"I want to see General Qin." Lu Huai stopped and looked at him intently.
Lu Chuan remained silent, seemingly deep in thought.
Only Shu Zhan was completely confused. What were these dungeon conversations about? And what did they have to do with General Qin? He really couldn't understand them.
"Brother," Lu Huai closed his eyes, "didn't you ask me how I got here?"
"Um."
“Qin Qi…” Lu Huai paused, lowered his eyes, “was summoned to the palace by Emperor Yuxian and was even given the title of Consort Qi.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Chuan's eyes widened immediately. "Are you telling the truth?"
"Absolutely true."
"How could this be..." Lu Chuan muttered to himself, "Wasn't my sister-in-law about to give birth?"
Lu Huai gave a soft "hmm," and said, "The doctor said she'll give birth in about two months."
"Did His Majesty really summon your sister-in-law?" Lu Chuan still found it hard to believe, and looked at Shu Zhan, asking again.
Shu Zhan nodded. "Chang Jue is right. Emperor Yu Xian issued an edict summoning Qin Qi to the palace and bestowing upon her the title of Consort Qi."
"Then..." For the first time, Lu Chuan felt his mind was a little foggy. "Where did your sister-in-law go? What about Changjue?"
"Hmm." Lu Huai responded softly, "Emperor Yuxian threatened her with her father-in-law, and she went. She said she would wait for me to pick her up."
“No wonder…you and your sister-in-law were a perfect match, no wonder she’s gone…” Lu Chuan moved his lips, somewhat unable to accept the news he had just learned.
He patted Lu Huai's shoulder with a gesture of comfort and couldn't help but sigh.
"Brother, please take me to see General Qin." Lu Huai pursed his lips, and apart from his slightly hoarse voice, there was nothing else unusual about him.
Lu Chuan looked at him with concern. He rarely saw his carefree younger brother looking so travel-worn, and he rarely felt that he was so lifeless, as if he would not have stayed here long ago if he didn't still have things to do.
After all, he was his younger brother whom he had watched grow up, and Lu Chuan's heart softened. He sighed and led him to General Qin's tent. "Go in, the marshal is inside."
Lu Huai looked at Shu Zhan, who shook his head and waved his hand, "I won't go. I'll go see what food is available instead."
Lu Huai nodded, not insisting, and gave Lu Chuan a grateful look before telling the soldiers guarding the camp his wishes and asking them to relay the message.

...
The night was deep and dark, as black as ink.
Qin Xi hadn't slept in the same bed with Shu Hua for a long time. Back then, when they were young, Shu Hua often came to visit her. They would often stay at the Prime Minister's residence, then sleep together, chatting and laughing, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
"Yizhi," Shuhua called to her.
Qin Xi tilted her head. "Hmm?"
“Look,” she said, pointing to the light streaming in through the window, “the moon is out.”
Qin Qi looked in the direction she pointed. Sometime earlier, the moon, which had been hiding behind the dark clouds, had quietly peeked out, and its bright moonlight shone in, truly resembling frost on the ground.
“Yes, the moon,” she murmured. “It’s so bright.”
The last time she saw the moon was a few days ago. Feeling uneasy and unable to sleep, she stood by the window admiring the moon. Lu Huai stayed with her, holding her in his arms and trying to cheer her up.
But just a few days later, they parted ways. Lu Huai never told her where he was going, and she never asked. She only knew that he had said he would come to pick her and the child up.
Qin Xi stroked her belly, a slight smile curving her lips.
He said he would come to pick them up, he definitely would.
