Chapter 28 Nightmare

The room was dimly lit, filthy, and cluttered with furniture that was overturned and trash was everywhere. The fifty-square-meter room was filled with a foul odor.

Zhou Miao huddled under the curtains by the window of the small bedroom, leaning against the corner of the wall, holding a tattered and dirty teddy bear in her arms. The small room was also extremely dirty and messy, with the bed overturned and the bedding scattered all over the floor, covered with many footprints.

Zhou Miao looked helplessly at the environment before him. It was the same dream again. It had been going on for more than half a month, and every night it was the same place.

Moreover, he himself had turned into a child of about seven or eight years old, huddled in a corner, only able to see the scene in front of him, and Zhou Miao felt panicked whenever he looked toward the bedroom door.

The doorway was pitch black and there was nothing there. Zhou Miao wanted to get up and go to the door to take a look, but his legs felt like they weighed a ton and he couldn't get up no matter what he did. He could only look at everything in front of him.

At first, Zhou Miao doubted that this was a dream because it felt too real. He could even clearly smell the odors in the air. The first time, Zhou Miao almost threw up because the sour and musty smells were too overwhelming.

Moreover, there was a fishy stench emanating from something unknown, and a few days later, my dreams also included the smell of alcohol and the vomit from drinking too much. In short, it was hard to describe!

Zhou Miao woke up in agony for the first time, scrambling out of bed to the toilet and vomiting violently, scaring her roommate half to death as she was washing up in the morning.

After a few times, Zhou Miao got used to it, but every time she woke up, she found herself with tears streaming down her face and a tightness in her chest. The scene in the dream was too oppressive, with only dappled light filtering through the gaps in the tattered curtains. Now, Zhou Miao never closes the curtains, whether it's day or night.

Zhou Miao hugged his teddy bear and looked around the room, trying to see how it was different from yesterday. Although it was boring, it was the only thing Zhou Miao could do. He had memorized where everything in the room was and how it was arranged.

After all, he had been sitting there all night, only able to see what was in front of him. He knew there was a window behind him, but just like he couldn't stand up, he couldn't turn around either.

Even the thought of turning around made him shudder, and he would involuntarily look towards the doorway, as if there was something terrifying there.

The small room was dimly lit, with only a few slivers of light, but strangely enough, Zhou Miao could see everything in the room clearly.

However, everything he could see was black and white, except for the teddy bear in his arms, a large beige teddy bear. Zhou Miao couldn't turn around to see the bear; he could only hug it from behind. Only when he was hugging the bear did Zhou Miao feel at ease.

"Crack—clang—" Suddenly, the sound of an aluminum can being crushed and falling to the ground came from the direction of the door, and a strong smell of alcohol wafted in.

Zhou Miao swallowed hard, his heart pounding in his throat as he stared intently at the bedroom door. If it were the real Zhou Miao, he wouldn't be afraid of anything, but right now, he felt like he wasn't himself, unable to control his emotions.

"Tap tap tap—" A moment later, the sound of high heels came from outside the door, as if someone was walking this way and about to enter the room.

Zhou Miao stared intently at the doorway, listening to the approaching footsteps. He shrank behind the bear, only his head showing, until the footsteps stopped.

Suddenly, a hand appeared and rested on the door frame. Zhou Miao could clearly see that the hand was well-maintained, with red nail polish on its nails.

Immediately afterwards, a figure appeared at the door, wearing black high heels, slender long legs, a red tight-fitting dress that only reached the upper thigh, a great figure, long hair reaching her waist, her hair permed into waves, the neckline of the dress was extremely low, and a thin gold chain hung around her neck.

Zhou Miao could only see the woman's neck; he could no longer lift his head. The fear and despair that filled his heart made his head feel extremely heavy.

Zhou Miao lowered his head and watched the woman walk into the room, carrying a wine bottle in her right hand. Her steps were unsteady. The woman stopped in the middle of the bedroom, sneered, and looked at Zhou Miao.

Then she raised the bottle in her hand and smashed it at Zhou Miao. Zhou Miao watched helplessly as the bottle came crashing down on him, trying to dodge, but he couldn't move.

Zhou Miao didn't feel any pain, but his vision was obstructed, and a very viscous liquid flowed down. He reached out and wiped it, and the bright red blood stung his eyes.

"Ring ring ring—" The alarm clock on the bedside table rang.

Zhou Miao felt his eyelids getting extremely heavy, and the scene before him began to blur. But the last thing he saw was the woman picking something up from the ground and walking over. Then, Zhou Miao suddenly stood up.

He subconsciously touched his forehead; his skin was smooth and there was nothing there. Zhou Miao took a tissue from the bedside table to wipe away his tears, then clenched his right fist and pressed it tightly against his chest.

The image of the bottle hitting him kept replaying in Zhou Miao's mind. After calming down, Zhou Miao got up and went to the living room to get a glass of water.

Lu Zeqi opened the door sleepily and saw Zhou Miao sitting on the sofa in the living room, drinking water absentmindedly.

He knew that Zhou Miao had woken up from another nightmare. It was the first time that Zhou Miao had been so startled that he thought he was sick. It turned out that he had vomited because he dreamed of something disgusting. He had never seen anything like it before. At first, he thought Zhou Miao was joking, but for the past two weeks, Zhou Miao had been somewhat dazed and his complexion was extremely poor.

Just as Lü Zeqi was about to go over and ask Zhou Miao if she needed to go to the hospital, Zhou Miao's phone rang.

Zhou Miao picked up his phone, and the screen displayed—Murong Xue.

Zhou Miao: Hello, Xiaoxue.

Murong Xue: Brother, have you gone out yet?

Zhou Miao: Going out? What for?

Murong Xue: No way, cousin, what's wrong with you? Did you forget that you were supposed to volunteer at the stray dog shelter today?

Zhou Miao: Ah! Today, I... I forgot. I'll get ready and head out right away. Wait for me to come over!
