Chapter 22 Extraneous Branches

Qin Nan sat watching TV listlessly. Bai Hao, who had just finished showering, came over to watch with him in his pajamas and slippers. Meanwhile, Totoro was playing with his toys in the small villa to help him digest his food.

The night was deep, and the autumn wind was blowing. The crickets in the grass were chirping incessantly, but because the temperature had dropped, it wasn't so annoying to listen to them.

It was already past ten o'clock. In the backyard house, Qin Nan was annoyed by Bai Hao's pestering. She went into the kitchen grumbling because tea eggs had appeared in the TV series, and there was even an explanation of them, which made Bai Hao hungry.

Qin Nan told him that if he made it tonight, he could only eat it tomorrow. Bai Hao said that it could be done in the morning, but Qin Nan didn't want to move after taking a shower, so Bai Hao just held him and watched TV pitifully.

He really shouldn't have let Bai Hao watch TV dramas. What kind of things has he learned? It was one thing before, but now, this is simply outrageous!

With no other option, Qin Nan went to the kitchen to prepare eggs. Turning around, she saw that Bai Hao was quite idle, so she picked him up and urged him to go to the front hall to get tea leaves.

Bai Hao glanced at Qin Nan, who had gone back to the kitchen, took his phone, and placed Qin Nan's phone on the dining table. Qin Nan was very angry now, and he couldn't provoke her any further. Then he leisurely went to the front hall.

"Just then..."

"ah!!!"

As soon as Bai Hao lifted the beaded curtain, the five people on the living room sofa suddenly cried out in alarm and looked at him. Bai Hao didn't even glance at them and went straight to the tea cabinet.

Opening the cabinet, one finds various kinds of tea, presumably because Qin Nan prefers different teas for different guests. Bai Hao then takes out his phone and dials Qin Nan's number.

When the people in the living room saw that it was Bai Hao, no one made a sound. When Bai Hao didn't want to talk to people, he gave off a gloomy and scary feeling.

Qin Nan was cleaning eggs in the kitchen, preparing to boil them, when his phone rang. He came out with a sullen face, picked up the phone, looked at the name Bai Hao, took a deep breath, and pressed the answer button.

Qin Nan: "If you say you want more dishes, I'm going to sleep right now!"

Bai Hao: "No, which type of tea do you want?"

Qin Nan paused for a moment, then said, "There are black tea bags in the cabinet downstairs. Bring me a can."

Bai Hao: "Oh, okay."

As soon as Bai Hao finished speaking, Qin Nan hung up the phone. Bai Hao put away his phone, took a can of black tea bags, and leisurely walked back to the backyard.

The five of them breathed a sigh of relief as soon as Bai Hao left.

"This guy is terrifying! Just looking at him makes my heart tremble!" Lin Shaoan patted his chest lightly.

The others nodded in agreement. Compared to Bai Hao, Qin Nan was far superior. Bai Hao was even scarier than the ghost stories they had told!

Before returning to his room, Bai Hao turned and glanced at the front hall. Qin Nan's appearance had significantly changed his initial thoughts. Now, he didn't know what would happen, but he hoped everything was under control.

Bai Hao put the tea bag in the kitchen, then continued watching TV on the sofa. In the kitchen, Qin Nan was boiling eggs and preparing seasonings.

Qin Nan boiled the tea eggs, covered them in the pot, and let them simmer overnight to enhance the flavor. By the time she finished cleaning up the kitchen, it was almost 11:30.

Qin Nan stretched and glanced at Bai Hao, who was still full of energy. She really wanted to take a picture of him with her phone. She turned around and looked at the Totoro in the villa next to the window. It was already asleep on the small bed. The door was left open, so Qin Nan closed it and went upstairs to sleep.

Bai Hao sat on the sofa until Qin Nan fell asleep. He looked up at the clock; it was five minutes to twelve. He already knew what was happening in the front hall. He smiled slightly, turned off the TV, and went upstairs to rest.

Qin Nan slept very well that night. For some reason, she didn't dream at all and slept until dawn. She woke up before the alarm went off and felt refreshed and in a good mood.

He hummed a little tune as he prepared breakfast in the kitchen. He made tea eggs the night before, cooked some millet porridge, made carrot and potato pancakes, and also took some bread slices, sliced ham, fried eggs, and made a few sandwiches.

After serving Bai Hao some fried vegetable pancakes and other food, I also gave the totoro some freeze-dried food and rat food. I then carried the sandwiches in a traditional wooden lunchbox to the front hall.

Qin Nan thought the five people were still asleep, but when he lifted the beaded curtain, he saw that they had dark circles under their eyes and looked haggard.

Qin Nan was startled. Was his sofa really that hard to sleep on? It was so soft, how could he be having such trouble sleeping?

Qin Nan: "What's wrong with you guys? Didn't you sleep well? I brought you some breakfast."

"No, it's nothing, thank you, Brother Qin." Luo Yang forced a smile, stood up, and took the food box Qin Nan handed him.

"Is the sofa uncomfortable?" Qin Nan opened the door to the front hall, and a breeze blew into the room, making it very refreshing.

"No, it's fine. It's just that we were bored last night and talked too much about ghosts, which scared us so much that we didn't sleep well." Liang Shan said, biting into his sandwich with a slightly embarrassed expression.

Qin Nan watched in bewilderment as the five people finished eating, thanked him, and then jogged out the door. Qin Nan scratched his head, wandered around the front hall a few times, but didn't see anything missing from the house. Why were those people running away?

Qin Nan quickly tidied up the paper cup trash and returned to the backyard. Bai Hao sat sleepily at the dining table, looking blankly until Qin Nan came in. He glanced at Qin Nan, got up to wash up, and then came back to eat.

Just after finishing their meal, the sound of lively gongs and drums came from outside the house. Qin Nan's eyes lit up; it was probably the start of a dragon and lion dance parade.

However, now is not a good time to go out and have fun. It's crowded during the day, especially on the first day of the National Day holiday. After the five people left, Qin Nan closed the door to prevent anyone from thinking it was a guesthouse or hotel. There were too many people, and it would be difficult to explain.

Qin Nan glanced at the refrigerator. There was enough vegetables and meat to last for a few days, so there was no need to go to the supermarket for the time being. However, the snacks were gone. There were many foodies in the family, and there was no food stored. Fortunately, there were some small shrimp that she had bought before that she hadn't eaten. She decided to make some sweet and sour shrimp. She would make whatever came to mind. Qin Nan started processing the shrimp in batches.

After half an hour of processing, Qin Nan washed his hands and dragged Bai Hao over to remove the shrimp veins. Then he went to tidy up the flowers and plants in the yard himself.

When Qin Nan returned, she glanced at Bai Hao sitting on the sofa watching TV, then went into the kitchen. She had finished processing a whole basin of shrimp. Qin Nan checked them one by one and was surprised to find that Bai Hao was quite efficient.

The Totoro, sitting on the table with its little paws trembling, looked at Qin Nan's satisfied expression and wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. It wanted to cry because it was still a laborer, but it wanted to laugh because Qin Nan was going to make something delicious.

The morning snacks were ready, and Totoro ate them with extra gusto—the fruits of his labor!

To avoid being discovered by Qin Nan, he quickly removed the shrimp veins. After all, his magic power was almost completely sealed. Apart from being able to transform into his original form, open his mouth to bite, and having thick skin, he didn't have any other abilities.

Qin Nan saw that the chinchilla really enjoyed the food, so she gave it a lot more shrimp, which made the chinchilla's belly round and full.

When Qin Nan had nothing to do, he would watch food videos on his tablet. He felt that his job was not as an assistant, but as a chef, a gardener, a nanny, or a babysitter. In short, it was definitely not as an assistant!

Bai Hao finished watching a TV series he was following. While searching for other shows, he noticed Qin Nan learning to cook a new dish. He went over to take a look, frowned, and then moved back.

He may know everything, but that doesn't mean he's omnipotent, like when it comes to cooking.

Bai Hao not only didn't want to do it, but more importantly, he didn't know how. Even though he knew how to make it, the food he produced was inedible. Even Taotie ran away after tasting his cooking, and he was at a loss.
