Chapter 40 A New Commission

Before they knew it, the time Bai Hao had mentioned had arrived. The guests were coming soon. It was already mid-November, the heating was on, the temperature was quite low, and the weather was dry. It had rained a couple of days ago, but it had been sunny for the past few days.

Most of the plants in the house had lost their leaves, and apart from the evergreen plants and plum blossoms, the yard looked rather bare.

Xuan Yu had previously planted evergreen cypress trees, so planting flowers and grass now would be useless. Winter is coming soon, and they won't survive. It would be best to plant some flowers and grass next spring.

Qin Nan was washing clothes in the washing machine on the first floor as usual when Bai Hao, who had been cooped up in the study, suddenly came downstairs after changing his clothes.

Bai Hao: "They've arrived."

Qin Nan changed her clothes because she had gone out, and upon hearing this, she went to the front yard with Bai Hao.

Bai Hao sat in the front hall, while Qin Nan went to the door. As soon as she stepped out of the front hall, she saw two people standing at the door.

As they approached, they saw a chubby man wearing a suit with a woolen overcoat. He was balding and looked at least fifty years old, with a face full of anxiety. Beside him was a thin, serious-looking middle-aged man who looked to be in his thirties or forties, also with a troubled expression.

Qin Nan: "Is there something you two need?"

As Qin Nan stepped inside, the fat man greeted her, "Hello, hello, are you Boss Bai?"

Qin Nan shook his head. "The boss is inside. Please come in, both of you."

Qin Nan led the two into the front hall and then went to make tea. Bai Hao looked at the visitors but did not get up or greet them. He did not like to touch others, including shaking hands.

Before the two could speak, Bai Hao spoke first, "Vice Principal Wang, Director Li."

Wang Long and Li Yan were taken aback upon hearing this, then frowned.

Bai Hao chuckled softly, "It's not surprising that this matter has caused quite a stir, is it? However, it's strange that quite a few people went there and came looking for me?"

Bai Hao's words made the two of them a little embarrassed. They thought Bai Hao was investigating them, but it turned out that he found out from someone in the same industry. After all, their matter was indeed very troublesome, otherwise they wouldn't have come here, since they were from a neighboring city.

Wang Long chuckled. "Since Boss Bai knows what we're here for, I won't waste any more words. I wonder if Boss Bai can resolve this matter?"

Bai Hao was holding a contract. Qin Nan poured tea and handed it to Wang Long. Wang Long glanced at the contract and signed it.

He had seen quite a few such contracts in the past two weeks. After all, Bai Hao wasn't the first one they had hired. However, most of those people eventually returned their deposits, just to distance themselves from the matter.

Bai Hao looked at Qin Nan, who shook her head, indicating that she wouldn't go!

Bai Hao thought about what happened last time and agreed. He decided to go by himself. He said, "Wait a moment," and went back to the backyard.

Then he put on a coat and a fanny pack. Qin Nan also added a scarf to prevent people from seeing the short-sleeved shirt under Bai Hao's coat, as the weather was really not suitable.

Qin Nan watched the three of them leave in their car, then closed the gate. Usually, no one would come at this time. When Qin Nan was about to go back to the front hall to tidy up, Xuan Yu was measuring something by the well. Qin Nan went over and chatted with him.

Originally, they wanted to build a flower stand against the wall. Qin Nan and Xuan Yu discussed it for a long time. Xuan Yu said she would think about it some more and then went back to the house to study it.

Qin Nan went back to the front hall to collect the paper cups and then found that Wang Long had left behind a jade thumb ring. Qin Nan glanced at it and left it untouched. Almost an hour had passed, and there was no point in saying anything now. She would send a message to Bai Hao later, and if necessary, send the item back or wait for someone to come and pick it up.

Qin Nan returned to the backyard and curiously searched online for recent news about the school. She found it in no time.

More than a month ago, a mysterious white fog suddenly appeared on the mountain near the Tongan Private Agricultural and Industrial College. Many students were injured as a result, and some even rolled down the hillside and were hospitalized. All the students said they had encountered a ghost. At first, no one believed it. Later, a student went missing for three days and was found at the foot of the mountain in a state of severe exhaustion. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The police started their investigation and encountered strange things. Many people were injured, and they said it was like being trapped in a ghost wall. There was nothing they could do but close the mountain. However, this mountain was the most convenient road to the school. The other road was very steep and very easy to have an accident. If they were to spend money to repair it, it would be a lot of money.

So, after weighing the options, the school decided to hire someone to perform a ritual, since this didn't seem like an ordinary matter. However, after searching for several people, they all came out in a sorry state. There was also one person who, for some unknown reason, had been missing for several days. When he was found, he was in a terrible state. When he woke up, he said he was trapped and couldn't get out. He refused to eat or drink and eventually fainted.

Qin Nan unconsciously recalled that dream and shuddered. He knew it was right not to go! After all, he was just a mortal.

Qin Nan prepared lunch for the four kids at noon. After lunch, Xuan Yu and Teng Xue stayed in their room, while Chi Wei and Pi Yuan washed the dishes and cleaned. At first, Qin Nan thought the two cleaned quickly because they were quick and efficient, but later she found out it was because they were in a hurry to play on the computer.

Qin Nan wondered what the two children were watching or playing on the computer. She was relieved that they weren't ordinary children, otherwise their eyes and bodies would definitely not have been able to withstand it. But the two children were still lively and energetic, and their eyesight was even better than Qin Nan's.

Qin Nan has less than 200 degrees of myopia due to studying, and he is quite careful about it because he doesn't like wearing glasses.

In the afternoon, Qin Nan began tidying up the grape trellis. The grapevines had lost leaves, and there were also grapes that had fallen because they hadn't been picked in time, so they needed to be cleaned up. The koi in the fishpond were still lively and swimming happily in the water. Qin Nan scattered fish food and cleaned up the fallen leaves around the pond.

After tidying up, Qin Nan went to the front yard toilet to wash her hands. When she came out, she saw someone coming to the front door. Qin Nan was a little surprised, because there shouldn't be any more guests.

Qin Nan walked over curiously, and the person turned around at the same time. Qin Nan froze on the spot when he saw the person's face.

This person shouldn't be here!

Qin Nan looked at him expressionlessly. The man was about 1.8 meters tall, wearing a black overcoat, suit trousers, and leather shoes. He had sunglasses on his head, thin, arched eyebrows, high-set phoenix eyes, and a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth. Especially when he saw Qin Nan, there was an indescribable depth in his eyes.

This person is named Helian Jun, and he was Qin Nan's first love. However, that was just a mistake during their student days. Qin Nan has no feelings for this person anymore, and seeing him again doesn't stir any emotions. It's best to treat unworthy people as strangers.

Helian Jun: "It's been a long time since I've seen Anan. I'm back in China. I just came from the airport."

Qin Nan glanced at him indifferently, "Closed today, please come another day."

Helian Jun strode up to Qin Nan. "A Nan! I've come to find you. I promised you I would come to find you. You said you would wait for me!"

Qin Nan took two steps back and sneered, "Excuse me, do we know each other? The shop is closed today and we are not serving customers. Please come back another day!"

Helian Jun frowned. He thought what was said online was all false. He didn't expect that Qin Nan had really fallen for someone else.
