Chapter 17 The Real Customer

For lunch, Qin Nan cut chicken breast into pieces and marinated it. She also prepared diced potatoes to make chicken stew with potatoes, and prepared pork ribs to make winter melon and pork rib soup. There were also braised shrimp, stir-fried lettuce, garlic sprouts with eggs, and glutinous rice and lotus seed soup. The main dish was the osmanthus flower rolls that Qin Nan had steamed in the morning.

Bai Hao smelled the delicious aroma wafting from the kitchen. He wasn't actually that greedy, unlike Totoro who eats everything and can't get enough. But he just thought the food Qin Nan made was especially delicious.

Qin Nan's cooking was very ordinary and not particularly delicious, but once you ate it, you couldn't stop thinking about it. He had eaten at Yang Zizhong's villa before, but he didn't eat much and felt it was tasteless.

He was puzzled. As a divine beast, he had an extremely keen sense of smell. Qin Nan's cooking must not have any special ingredients; it was all very ordinary cooking methods.

Bai Hao shook his head. He would eventually find out the reason for everything; it was just not the right time yet.

After finishing the meal, Qin Nan cleaned up the dishes and then put the frozen pork jerky into the oven. Considering Bai Hao and Long Mao's appetites, Qin Nan made a lot.

The little chinchilla has gotten even fatter. Now it's a huge lump when it sits, with its flesh completely covering its little paws with room to spare. Qin Nan is considering giving the chinchilla a diet by reducing its food intake.

But if he didn't give it food, the Totoro would stare at him intently, its two paws resting on its belly, looking extremely aggrieved. Qin Nan felt heartbroken seeing this and couldn't bring himself to withhold food.

Bai Hao reassured Qin Nan that the chinchilla would eat without worry and nothing would happen, leaving Qin Nan with no choice but to resume feeding it normally.

The result of feeding them normally is that, besides getting them fat, the chinchillas also got a new little house because the old one couldn't fit them anymore, and it was even custom-made.

The shop owner repeatedly checked the weight and dimensions, expressing his amazement that a chinchilla could be fed to 30 or 40 pounds, which was practically like raising a pig. He even suggested that Qin Nan take it to the vet to check on it, lest it become too fat and die!

The aroma of roasted meat filled the yard. Totoro, unable to move, sat on the table, drooling as he gazed at the kitchen. Bai Hao leaned against the kitchen door, waiting for Qin Nan to cut the large slices of pork jerky into smaller pieces.

Previously, Bai Hao would always start eating before Qin Nan finished cutting things or before she was ready, and then he would be kicked out of the kitchen, so now he could only wait at the door.

Qin Nan handed a plate to Bai Hao, who picked it up and started eating. He paused for a moment while eating.

Bai Hao: "The guests have arrived!"

Qin Nan was stunned for a moment. Bai Hao had already taken the plate to the front yard. Qin Nan looked at the cutting board, quickly cut out the pork jerky, and then set it to cool. By the time Qin Nan left a small plate of pork jerky for Long Mao and went out to the front yard, Bai Hao had already invited people into the front hall.

Qin Nan looked at the two guests in the front hall with great surprise. One of them was wearing an elegant long dress with a shawl, a few pieces of jewelry, and her long hair was tied up. She looked graceful and noble, and was obviously a rich woman.

Qin Nan knows this woman; there are photos of her online. She is Yang Zizhong's current wife—Chen Qizhu!

Chen Qizhu glanced at Qin Nan, who had entered somewhat abruptly through the side door, smiled slightly, looked him over, and then turned to look at Bai Hao.

Qin Nan immediately went to make tea; he couldn't bear the woman's gaze.

"Boss Bai, I've brought the goods over. I've already had my secretary transfer the final payment to you. Please remember to check your account."

Chen Qizhu gracefully took out a small brocade box from her handbag and had the woman in professional attire beside her give it to Bai Hao.

"Yes, thank you for making this special trip, Ms. Chen." Bai Hao took the brocade box and casually placed it on the table, continuing to eat his pork jerky.

Chen Qizhu: "Boss Bai, aren't you going to ask me why?"

Bai Hao: "Love and hate both have their causes and effects; today's consequences are nothing but the causes of yesterday."

Chen Qizhu chuckled upon hearing this, her eyes brimming with charm. How could Yang Zizhong be interested in someone else when a woman of her age possessed such allure? Qin Nan was already filled with a million questions.

Furthermore, he didn't understand what Chen Qizhu meant by her question, nor did he understand what Bai Hao's answer was. After the tea was served, he stood silently next to Bai Hao.

"When I came in, I noticed that the grape trellis was very well maintained; it was clear that a lot of care had been taken. May I sit there for a while?" Chen Qizhu asked Bai Hao, but she was looking at Qin Nan.

Bai Hao also turned to look at Qin Nan, who was taken aback and stared at the two of them.

Qin Nan: "Yes, that's fine."

Chen Qizhu: "Thank you."

Qin Nan felt it was getting a bit chilly and she couldn't stand sitting on the stone bench, so she thoughtfully brought a cushion for Chen Qizhu, while her secretary waited in the car outside.

Qin Nan brought over some pork jerky, unsure if Chen Qizhu would eat it, but Bai Hao ate it so arrogantly that Qin Nan felt obliged to take some as well.

Chen Qizhu was slightly surprised. She took a piece and tasted it. She had only meant it as a polite gesture, but she didn't expect it to taste so good, and it tasted like it had just been baked.

Chen Qizhu: "Did you make this? It's delicious."

Qin Nan didn't expect Chen Qizhu to make a comment. He just wanted to be polite and then go back. Chen Qizhu clearly wanted to be alone. If he had known, he would have just brought a cushion.

Qin Nan: "Thank you, eat more if it's delicious."

Chen Qizhu smiled as she watched Qin Nan scratch his head somewhat embarrassedly. This person was very gentle, considerate, and seemed to love life.

Koi carp are fed in the pond next to the corridor, and potted plants are placed around the pond. Everything is well taken care of. The flowers and plants in the yard have been trimmed, which shows that they are carefully looked after every day.

Sitting under the grapevines, watching the fish swim in the water, smelling the fragrance of flowers and grass, and seeing the sunlight dappling the bottom, such a scene is truly comforting.

"Can I talk to you?" For some reason, Qin Nan gave people a special feeling. Unlike Bai Hao's coldness and mystery, he had a homely feeling, like the sun. When he was around, people felt that home was warm, not an empty mansion.
