Chapter 26 Reaping Souls

Seeing Qin Nan's expression change, Bai Hao knew he had guessed. "Just as you thought."

Qin Nan: "Then why didn't you come earlier...?"

Bai Hao: "Are the living more important than the dead? The living can take revenge, but the dead can't?"

Qin Nan: "......"

Bai Hao sighed softly, "She's just giving a warning; she won't make Mo Shan take the blame."

Murong Xue: "Then..."

"The police should be here soon. Just tell the truth then. The deceased deserves an explanation." Bai Hao said softly, then got up and went back to the backyard to continue watching his TV series.

The three people inside looked at Qin Nan, who sighed softly and explained, "Two years ago, someone reported this house missing. Apparently, a girl went missing, but her body was never found. I wasn't here at the time, so I don't know what happened. Now it seems..."

Lin Shaoan swallowed hard. "It was Li Wenfeng and Wu Xuan who killed someone and hid them..."

Qin Nan nodded: "Probably. Let's wait for the police to come. I haven't touched that well platform since I came back. It's been abandoned for a long time. I told you not to go near it before because I felt uncomfortable there. I didn't expect this to happen."

Murong Xue: "It's because we didn't listen to you, otherwise this wouldn't have happened."

Qin Nan comforted them, "Don't worry, our boss said everything's fine, they'll definitely be alright."

Qin Nan asked them to sit for a while and made them tea. Actually, the three Liangshan men wanted to leave, but Qin Nan suggested they wait for the police to arrive. They didn't dare disobey. Fortunately, Qin Nan was with them. It was daytime, and the sun was quite strong outside, so nothing happened.

About half an hour later, the police arrived. Qin Nan and Liang Shan explained the situation to the police, who then sent people to remove the guardrails from the well platform and sent others down to dig.

When Qin Nan left five years ago, the well platform had water, but it was no longer used because the use of groundwater was to be reduced and tap water was to be used instead. So the part of the well platform used for drawing water was removed and a guardrail was added.

When the house was being repaired, the workers told Li Cheng that there was no water inside, only silt. However, for safety reasons, the railings were reinstalled and locks were added.

Qin Nan and Liang Shan looked at the group of people in the courtyard. After searching for more than an hour, the people in the well said they had found it.

Bai Hao also leisurely came out from the backyard and stood behind Qin Nan.

The well was cordoned off, but the house wasn't sealed off. After all, it had been a long time, so sealing off the house wouldn't have made a difference. Everyone was taken to the police station to give their statements again.

As Bai Hao and Qin Nan were about to hail a taxi after leaving the police station, Liang Shan and his two companions caught up with them.

Murong Xue: "Brother Qin, Boss Bai, is this matter over?"

Bai Hao didn't even turn his head. "The rest is none of your business."

Qin Nan waved to them, and the two got into the car and drove away.

Sitting in the car, Qin Nan looked at Bai Hao, who seemed to be deep in thought, and asked softly, "Can those two people be convicted? I remember there was no result back then, and so much time has passed now..."

Bai Hao: "If the laws of the world can't provide a result, then she will demand it herself."

Qin Nan: "What about Luo Yang and Mo Shan?"

Bai Hao: "They were just unlucky to become the carrier. Didn't you remind them? They reaped what they sowed. Isn't this a good lesson?"

Qin Nan nodded. He sensed something was wrong with the well platform and kept his distance, but the two of them still went over to get closer. He was helpless.

It was past six o'clock when the two got home. Qin Nan glanced at the well platform where the warning line was set up. The strange feeling from before was gone, so there should be nothing there. However, Qin Nan still didn't really want to go near that area. He recalled the figure that suddenly appeared outside the window when Bai Hao was not there.

Qin Nan shook herself, closed the gate, and followed Bai Hao back to the backyard to start preparing dinner.

Hearing the two return, Totoro happily climbed onto the table and sat down, watching Qin Nan go into the kitchen to get busy.

Bai Hao glanced at Qin Nan in the kitchen, then picked up the Totoro and placed it on the coffee table in front of the sofa.

Bai Hao: [Do you remember where the Pixiu lives?]

Totoro: [Pixiu? Boss, you mean the Piyuan family?]

Bai Hao: [Yes, have him come over, but he can't just come directly. I want to put a stone statue at the entrance of the courtyard.]

Totoro: [A stone statue?]

Bai Hao: [Yes.]

Totoro: [Okay, boss, I'll go tonight. When should I have him come over?]

Bai Hao: [Ten days later.]

Totoro: [Yes, boss!]

Totoro nodded and continued to sit on the table munching on snacks, while Bai Hao continued watching his drama.

After dinner, Qin Nan cleaned up the kitchen and came out to see Bai Hao sitting on the sofa watching TV. Before, Bai Hao always knew when someone came, and he knew everything that happened to the client. It seemed like he knew everything. Qin Nan thought to herself and sat down on the sofa.

Qin Nan: "Boss, how do you always know when someone is coming?"

Bai Hao: "It's innate."

Qin Nan: "Born to tell fortunes?"

Bai Hao: "Fortune telling? I don't know how."

Qin Nan: "Did you watch the security camera footage? But that doesn't make sense, you're always downstairs..."

Seeing Qin Nan deep in thought, Bai Hao leaned closer with a sinister look in his eyes and asked, "Do you think I'm human?"

"What?!" Qin Nan grabbed a cushion and sat back. "Boss, can you please stop scaring me?!"

Bai Hao pulled back, paused for a moment, and said, "Just kidding."

Qin Nan was speechless with anger. After taking a shower, he went straight upstairs. Qin Nan looked at the empty room with the door open. He had installed surveillance cameras before, and there should be video recordings of what happened to the five students that night, but... never mind, he wouldn't look!

Seeing Qin Nan go upstairs to rest, Totoro immediately slipped away. Bai Hao leisurely turned off the TV, washed up, and went to bed.

Life returned to normal, with only the police occasionally coming to check on the well platform, and the silt at the bottom of the well had all been cleared away.

As for the courtyard, there are no traces left. Not only did Qin Nan renovate the old house, but the scene was also cleaned up after the case was closed two years ago. It's uncertain whether it's still possible to investigate now.

About a week later, the police removed the cordon. Qin Nan asked Officer Song, who was familiar with him and often came to his place, and he was told that the well platform was no longer needed and that someone could clean it. As for the outcome, Qin Nan could tell from Officer Song's displeased expression that the result might not be good.

Qin Nan remembered that Zhao Qiuyan was a forensic doctor in the provincial criminal investigation team, so she asked her about the results. Zhao Qiuyan said that she could not tell her the specific details, but could only ask for the results.

However, before Zhao Qiuyan could reply, Qin Nan received a call from Murong Xue. He had given her the item that Murong Xue had asked him for at the police station last time.

Murong Xue: "Brother Qin, Li Wenfeng and Wu Xuan are both dead."

Qin Nan: "Dead? Even a sentence wouldn't be handed down so quickly, would it?"

Murong Xue: "It's not a sentence... it feels like being sentenced to death!"

Qin Nan: "Taking my life?"
