Chapter 31. By what right?

Chapter 31. By what right?

Meng Chiwan's anxiety transformed into the motivation to draw the bow, each stroke seemingly requiring no effort or spiritual energy.

The young man approached Wen Liansong step by step, each step seeming to tighten her heartstrings a little more, until the tip of his sword was pressed against Wen Liansong's throat, at which point the string was completely taut, as if it would snap at any moment.

The boy smiled at her, bringing the tip of his sword closer, and then spoke softly: "Do you want to know my name? I can't kill you, so you should remember the name of the person who killed your companion."

Meng Chiwan's heart stirred. It turned out that the contract seal was not completely ineffective; at least he couldn't kill her for the time being.

"Wu Yuzhi. My name. You must remember it well in the future, because one day I will kill you, and you will have to go down and keep her company." The young man spoke softly, and then without giving her any chance, he plunged the sword into Wen Liansong's throat without hesitation!

Wen Liansong was still unconscious and completely unaware of her current situation.

Wu Yuzhi had a pleased smile on her lips, as if victory was in her grasp.

Between the smallest margins.

Submerged in skin and flesh.

Fresh blood spilled out.

"bite!"

"Why do you always have to come after me?" someone murmured behind me, the soft words carried by the wind.

The boy suddenly turned around.

Meng Chiwan appeared behind him at some point, her body adorned with shimmering lotus blossoms, and the golden bracelet in her hand gleaming brightly!

The last arrow she fired grazed the tip of Wu Yuzhi's sword, its icy points landing on his hand like tiny ice flowers.

Beneath her sleeve, out of his sight, lay her trembling hand, blood trickling down her elbow, the depleted spiritual energy in her veins unable to replenish its loss.

Wu Yuzhi tried to lift the sword, but the hand holding it gradually froze, and with each movement, it felt as if tiny ice needles were pricking her veins.

He frowned, then inhaled and exhaled spiritual energy in a flash, trying to dispel the icy spots.

Meanwhile, the other hand, which was not touched by ice, instantly prepared a magic ball and shot it towards Wen Liansong!

Meng Chiwan used most of her strength in that arrow, attaching the only ice needle talisman on her body. Perhaps because she was so eager to save people, the Buddhist prayer beads in her hand emitted golden light, aiding her arrow.

Now, after the arrow has been fired, it is at its last gasp.

The gap in strength between her and Wu Yuzhi was enormous. The only reason she could barely hold her own against him was because he couldn't kill her.

There's nothing we can do.

We can't just watch Wen Liansong die.

She raised her hand and sent out two spells, one flying towards the magic orb and the other towards Wen Liansong.

"Wen Liansong, wake up!" At this critical moment, the person who had one foot in the grave was still unconscious, and Meng Chiwan couldn't help but feel anxious.

The magic orb collided with the spell, paused for a moment, and then instantly flew towards Wen Liansong. Due to the close distance, it hit Wen Liansong almost instantly.

But Meng Chiwan clearly saw that the moment her magic entered Wen Liansong's body, Wen Liansong opened her eyes!

The magic ball collided with Wen Liansong, sending her flying several meters away. Along with it, the books along the way broke off one by one and took root on the ground in a jumbled mess.

Meng Chiwan felt uneasy and apprehensive. She felt that everything had finally settled down, but she hesitated and fixed her gaze on the figure lying on the ground, motionless and seemingly devoid of any life.

But Wu Yuzhi clearly did not believe that Wen Liansong was still alive. He turned around in an instant, and once again prepared a magic orb in his hand. He smiled at Meng Chiwan, his scarlet eyes seemingly filled with a destructive emotion.

"I'd like to try it too. What's the point of trying to be neither dead nor dying?" Wu Yuzhi chuckled, and the magic orb was released.

Meng Chiwan sensed it almost instantly.

She withdrew her gaze, transforming her bow into a sword once more. She raised her eyes, a single glance seemingly carrying immense power. "Come on." This time, she wouldn't dodge.

The demon's corpse lay behind her. The flowing blood was still warm, and the heavy stench of blood gradually assaulted her mind.

"Lingjiang Palace, is it truly righteous? Are you truly a revered immortal lord?!"

She raised her sword to block the magic orb, using all her strength and mobilizing all the spiritual power in her body, until her depleted spiritual veins still throbbed with pain and began to protest.

Her hands were covered in blood, but she gritted her teeth and, even though her whole body was trembling, she did not loosen her grip on the sword.

“Of course I’m righteous. I cultivate immortality, not demons or monsters. You, an ant with a heart harboring demonic thoughts, dare to question me?” Her hysterical appearance seemed to amuse the boy. Wu Yuzhi chuckled and then teased him.

Compared to her all-out effort, he seemed much more relaxed; he slightly raised his hand and cast another spell.

But he seemed to find it a bit boring, so he drew his sword and delivered a sword incantation.

The sword technique grazed past the magic orb and precisely struck her side.

"Pfft." She cried out in pain, and the force she was using to resist the magic orb inevitably weakened, causing her to spit out a mouthful of blood.

But before she could finish spitting out the blood, the magic orb overpowered her sword and struck her, causing her to bleed several more times.

Pain spread throughout my body, starting from my waist and then my chest...

Her vision began to darken, but her hand gripping the sword remained clenched tightly.

Sixteen years after birth.

Every year I've lived to this point feels like it was stolen.

She had clearly done nothing wrong, yet misfortune befell her one after another. There was no escaping it, no hiding it; it seemed like a curse brought upon her by fate.

She raised her hand with trembling hands and wiped away the dust from her face and the bright red from her lips, bit by bit.

The cloyingly sweet smell of blood assaulted my senses.

In the dim light, Meng Chiwan sensed that Wu Yuzhi was watching her.

"What's this about wanting to die but not being able to?" She smiled, but her cheeks were trembling uncontrollably from the pain.

“Someone like you will never ascend, you will always be a rat crawling in the shadows underground, forever unable to see the light. Your eyes can see nothing but blood and slaughter.” Silence fell, the only sound the wind rustling through the leaves. She spoke each word slowly, spitting out a mouthful of blood with each utterance.

"...You want me to kill you?" Wu Yuzhi paused for a moment, then sneered, "Provocation won't work on me."

Meng Chiwan chuckled upon hearing this, as if she had heard a joke. She slowly repeated, "A provocation..."

"Who is it that's provoking..." she murmured, her voice clearly barely audible, but the smile in her voice didn't diminish in the slightest.

"Why should I... be controlled by someone like you... Why should I die at the hands of someone like you..."

Before me stood a girl with long hair cascading down to her shoulders, her face smeared with dust, and blood still clinging to the corner of her mouth. Yet, her eyes shone with golden light!

The beads of the Buddhist prayer beads in her hand scattered one by one and disappeared into her body! The next moment, a huge lotus flower bloomed on her body!

"You should just die." She opened her eyes and said, word by word, her voice steady, the string of life tightening once again.

Then, as her voice fell, every byte vibrated, forcing Wu Yuzhi to take a few steps back, only managing to stop after hitting half a tree.

He squinted at Meng Chiwan, calming his chaotic spiritual energy.

“Buddhist practice,” he said, as if he had thought of something.

"Do you know that Buddhist monk?" he asked again.

Meng Chiwan didn't want to waste a single word on him, transforming Jinglan into a bow and firing an arrow.

This arrow faintly radiated a Buddhist light!

A long sword was pressed against his throat.

"Unfortunately, I am still alive."

Wu Yuzhi looked over in astonishment and saw that the person holding the sword was Wen Liansong.

Her face was still covered in dirt and blood, and she was still breathing weakly, but somehow, she survived.

Meng Chiwan's pupils widened slightly, clearly she hadn't expected Wen Liansong to actually be alive.

What exactly happened? She was filled with doubt.

As she pierced Wu Yuzhi's heart with her arrow, Wen Liansong also tore through his flesh.

Blood gushed out.

But in the next instant, Wu Yuzhi disappeared from the spot.

Meng Chiwan's pupils widened slightly, and she was somewhat stunned as he disappeared.

But the next moment, she fainted.

In Wen Liansong's eyes, the lotus mark on her body slowly closed and then dissipated.

I woke up again.

Meng Chiwan felt excruciating pain all over her body, as if steel needles were piercing her flesh.

Her face was pale. Then she sat up and looked at Wen Liansong, who also looked unwell.

"How did you survive?" she asked softly.

“A magical artifact. My master left it to me. Jiang Yi thought my master really wanted to kill me.” Wen Liansong answered casually, then became extremely curious about her, “And you, how did you suddenly become so powerful? Do you know that legendary Buddhist cultivator?”

Meng Chiwan remained silent for a moment, then thought carefully before saying, "I don't know either. Perhaps it's because I temporarily formed my core?"

She focused her energy in her dantian, and the newly formed golden core was now radiating abundant spiritual energy, making its presence felt.

“…You mean, temporary Core Formation?” Wen Liansong swallowed hard, then continued, “But that young man clearly didn’t know he was at the Golden Core stage.”

Meng Chiwan fell silent again, began to think carefully, and then said with unusual seriousness, "That means someone is protecting me."

It's nonsensical, utterly nonsensical.

When asked to find the reason, she couldn't.

That's how we finished the fight.

However, it is clear that it is related to the Buddhist monk who once said he would save her.

It really does seem like they're protecting her.

She tried to draw strength again, but no matter what she did, she couldn't recapture the feeling from before. It was as if she had borrowed strength from someone and then quickly returned it.

It came quickly and left quickly, like a dream of fighting monsters.

But Wu Yuzhi... why did he disappear into thin air? Could he have survived?

She pondered, trying to find clues, when she heard Wen Liansong say, "Come quick! Here..."
