"Hello, are you all holding a funeral or is your house haunted?" Qin Nan asked with a smile, her tone flat and devoid of any emotion, but her words were infuriating.
"Pah! What nonsense are you spouting?" one of the burly men said angrily. Qin Nan was already 180cm tall, but this guy was at least 185cm and clearly worked out regularly.
"We don't hold funerals or haunt our place, so what are you all doing here at our funeral home?" Qin Nan replied innocently.
Funeral home!
Upon hearing this, the boy choked for a moment, and the others involuntarily took a step back, their faces showing some embarrassment.
Qin Nan realized that he must have overheard their discussion, but it was their own misunderstanding. They really hadn't expected there to be a funeral parlor in a tourist area; they thought it was a unique hotel.
"Sorry, we made a mistake, sorry for disturbing you!" The slightly chubby boy stepped forward with a smile to smooth things over and gestured for them to leave.
Qin Nan watched the group leave, his face slightly darkening. How dare they call his place a shabby hotel! And not even a proper place! Ha! He may have a good temper, but that doesn't mean he has none!
Qin Nan strolled back to the backyard. He had previously considered installing a doorbell, but Bai Hao said it wasn't necessary. He hadn't understood why until now. Bai Hao was more accurate than a doorbell.
As soon as Qin Nan entered the backyard, the Totoro lay motionless in the sand bath. Qin Nan smiled, picked up the Totoro, put the sand bath away, put the Totoro back, went to the kitchen to wash her hands, and started making peanut brittle and melon seed brittle.
The snacks they had made earlier were all gone, and Bai Hao had started eating walnuts raw. So Qin Nan had to start making more, since he wanted to save the walnuts to make porridge and candy. At Bai Hao's eating speed, there wouldn't be any walnuts left.
Just as Qin Nan finished roasting the melon seeds, Bai Hao suddenly appeared in the kitchen and clung to Qin Nan.
Qin Nan had a bit of a headache. Ever since watching the TV series, whenever there was food featured in it, Bai Hao would come over and tell him what to cook. If he knew how to cook it, he would cook it; if he didn't, he would look up the recipe. Now he was coming over again, and Qin Nan wondered what Bai Hao had seen.
Bai Hao: "I want to eat crab!"
"Crabs? I was just thinking of making some. I'll go to the supermarket later and see what kind of crabs you'd like to eat." Qin Nan thought for a moment when she heard this, since it was the perfect time to eat crabs.
Qin Nan had considered it before, but since they hadn't finished the food at home, she thought she would buy more after they finished eating. But now Bai Hao said that it was fine to buy it today.
Bai Hao: "Either is fine."
Seeing that Qin Nan agreed, Bai Hao happily returned to the living room to continue watching TV.
Qin Nan shook his head helplessly. If he wanted to make crabs, there wouldn't be time to make peanut brittle. He could only make sunflower seed brittle first.
After Qin Nan finished making the melon seed pastries and fed them to Bai Hao and the Totoro, she was about to go out to buy crabs when Bai Hao, who was on the sofa, suddenly spoke up.
Bai Hao: "They're coming back."
Qin Nan was stunned for a moment. Bai Hao must have been referring to those five people, but why would they come back after she told them to leave? Could it be that they encountered ghosts during the day? That's impossible!
Qin Nan went out, puzzled, and went to the supermarket. There were more people in the supermarket than usual, including many outsiders. Tomorrow is National Day, and Qin Nan could imagine the crowds on the streets tomorrow.
He thought about Bai Hao, who was practically growing mushrooms at home, and thought, "No way, when things get lively, I'll definitely drag Bai Hao out for a stroll!"
Qin Nan got home around 5 p.m. and quickly started preparing the crabs. She had bought several hairy crabs and some blue crabs, planning to make yellow wine crab, spicy hairy crab, stir-fried blue crab with garlic and ginger, and yellow wine braised chicken. Since crabs are considered "cold" in traditional Chinese medicine, the ginger, garlic, and yellow wine would neutralize it. She also planned to cook some rice.
Busy until dark and the lights were turned on, the aroma of crabs filled the whole house. Bai Hao, unusually, did not watch TV, but instead stood guard at the kitchen door.
Totoro also stared longingly at the kitchen. Ever since he came into this world, ever since he met Qin Nan, ever since he was fed, he only had three things to do every day: eat, play, and sleep!
Qin Nan also found it particularly delicious. As each dish was prepared, Bai Hao, with great insight, stepped in to help. Once all the dishes were served, Qin Nan washed her hands and sat down. Bai Hao and Long Mao began to eat without any hesitation.
The pet and the person have gotten used to each other. Since it doesn't contribute any labor, it always waits for Qin Nan to sit down before it starts eating.
Qin Nan didn't eat many crabs because it was too much trouble, but Bai Hao and Long Mao were different. The two of them peeled the crabs very quickly and didn't waste a single piece of meat. Qin Nan couldn't compare and ate more roast chicken instead.
Qin Nan had just finished eating and put down her chopsticks when Bai Hao, who was eating and drinking heartily next to her, suddenly paused and looked at Qin Nan.
Bai Hao: "Once they arrive, everything is up to you."
Qin Nan was taken aback, not understanding what it meant, but still got up and went out. The lights in the front yard were usually not turned on, as no one would come at night. Only the lights in the lanterns at the entrance were turned on, and the switch was in the back yard, which was more convenient.
Qin Nan walked to the front hall and turned on the lights inside, then turned on the ground lights installed in the courtyard, instantly illuminating the front courtyard.
The five people at the door, their faces contorted with anxiety, immediately looked at Qin Nan, who was walking out.
Qin Nan walked to the door with a puzzled look, looked at the five people with embarrassed expressions, and asked, "What's the matter, everyone?"
The five looked at each other, shoved each other a little, and finally the slightly chubby boy stepped forward to explain.
Qin Nan understood. This group of people came here to play but had not booked a hotel or guesthouse. They wanted to see if there were any places to stay, but to their surprise, all the places were full. They searched all day but could not find a place to stay. However, they could not actually sleep on the street, so they wanted to find a place to make do.
If all else fails, we can spend the day exploring tomorrow and then book a ride back. However, apart from guesthouses, most of the houses here are private residences, and the locals are not very willing to let outsiders stay overnight because most of the families are elderly people and children, which is not safe.
So the five of them had no choice but to come to Qin Nan's place, since he was young and the chances of getting in were higher.
Qin Nan narrowed his eyes and said indifferently, "Excuse me, this is a funeral home that is both unlucky and improper, and it looks like a run-down hotel. It's not a hotel or a guesthouse, and no one stays here."
Qin Nan understood what Bai Hao meant by the last sentence: it was up to him whether or not to keep the person without asking Bai Hao. However, the previous score had not been settled, and he felt there was a strange feeling in the courtyard, so he didn't want to keep the person. It would be troublesome if something happened, and he didn't want to cause trouble for Bai Hao.
He realized that Bai Hao was no ordinary person, but perhaps a master. He could run the shop with or without him, and it was a great favor that Bai Hao stayed. Otherwise, Qin Nan would not have taken such good care of Bai Hao. So it was better to avoid causing him any trouble.
Hearing Qin Nan's words, even the chubby boy couldn't help but feel embarrassed. He had spoken ill of her during the day and had a bad attitude, but now he was asking for her help. Anyone would be happy to do that.
The five people stood at the door, looking at each other. Qin Nan glanced at them, then placed her hand on the doorframe. "Is there anything else? We're closing now."
"Wait, if we, as clients, want to entrust this to someone, could we..." one of the girls said anxiously, her face flushed, but Qin Nan interrupted her.
Qin Nan: "Our guest hours are long over. If you have any requests, please come back tomorrow."
Qin Nan made a move to close the door, which made the girl who had spoken earlier even more embarrassed and angry. The others were also at a loss for what to do. The boy who had argued with Qin Nan earlier suddenly stepped forward as if he were going to his execution and bowed deeply to Qin Nan.
