own hands. Qiong Ruiheng had been taken care of by him for a period of time. During that time, Qiong Ruiheng's entire beast was soft and fragrant, without a single hair of dirt.
Bai Jue: "Hello, my name is Bai Jue, Yu Yangjue."
Qin Nan: "Qin Nan, the 'Nan' in 'nan tree'."
It was clear that Bai Jue wouldn't be the one to shake hands, so Qin Nan nodded in acknowledgment.
Bai Hao: "What, looking for me?"
Bai Jue: "No."
Bai Hao: "Looking for him?"
Bai Jue: "Hmm, move aside, don't listen."
Bai Hao: "...Are you speaking human language?"
Bai Jue: "Want to hear animal language?"
Bai Hao shut up, released Qin Nan, and headed into the valley. After walking a distance, he turned back and saw that Bai Jue was already talking to Qin Nan. Moreover, Bai Jue had set up a barrier, so he couldn't hear anything.
After a long while, Bai Jue, having finished his conversation, left first without even saying goodbye to Bai Hao. Qin Nan thoughtfully saw Bai Jue off, then turned around and saw Bai Hao's unusually pale face. She couldn't help but smile and quickly stepped forward, taking Bai Hao's hand. Seeing that he still had a troubled expression, Qin Nan leaned over and gently kissed the corner of Bai Hao's mouth.
Bai Hao's eyes flickered, instantly turning from gloomy to sunny. He raised his hand, grabbed Qin Nan's nape, and kissed her deeply. If he hadn't sensed someone approaching, he would have loved to continue.
Qin Nan was released by Bai Hao and saw a person walking out from the direction of the valley.
"Hey, Xiao Hao's back. Is this your partner?"
The newcomer was a middle-aged man who looked to be in his thirties or forties, with a refined and scholarly demeanor. He wore a light blue long robe, and his long hair was tied up with a jade hairpin, making him look like a scholar who had stepped out of an ancient book.
Bai Hao: "Grandpa Baihua, this is my partner, Qin Nan."
Bai Hua: "Oh, Xiao Nan, you're back to see the clan leader, right? Go quickly. I saw him over in the forbidden area when we came; he must be waiting for you."
Bai Hao: "Okay."
Qin Nan nodded, greeted Bai Hua, and said goodbye before quickly following Bai Hao into the valley.
The valley is also flat grassland with only one towering tree and a lake. The architectural style here is very uniform, with one or two-story bamboo houses that look like they are handmade.
Several middle-aged men were sitting by the lake, fishing quietly. The two men did not disturb them and went straight to the entrance to the forbidden area that Bai Hua had mentioned.
Qin Nan was still somewhat surprised. He thought that the grandfather Bai Hao mentioned would be an old man with white hair and beard, but it turned out that he wasn't.
At the entrance to a cave on the edge of the valley, the words "Forbidden Land" were casually carved on a large rock. This meant nothing to the beasts of the Bai Ze clan. They knew what was inside, but they couldn't go in. However, none of the beasts were interested in going in.
Standing next to the stone was a man in a white Tang suit, with short, choppy hair and a tall, upright figure. When he turned around, Qin Nan could see that he looked to be in his thirties or forties, with a gentle and refined demeanor, and a handsome and easygoing appearance.
Bai Qing: "Hehe, Xiao Hao is here. This must be Nan Nan. Hello, little friend."
Bai Qing greeted the two of them with a smile as they approached.
Qin Nan quickly greeted her, "Hello."
Bai Hao asked in confusion, "Master, why are you waiting here?"
Bai Qing: "Oh, it's about what I told you. It's related to this place. No rush, let's go inside and talk."
Bai Qing beckoned the two into the cave, and Bai Hao followed closely behind, holding Qin Nan's hand.
The cave was initially dark, but spacious enough that it soon became bright. There were searchlights on the walls, which were very bright. Qin Nan had never expected that a primitive cave would have such advanced lighting equipment.
Following the wide passage, they eventually entered a large stone chamber. The walls, ceiling, and floor of the entire chamber were covered with blood-red magic circles, a sight that made Qin Nan feel uneasy.
Bai Hao didn't react. He knew this was how it was, but there was nothing strange about it. These formations had long since become ineffective. What was more important than the formations was what had been imprisoned or placed here in the past, but that was unknown. The Bai Ze clan didn't know what had been inside, which was why they had designated this place as a "forbidden area."
Bai Hao: "Master, what did you find here?"
Bai Qing: "Hmm, I've made a little progress. I caught a glimpse of a blurry image in this place. The blurry image is of a huge, bloody thing that was once placed here. I still don't understand the function of these formations, and I can't see what that bloody thing is."
Bai Hao: "Then what does this have to do with me?"
Bai Qing chuckled: "There really is."
Bai Qing took out a black silk handkerchief from her pocket, opened it in her palm, and found three hairs inside: one white, one gold, and the black one was barely visible because it was intertwined with the other two.
