011 The Miracle Doctor is Back
Beihai drove along, suppressing a chuckle the whole way.
It was already late, and there weren't many people on the street. They soon arrived at the house of the legendary healer, Ghost Hand.
Bei Hai stopped the carriage, lifted the curtain, and said inside, "Second Young Master, the Young Madam is still sitting there."
Through the gap in the lifted curtain, Yuan Chongjing saw Li Yang still sitting in the spot where they had left that afternoon. She had found a small piece of wood somewhere and, by the light of the lanterns hanging on the gate, was tinkering with something with her carving knife.
Yuan Chongjing was helped down from the carriage by Bei Hai.
Before they even got close, Li Yang spotted them: "Brother Jing! You're here!"
His face was full of surprise, as if he hadn't expected him to come.
Yuan Chongjing walked up to her and discovered that she had carved three little figures from that piece of wood: a man in a round-necked, narrow-sleeved robe, and a woman in a flowing long dress. They smiled at each other, each holding the hand of a chubby little girl who only reached their thighs.
Her craftsmanship was poor, and the human figures were only roughly shaped. Only the little girl seemed to have been carefully crafted by her, with even her eyebrows and features being depicted exquisitely and comprehensively.
Li Yang held up the statue, beaming with delight, and said, "What I just carved is the two of us and Xiao Taozi. Brother Jing, look, doesn't this person look like you!"
The little man figure wasn't finished yet; his face only had six tiny slits, a pair of eyebrows, a pair of eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
Yuan Chongjing said, "Which eye of yours saw that he looks like me?"
Li Yang withdrew his hand and said awkwardly, "I haven't finished carving it yet. It will look like it once I finish carving it."
Yuan Chongjing glanced at the still tightly closed gate. Without asking, he knew she hadn't seen anyone all afternoon. He turned and walked towards the carriage. After taking two or three steps and seeing that she hadn't followed, he turned back and said, "What are you still standing there for? Let's go back."
Li Yang shook his head: "I'll wait a bit longer, maybe Ghost Hand will be back soon."
Seeing her stubbornness, Yuan Chongjing felt a surge of anger well up inside him. He said, "Are you stupid? We've waited this long; even a fool would realize you've been played!"
Li Yang shook her head: "I believe him!"
"Why do you believe him? Just because you met once and exchanged a few words? Li Yang, should I say you're naive or just plain stupid? You're twenty-three, not thirteen. Can't you stop believing just because someone says a few nice things?!"
Li Yang stared straight at him, then suddenly laughed: "Brother Jing, are you worried about me?"
"Bullshit, who's worried about you? I'm afraid something will happen to you, and then my mother will come after me again!" Yuan Chongjing retorted.
Li Yang smiled coquettishly and said to herself, "Hmph, you're just saying that. You're just worried about my safety."
"Think what you want, are you leaving or not?"
"Wait a little longer," Li Yang winked at him, pointing to the night sky, "Look how beautiful the moon is! We haven't admired the moon together in so long, why don't we admire it here?"
Yuan Chongjing ignored her completely: "It's freezing! Who wants to admire the moon here? If you don't leave, I will!"
Bei Hai, who was eavesdropping on their flirting, thought: "..." Second Young Master, aren't you ashamed?! Who came out just now under the pretense of moon-viewing?!
Seeing that Bei Hai was about to speak, Yuan Chongjing immediately glared at him fiercely.
Li Yang quickly grabbed his sleeve: "If I leave now, wouldn't I have waited for nothing? We need to show the divine doctor our respect for him so that he will be willing to treat you! Don't you understand the saying 'Three visits to the thatched cottage'?!"
Yuan Chongjing stared at her impatiently, his tone extremely disdainful: "The key to 'Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage' is the 'three,' not the length of time you spent visiting each time! Did you read all those books back then and then swallow them whole?"
Li Yang said, but just as he was about to whine and act spoiled, he heard a lazy voice coming from the wall behind him: "Oh, chatting?"
Li Yang turned around in surprise and saw the young master she had seen earlier sitting comfortably on the wall. The moonlight shone on his white jade-colored clothes, as if sprinkled with a layer of fine silver light. He had a smile on his face, and his fair and flawless skin had a light silver glow. His eyebrows and eyes were exquisite and picturesque, like the most expensive and dazzling gemstone in the world. He was mysterious and noble, yet extremely beautiful, making it impossible for people to look away.
She exclaimed joyfully, "Miracle Doctor, you're back!"
The young man nodded, glanced at Yuan Chongjing, and explained, "I was delayed by something, and I'm not the swindler that someone said."
Li Yang laughed and said, "I knew the divine doctor wasn't that kind of person. He looks like the kind of person who keeps his word and is a great philanthropist."
The man burst out laughing at her praise, his smile so radiant it seemed to eclipse the moon above him: "Stop flattering me."
He slightly raised his chin and pointed at Yuan Chongjing, saying, "Is this your husband who has lost his memory?"
Li Yang was a little surprised that he knew about Yuan Chongjing.
As if sensing her thoughts, the man laughed and said, "What, you're allowed to inquire about me, but I'm not allowed to find out about you? Ah, Yangyang?"
Upon hearing his address, Yuan Chongjing's sharp eyes paused, then pierced him like a sword.
The young master acted as if he hadn't seen her, crossing his legs and speaking to Li Yang: "I'm the sixth child in my family. If Yangyang doesn't mind, you can just call me Sixth Brother~"
Li Yang chuckled awkwardly, "Please don't joke with me, Doctor. By the way, this is the statue I made; would you like to take a look?"
"Statue? What statue? I don't know anything about it."
Seeing his puzzled expression, Li Yang felt a pang of unease and a bad premonition arose in her heart.
She maintained her smile as she tore off the brocade cloth covering the statue: "This statue... you said the other day that if I could make a statue of Yama within three days, you would agree to treat my husband's illness."
The sixth young master stroked his smooth chin and asked suspiciously, "Really? Is that what I told you?"
Seeing that he was trying to renege on his debt, Yuan Chongjing was furious: "You deceived a woman and then won't admit it, what kind of man are you!"
The sixth young master was startled by his shout, swaying precariously on the wall. He patted his chest, still shaken, and said to Li Yang in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Oh, Yangyang, your husband is so scary! He's so mean to me~"
Li Yang couldn't stand his tone of voice, but since she needed his help, she had no choice but to silently endure it: "My husband is ignorant, please don't take it to heart, Divine Doctor. But about this statue, Divine Doctor, perhaps you should think about it again? Maybe you'll remember it."
Seeing Yuan Chongjing's sullen face and silence, while Li Yang stood in front of him, her small body unable to block him at all, yet full of courage, as if she could face thousands of troops for him.
In a daze, the Sixth Young Master felt like a villain trying to break up this loving couple who had suffered so much. He shook his head to shake off the thought and slowly said, "I remember now."
Before Li Yang could even feel the joy in her heart, she heard him say, "But I said you had to make this statue by hand. You broke your promise!"
“Hmm? This was indeed carved by my own hand. Look, Divine Doctor,” Li Yang held up her left index finger, which had been wrapped in thick gauze on it when she set off, “I even injured my finger for this statue.”
"His hand is injured too," the Sixth Young Master said, looking at Yuan Chongjing's hand.
After saying that, seeing that Li Yang was about to object, the Sixth Young Master spoke up before she could, saying, "Those are marks that could only be made by a carving knife. Yangyang, never try to fool a doctor with a wound."
Li Yang then realized that when he said 'by his own hands,' he meant for her to do it alone. She was a little discouraged: "Okay, I admit that my husband felt sorry for my injured finger and did it with me."
"Oh ho~" the Sixth Young Master teased, "Showing off to me, huh? The most loving couple in the capital?"
Li Yang smiled somewhat awkwardly: "I was just joking, everyone only called us that out of politeness. Please don't tease us, Doctor."
The Sixth Young Master teased her for a while, and felt all the gloom and frustration that had been building up in his heart today dissipate. He said, "Alright, I'm not one to break my promises. How about this, I can help you heal your husband, but you have to agree to one condition."
