Just as Qin Nan was about to return to the backyard, he saw the painting that Wu Yulin had brought to the front hall. He went over, put the painting on the table, and unpacked it. Sure enough, it was his father's painting, "Quiet Night".
The night scene and the lake surface were tranquil and peaceful; this was one of the few paintings Qin Nan had ever seen by her father.
Qin Nan carried the painting back to the backyard. Chi Wei and Tao Xiaolu were having a great time playing on the sofa. Pi Yuan quietly kept Xuan Yu company as she stared blankly. Xuan Yu rested her chin on her hands with a worried expression.
Despite Bai Hao's assurance, Xuan Yu was still worried about his father and the others. Before coming, he had found it strange that his parents, who were always protective of their children, had so readily packed him up and dumped him here. Perhaps his parents had sensed something at that time and made preparations in advance, since his second uncle's younger brother had also been sent to other divine beast homes.
Qin Nan didn't quite understand the affairs of the Divine Beast Realm, nor did he know what they were worried about, but he trusted Bai Hao. After thinking for a moment, he carried the painting upstairs.
After I put down the painting, I'll make some food for the kids and some easy-to-carry snacks. They'll definitely still go to that place called Mingchuan. He's just an ordinary person, and there's not much he can do to help.
Passing by the second floor, Qin Nan glanced at Bai Hao, who was sitting in a chair in the room thinking, and quietly turned around to continue upstairs. But as soon as she took a step, Bai Hao hugged her from behind.
Qin Nan: "Bai Hao, you scared me! Don't do that so suddenly!"
Bai Hao: "You're coming to the Underworld with us."
Qin Nan: "Huh? Me? Why?"
Bai Hao: "There is something I don't know, and someone I can't know. It's like how you are to me. Even though we are intertwined, I know your past, but I can't see your future or your past."
Qin Nan: "What do you mean?"
Bai Hao: "Perhaps you are not an ordinary person, including your father and mother. Your grandparents were indeed ordinary people, but your parents were not. Or perhaps, they did not die."
Qin Nan stood there, stunned. This matter had a huge impact on her. Her parents, who had long since passed away, might not be dead yet? And they might not be ordinary people?
Bai Hao: "I can't explain it in detail either. I just asked my clansmen, and they couldn't even sense the matter or the person I was talking about. In other words, if I hadn't come into contact with you, I wouldn't even know there was something unknown."
Qin Nan: "Then, then what am I?"
Qin Nan never imagined that one day she would be pondering such profound philosophical questions: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?
Bai Hao said helplessly, "I don't know, that's why we have to go and see together."
Qin Nan remained silent for a long time before nodding: "Okay, I'll go!"
Qin Nan had doubts, but the most important thing was that Bai Hao said his parents might not be dead. In fact, he himself felt that he had forgotten many things, such as why he was afraid of ghosts? And why he wasn't afraid of anything else?
Furthermore, he had worked beyond his physical limits, yet his body didn't break down like most people. He always thought that exercising was good for his health, but now he thinks that might not be the case.
Furthermore, he doesn't actually have many memories of his mother; they are all vague. He only has some impressions of and interactions with his father.
It seems there really is a mystery surrounding him, waiting for him to unravel it.
Seeing that Qin Nan agreed, Bai Hao also needed to consider some things. After all, Mingchuan was in the Mountain and Sea Realm, and in principle, ordinary people could not enter the Mountain and Sea Realm. However, nothing is absolute, and there was a way, but it would take some time to prepare some things.
Thinking about it, Bai Hao's gaze fell on the painting in Qin Nan's arms.
Qin Nan held up the painting for Bai Hao to see. It was the same as the one she had seen in the exhibition hall, except that there was no girl in the painting, only scenery.
Qin Nan: "This should be my dad's painting. I saw it when I was a child, but that was a long time ago."
Bai Hao: "You're not sure?"
Qin Nan: "I need to go to the art studio to get some things to verify."
Bai Hao: "Verification?"
Bai Hao didn't find anything special about the painting.
Qin Nan laughed and said, "Wouldn't you know if I took you to see it?"
The two went up to the third-floor studio. Qin Nan took the painting out of its frame and placed it on the easel to secure it. She then rummaged through a cabinet filled with bottles, jars, and paints. After a while, she waved a small, transparent spray bottle in front of Bai Hao.
Qin Nan: "That's it. If it were an authentic piece, it would have appeared."
As he spoke, Qin Nan shook the transparent liquid in the small spray bottle and sprayed it all over the canvas.
The deep blue night sky turned black, the clear lake surface became dim, and the crescent moon appeared and disappeared. Just as the scene was looking dim, the night sky was suddenly filled with stars, and the grass by the lake appeared with specks of light.
The painting suddenly felt completely different, but after a short while, it returned to its original state.
Qin Nan looked at Bai Hao with delight, but Bai Hao stared blankly at the painting.
Bai Hao: "The belly of white jade can turn the world upside down."
Qin Nan: "Huh? What are you talking about?"
Bai Hao looked at Qin Nan seriously and said, "This is something from the Mountain and Sea Realm. Are you sure it belongs to your father?"
Qin Nan was taken aback, then nodded mechanically. It was indeed his father's, but he didn't know it was from Bai Hao's world. Could it be that his father was also a divine beast?!
The two looked at each other in silence, everything understood without words. Perhaps Bai Hao's guess was indeed correct.
Bai Hao: "Don't overthink it, you'll find out the answer eventually."
Qin Nan nodded, handed the small spray bottle to Bai Hao, and then put the painting away.
After collecting the paintings, Qin Nan glanced at the framed paintings piled up in the corner, walked over, and lifted the white cloth covering them.
