“Father-in-law,” Qin Xi stepped forward and smiled faintly, “That’s enough, thank you.”
"What are you saying, child? You're being too polite. The more valuable the gifts you bring on your return visit, the better you've been living in our family. What do you know?" Minister Lu looked at her unhappily.
Qin Xi simply smiled, her two dimples appearing and disappearing.
In the end, Qin Xi brought back so much stuff that one carriage was completely full, so Qin Xi and Lu Huai had to ride in another carriage. If the carriage hadn't been overflowing, Minister Lu probably would have made her load more. Two carriages for a family visit was a rare occurrence in the capital.
Before leaving, Minister Lu gave Lu Huai a series of instructions, telling him to straighten his back and not to look timid, completely forgetting that he had beaten him so badly a few days ago that he couldn't get out of bed.
"..."
Lu Huai looked at him speechlessly.
"Did you hear me, kid? If you lose face in front of your father-in-law, I'll settle the score with you!" Minister Lu said fiercely.
However, he was kind-faced by nature, and even when he deliberately acted fierce, he was not intimidating at all. Qin Xi actually found Minister Lu somewhat adorable.
"Okay, okay, I understand. Can I go now?" Lu Huai said dismissively.
"Remember what I said!" Minister Lu reminded him once again.
The two boarded the carriage. Lu Huai tried to strike up a conversation with Qin Xi, but Qin Xi remained cold and indifferent, barely responding to him. Lu Huai touched his nose, realizing he was making a fool of himself, and said nothing more.
The two barely exchanged a few words on the way, and soon arrived at the Prime Minister's residence.
Lu Huai intended to jump off the carriage first and carry Qin Xi down as he had done the day before, but he forgot that he was injured. He jumped with all his might and almost fell hard, but luckily A Yu was there to support him.
Qin Qi scoffed, utterly disdainful. Then, with graceful, lotus-like steps, she alighted from the carriage.
Upon hearing that the two had arrived, Prime Minister Qin hurriedly came out to greet them. The first thing he saw was Lu Huai's displeasure; he found fault with everything about him.
Lu Huai also felt that he was incompatible with the Prime Minister's residence, having almost tripped and fallen twice. He really didn't know if something was wrong.
"Yizhi!" Prime Minister Qin called out to Qin Qi as soon as he saw her.
"Father," Qin Qi's eyes reddened as soon as she saw him, then she smiled, revealing small dimples that made her look very cute and charming.
"Oh!" Prime Minister Qin walked over and took her hands in his, looking her up and down. "Yizhi, why have you gotten so thin? Are you doing well at the Minister's residence?"
Qin Xi smiled and said, "My daughter is doing very well. Lu Huai and my father-in-law treat her very well. She just misses you a little."
Upon hearing this, Prime Minister Qin couldn't help but tear up and sighed, "That's good, that's good."
These past few days, he hasn't been able to eat or sleep well, worrying that Qin Xi might be mistreated. Qin Xi has been by his side since childhood and has never left, so he's finding it hard to adjust to her sudden marriage.
"Why are there two carriages? Is your father-in-law here too?" Prime Minister Qin asked, puzzled.
"That carriage was for the things my father-in-law told me to bring back for my return visit. I said I didn't need so many, but he insisted on packing them in," Qin Xi said to Prime Minister Qin, her eyes sparkling.
"Good, good, good. It's clear that the Lu family treats you very well," Prime Minister Qin finally felt relieved and led Qin Qi into the mansion, leaving Lu Huai and A Yu staring at each other.
Lu Huai: "..."
Ayu: "...Young Master, have you been overlooked?"
"Shut up," Lu Huai glared at him, "What nonsense are you spouting? Hurry up and come inside with me."
Ayu: "Oh..."
Lu Huai strolled leisurely into the mansion. He didn't care; he had no shame anyway.
