I present you with a phoenix hairpin, a token of my enduring love for you.

He placed his hopes on Qin Xi, looking at her with hopeful eyes.

Qin Xi shook her head helplessly and reached out to pull Lu Huai: "Alright, it's just a set of jewelry. I don't really like it. Let's go look at other stores."

“But…” Lu Huai hesitated.

“No buts,” Qin Qi interrupted him with a smile, “If you really want to buy it for me, then you should listen to me.”

As she spoke, she took his hand and led him outside.

Lu Huai was led out of the shop by her. Before leaving, he glared at the servant, who braced himself and pretended not to see it.

Even after walking more than ten meters, Lu Huai was still fuming.

Qin Qi tiptoed and patted his head. "Okay."

“I don’t want you to be wronged… I don’t want your father to scold you,” Lu Huai pouted.

“I know…” Before Qin Qi could finish speaking, a female voice rang out—

"Young Master Lu, Young Madam, please wait!"

Qin Xi turned around and saw that the person who came was dressed as a maid.

She smiled and curtsied to them, saying, "Gentlemen, my princess invites you."

Qin Qi nodded. There was only one princess in the capital, and it was obvious who she was.

Qin Xi and Lu Huai followed the maid to the door of a private room on the second floor of a teahouse. The maid smiled and said, "Please come in, my princess is waiting inside."

Qin Qi nodded: "Thank you."

"Madam, you flatter me."

"Cough, cough cough cough."

Before even seeing Princess Shanlai, I heard her coughing, so she must not be feeling well.

Qin Xi pushed open the door and saw the woman inside sitting at the table, coughing with her head down and covering her mouth. The windows were tightly closed, making it completely drafty.

Qin Qi frowned and looked at Princess Shanlai.

She was draped in a white fox fur coat, her long black hair tied into a simple bun with a plain ribbon, adorned only with a white jade hairpin. Her face, untouched by makeup, was flushed slightly from coughing, adding a touch of rosy color.

"Greetings, Princess," Qin Xi said, pulling Lu Huai along as they bowed.

Upon hearing this, Princess Shanlai raised her head and smiled at the two of them: "You've arrived, come and sit down quickly."

Upon finally seeing Princess Shanlai clearly, Lu Huai's face showed a hint of surprise and a touch of strangeness.

"Thank you, Princess."

Qin Xi did not notice his strange behavior, but instead led him to the table and sat him opposite Princess Shanlai.

The maid closed the door to the private room from the outside.

Qin Xi glanced at the tightly closed window and asked, "Why doesn't the princess open the window?"

Upon hearing this, Princess Shanlai shook her head with a wry smile: "I would like to, but I have been suffering from an illness for many years and really cannot stand the wind. I'm sorry to have made you laugh at my frail body."

Qin Xi nodded knowingly, "I see."

Princess Shanlai smiled and said, "I rarely leave the manor, so I am fortunate to have met you two today."

"It would be my honor," Qin Qi said.

"Why is Young Master Lu staring at me? Is there something on my face?" Princess Shanlai touched her face in confusion when she saw Lu Huai staring at her.

Caught red-handed, Lu Huai looked away and made up a story: "Oh, Princess, this hairpin is really beautiful. I was thinking about where I could buy one for my wife as well."

"You're so glib," Qin Xi glared at him.

Princess Shanlai smiled, pursed her lips, and touched the hairpin in her hair, a look of nostalgia welling up in her eyes: "This is... a gift from an old friend."

Lu Huai's eyes held a hint of inquiry. "I wonder if I know this old friend of the princess?"
