Chapter 99: More Clues

Luo Lin looked at the memo in shock, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't remember it. He really couldn't remember, and he didn't remember having a dream either.

But he is indeed getting married soon, to marry someone.

Yes, he's going to get married... But who is she? Who is he going to marry? Is all of this a lie?

Qin Nan was also quite surprised, but then she remembered what Bai Hao had said: this was a debt owed by Luo Lin, and the person he was going to marry was someone who had come to collect the debt.

Thinking of this, Qin Nan suddenly paused, Bai Hao... who is he? How did he come up with this name?

Before Qin Nan could think any further, there was a knock on the door. He was startled, but soon his vision blurred, and he swayed and fainted on the bed.

On the other side, Luo Lin was still racking his brains when the knocking on the door became more and more urgent, the dense knocking like drumbeats making him restless.

Luo Lin suddenly looked up and stood up, his eyes clouded with gray. He closed the bedroom door, shutting Qin Nan out, and then went to open the door.

Outside the door stood a middle-aged woman with a deathly pale face. Apart from her eyes being filled with black, she looked no different from an ordinary person. However, her brown-yellow hair and ancient costume looked out of place.

When Luo Lin opened the door, the woman seemed not to react at first, and then stiffly knocked in the air.

Luo Lin: "What's the matter?"

"The village chief is looking for you. Guests have arrived in the village and you need to receive them."

Luo Lin: "I understand, I'll be right there."

Seemingly having heard the answer she wanted, the middle-aged woman turned and left.

Although Luo Lin couldn't recall the forgotten events, he believed Qin Nan's words and the diary entries, and there was something wrong with them.

However, he has no choice now. Even if he has doubts now, he will forget them soon, and even more things.

Moreover, he felt increasingly sluggish in his thinking, and perhaps one day he would become like the villagers. For this, he had to do something.

Luo Lin closed the door and returned to the bedroom. He suddenly woke up as if startled, went to check on Qin Nan, and found that she seemed to be asleep.

He moved Qin Nan into the bed, covered her with a blanket, put away the things they had just looked at and placed them under Qin Nan's blanket, then got up, touched the dagger in his pocket, and went out to the village chief's house.

This is strange. The village chief claims to be his son, but insists on living separately. Thinking about this, Luo Lin recalled the words of the messenger earlier.

In the past, there have been "guests" who came, mostly adventurers or people seeking novelty. They only come in and never leave, and they have all become members of the village. They have forgotten not only their past but also themselves, and have been given new identities and names.

Luo Lin was very concerned about this matter. Each "guest" was like a vacant cell, forced to fill the missing parts of the village. But what was the point of replacing someone else?

Just then, Luo Lin saw the village chief's house, but before he got there, he suddenly noticed someone behind him. He turned around and saw a man standing in the shadows next to the house.

Luo Lin was startled and tried to draw his dagger, but the man was faster and surprisingly strong. In just a couple of moves, he was dragged into the shadows.

Luo Lin: "Who are you? What do you want?"

Bai Hao looked at Luo Lin to confirm before letting him go.

Bai Hao: "Where is Qin Nan?"

Luo Lin was taken aback: "Who are you? How do you know...?"

Before Luo Lin could finish speaking, someone came out. He glanced at the person who had called him earlier. Although he didn't know who Bai Hao was, it was clear that he wasn't from here and hadn't been affected.

Luo Lin: "The village chief is looking for me. Qin Nan is at my house. Go down the path, to the ninth house. The door isn't locked, and he's in the bedroom. Be careful, or they'll catch you!"

Luo Lin finished speaking quickly, blocked Bai Hao behind him, and walked out, stopping the middle-aged woman who was going to find him. The two of them went into the village chief's house together.

Bai Hao watched their departing figures with some surprise, and this confirmed what he had initially known.

The formation of this place is related to Qin Nan. Luo Lin only had contact with Qin Nan, and then he seemed to regain some of his self-awareness.

But what exactly is Qin Nan's identity?

If this place is related, it proves that Qin Nan is connected to the Netherworld. Could it be that he comes from the Netherworld, and that he is truly the answer to the matter of the Nether River?

If that were the case, then those two wouldn't have brought Qin Nan to the human world and would have raised him using the lifestyle of ordinary people, so there must be another reason.

The letter sent to him seemed to foresee his relationship with Qin Nan, but it didn't allow it. It hoped that he could protect Qin Nan, but it forbade them from having any intimate behavior.

The letter arrived too late; everything that needed to be done had already been done, and it didn't mention any consequences of having sex.

Bai Hao concealed himself and, following Luo Lin's instructions, went from house to house, pushing open the door to enter each place he arrived at.

In the inner room, Bai Hao pushed open the door and saw Qin Nan on the bed. He knew that Qin Nan was just asleep because his strength had been restored, but his innate abilities were still somewhat hindered.

Moreover, Bai Hao looked down at the array on his watch and found it to be completely ineffective, unable to sense Qin Nan's location.

Before coming here, he didn't know the reason for the formation of this village, but he knew it was related to Qin Nan. Now, he has no information about the village.

Bai Hao cared about this matter somewhat. His ability was like a wireless network, while Qin Nan was like a signal jammer. Only when it was temporarily turned off could the network be used.

However, while omniscience is an innate ability of the Bai Ze clan, it seems to be countered when facing Qin Nan.

Could it be that Qin Nan has a very deep connection with the Bai Ze clan?

Bai Hao sat on the edge of the bed, gazing at Qin Nan's sleeping face, lost in thought.

This sudden thought reminded him of something: other Bai Ze, such as Bai Muqiu, had parents, but he did not.

Bai Hao doesn't know how he was born. As far back as he can remember, he has lived with the clan leader. The letter mentioned that he was not allowed to have a relationship with Qin Nan, but rather with other Bai Ze...

However, Bai Hao couldn't figure out the reason. He didn't find himself any different from the other Bai Ze, while Qin Nan had a completely ordinary body and no abnormalities.

He rubbed his temples. Although he seemed to have gained more clues, he didn't seem to be getting any closer to the truth.

But... it doesn't matter.

He gently stroked Qin Nan's cheek, carefully tracing his features.

Whatever it is, it doesn't matter. All he knows is that she is his partner, his lover, and no matter what the truth is, he will face it with her.

Bai Hao lowered his head and kissed Qin Nan. Qin Nan, who was asleep, instinctively resisted, but to no avail.

After the kiss ended, Bai Hao pulled aside Qin Nan's clothes to reveal his chest, took a drop of his own blood essence from between his eyebrows and placed it on Qin Nan's forehead. Using the baby tooth hanging around Qin Nan's neck as an aid, he used magic and aura to draw an array on Qin Nan's body.

After the formation was completed, the traces of the formation disappeared from Qin Nan's chest, leaving only her fair and smooth skin.

Bai Hao looked down, his eyes dark and thoughtful. After a long while, he bent down and kissed the mark.
