Fallen petals are not heartless things; they turn into spring mud to nourish the flowers.

...

...

"The marshal wants you to come in." The soldier nodded to Lu Huai and pointed to the tent.

Lu Huai nodded. "Thank you."

The soldier waved his hand and said nothing.

Lu Huai lifted the curtain and entered the tent. Without looking around, he lifted his dusty white robe, bent one knee, and knelt before the person sitting in the main seat. "This humble subject, Lu Huai, pays his respects to the Great General."

General Qin glanced at him sideways, then turned his gaze back to the military treatise in his hands and said calmly, "Get up."

"Thank you, General Xie."

General Qin raised an eyebrow slightly. This kid has changed his form of address in such a short time? "General" sounds much more intimate than "Grand General".

He didn't look at Lu Huai, and asked in a detached tone, "What brings you to me?"

Lu Huai pursed his lips. "This humble subject would like to discuss with the general the matter of rebellion."

"Cough, cough, cough, cough..." General Qin choked, tilting his head to catch his breath for a while, wondering if he had misheard. He picked at his ear, "What did you say?"

“This may seem absurd,” Lu Huai tried to explain to him, “but what I did say was that I wanted to rebel.”

General Qin: "..."

He opened his mouth, feeling the world was somewhat surreal. General Qin closed his military treatise, looked Lu Huai up and down, and looked at him with amusement, "Do you know who I am?"

Lu Huai pursed his lips, “The late emperor personally appointed him as the General Who Pacifies the North.”

"Do you know that I am serving the royal family and His Majesty, not you, you brat?" General Qin put down his military treatise, his words chilling.

Lu Huai remained silent.

"Do you think your words are more useful than His Majesty's?" General Qin thought Lu Huai was somewhat naive. "Just because you are Lu Feng's son, Qin Deng's son-in-law, or Lu Chuan's younger brother?"

Lu Huai shook his head, "None of those, I am just myself."

"You yourself? A spoiled brat?" She looked at him in disbelief, as if she had heard a fairy tale.

Lu Huai took a breath and did not answer his question. Instead, he brought up something else, "Would the general be willing to listen to my family affairs?"

What business is it of his if his family affairs are none of his business?

General Qin hesitated for a moment, then nodded with a flourish, "Go ahead."

“In this life, two people have changed the course of my life,” Lu Huai said. “The first was the late emperor. From childhood, I had no ambition for learning and only wanted to enjoy life. Unexpectedly, the late emperor issued an edict and bestowed a marriage upon me. From then on, I only wanted to live with her in harmony and grow old together.”

"The second one is Emperor Yuxian." He smirked. "With a single decree, he summoned my wife, who was about to give birth, to the palace, and even wanted to bestow upon her the title of concubine and rewards, completely disregarding my wife's wishes. He even arrested my father-in-law, stripped him of his official rank and chopped off his fingers, just to threaten my wife. Surrounded by the Imperial Guards, my father-in-law's fate is still unknown."

Lu Huai didn't know what kind of feelings he had when he repeatedly said these words; he was even somewhat numb. Only when he thought of Qin Xi far away did his heart, which had been covered in dust, become vibrant again.

The more General Qin listened, the deeper his brow furrowed. Emperor Yuxian's handling of the matter was seriously flawed—something General Qin had discovered shortly after his ascension to the throne.

But he never imagined it would be so absurd.

The words "seizing a man's wife who was pregnant with his own child," "using his family as leverage," "being stripped of his official position and having his fingers chopped off," and "his fate unknown" swirled in General Qin's mind, leaving him somewhat disoriented.

However, he still managed to glean a very important piece of information.
