Chapter 30. He smiled at her amidst the rain of arrows. ...
"Wen Liansong!" Meng Chiwan shouted, pushing Wen Liansong away while falling backward herself.
Then the spell struck the ground hard, kicking up some dirt that was about to land on Meng Chiwan and Wen Liansong. Fortunately, the demon raised a barrier in time to block it for Meng Chiwan.
But then, the next spell came, leaving no time for anyone to react.
Meng Chiwan spun around and drew her sword, Jinglan, to block the spell. However, she was knocked away and crashed into the tree behind her. The impact shook the tree, causing a shower of leaves to fall.
My vision blurred for a moment, and when I looked up again, three new sword techniques were already in front of me!
She gritted her teeth and raised her sword again, only to see the sword technique dissipate in front of her. Then she reached out and touched the barrier in front of her, and felt the barrier she had felt before.
She turned her head and saw the demon smiling at her again, as if seeking praise. However, his smile stretched to the back of his head, making him look somewhat terrifying.
She gave him a slightly awkward smile, then quickly looked in the direction from which the spell had come.
It was completely empty.
In an instant, a loud impact and scraping sound rang in my ears.
The demon narrowed his eyes slightly and tilted his head, seemingly realizing that things were not so simple.
The air seemed to freeze for a moment, and in the chaos, she finally spotted the culprit.
She knew that outfit all too well. She couldn't even forget that face.
She wore a light blue robe. Her eyebrows were clear and her eyes bright, like warm jade.
Yet this same young man, along with his senior brother, had previously held a sword to her neck under the guise of exorcising evil spirits, but in reality, he was determined to kill Lin Yudong.
Yes. He is one of the two youths from Lingjiang Palace, but for some reason he is alone this time, and we don't know where his senior brother is.
But he drank the wine that made him delusional, and there was still a contract mark in his body...
Logically speaking, he shouldn't remember Meng Chiwan now.
That means he attacked her purely because of the demonic mind within her.
The contract was previously set so that one could not harbor ill will towards Meng Chiwan and Yun Xianqing. Now that he has made a move against her, why hasn't the contract been triggered yet? Could there be some other triggering condition?
Thinking about this, Meng Chiwan suddenly realized belatedly that she had never thought of asking the names of the two boys.
The knuckles passed through the jade ring, the longsword and the bow waxing and waning in turn.
He raised his hand and shot an arrow; the pale blue arrow flew out at lightning speed!
The boy reacted quickly, stepping aside, but he didn't expect that the arrow was never intended to hit him.
The arrow vanished before the barrier, turning into specks of light. Even though the boy retreated quickly, he was still inevitably stained with some of the light.
The chill started at his knuckles and then slowly spread until a layer of frost formed on his hair.
He looked up at Meng Chiwan, his eyes devoid of any warmth. Unlike his previous act of playing the gentleman at the Lin residence, this time he launched a sneak attack without offering any explanation, his move aimed directly at Meng Chiwan.
Meng Chiwan stood there, her robes fluttering in the wind. She narrowed her eyes slightly, scrutinizing him, and then said, "Would you like to see how the contract seal works?"
The boy looked at her warily, a hint of impatience flashing in his eyes, as if he were preparing his next killing move.
"My name is Meng Chiwan." As he cast his next spell, Meng Chiwan dodged it and said simultaneously.
Yes, if she wasn't mistaken, the condition was her name. She wanted him to know that she was Meng Chiwan.
Then the young man's lips curled into a faint smile as he spoke, "I've never heard of it, and I have no need to remember the names of the dead. All I know is that you and she have demonic hearts and are mixed up with the demon race."
"You can try. If you hurt me, will you suffer a thousandfold retribution?" Meng Chiwan said slowly, giving the boy ample time to think.
The boy squinted and stood still.
Meng Chiwan continued, "You are stronger than me, but I am not afraid of you. You can try to see if you can withstand the power of the Earthly Seal."
The boy stopped in his tracks. Then a spell was cast.
Meng Chiwan stood still, showing no intention of dodging.
Then the boy immediately covered his head, knelt on the ground, and felt as if a sharp knife was churning in his mind.
The spell was silently dispelled by the barrier as it approached Meng Chiwan.
The technique itself was not very powerful; it was merely something the young man used to test her. Unfortunately, he didn't know that the key to the seal's effectiveness lay not in whether he made a move, but in whether he harbored any ill will towards Meng Chiwan.
When he learned about Meng Chiwan, the evil thoughts that arose within him were no longer those towards the Demon Heart, but purely towards Meng Chiwan.
"You can't touch me, but I can touch you." Meng Chiwan approached, her longbow transforming into a sword, the tip of which lifted the boy's chin. "Do you want to listen to me?"
She looked at the boy calmly, waiting for his answer.
The boy's pupils turned scarlet, and his whole body trembled as if he were about to explode.
“The dream should end.” He spoke, his voice hoarse and noisy, as if he had mixed the voices of millions of people together.
Meng Chiwan sensed the surge of spiritual power emanating from the boy in an instant. However, calling it spiritual power was somewhat strange, as it seemed to be impure.
But she had no time to think. The boy reached out and grabbed her sword, dragging her towards him little by little, his scarlet eyes seeming to bleed at any moment.
Meng Chiwan released her grip, spun around, and flew to a nearby tree. She tried to summon Jinglan, but Jinglan trembled violently and desperately tried to break free of her restraints, yet she was unable to do so.
Meng Chiwan was a little anxious, but she didn't show it on her face. She just took out several talismans from her waist and sprinkled them on the boy. Instantly, all kinds of spells poured onto the boy as if they were free!
The boy looked up and gave her a strange smile, as if he had found something to enjoy.
“Meng Chiwan…you are Meng Chiwan…” He chewed on each word, then condensed a huge magic orb in his hand and threw it toward the tree where she was!
Meng Chiwan cursed inwardly, still not understanding why he had suddenly become like this, but she didn't have time to think about it, so she could only spin away again.
But the magic orb didn't seem to be as easy to dodge as those sword techniques; it quickly adjusted its direction and changed its position to follow Meng Chiwan's movements!
Meng Chiwan frowned slightly, then dodged again. The trees beside her fell one by one, making loud cracking sounds and hitting the ground.
She carefully observed her surroundings, constantly summoning Jinglan.
The ball grazed her cheek, and she barely managed to dodge it by turning to the side, then patiently searched for an opening.
The next instant, Jinglan returned to her hand. She turned her head and saw that Wen Liansong, who had been standing still, was being carried by the demon and thrown next to the boy. Then, the sword in her hand actually cut off the boy's hand!
The hand fell to the ground, and Jinglan, which had been firmly under control, was released back into Meng Chiwan's hands.
The boy slowly turned his head, his gaze shifting from Wen Liansong to his bloodied and mangled hand.
Wen Liansong's face fell, and she began to tremble.
Meng Chiwan opened her eyes wide, dodged the magic orb, and shouted, "Wen Liansong! Get out of the way!"
The boy's scarlet eyes darted around eerily, his right hand rapidly forming a magic orb, while his severed left hand began to grow a new one, its flesh writhing and slowly regenerating.
Then, the magic ball accurately aimed at Wen Liansong's side!
Wen Liansong instantly turned pale with tension, her lips trembling involuntarily, but she did not sit idly by and wait for death. She ran ahead at lightning speed, and the demon caught her on the side, and then they crashed head-on into the magic orb.
The demon instantly raised a barrier, and the magic orb crashed into it, shattering the barrier in an instant. The orb struck the demon, and blood immediately gushed from its mouth!
The boy stood still, moved his newly healed left hand, turned his eyes, and a strange smile appeared on his lips. The smile seemed both flamboyant and deep.
Meng Chiwan frowned. She had seen this young man before, and he clearly didn't look like this then. Now, even his personality seemed to have changed drastically.
The demon spat out a mouthful of blood and was knocked to the ground. It slowly glanced at Meng Chiwan, muttering something as if it wanted to tell her to leave.
Wen Liansong was violently slammed to the ground and briefly lost consciousness.
Meng Chiwan's tension reached its peak. In a daze, she seemed to see someone glancing at her, but she only kept moving closer to Wen Liansong.
Meng Chiwan clearly saw that the demon pulled Wen Liansong away, but the sword changed direction and pierced the demon's heart.
The demon's body was covered in equally bright red blood, and the large patches of warmth instantly deepened the color of the demon's robes.
The demon glanced at Meng Chiwan hesitantly, seemingly still muttering to herself that she should run away.
Meng Chiwan suddenly realized that every time she met someone, she never remembered to ask their name. Now she wanted to ask, but she couldn't.
The boy's sword churned within the demon's heart. The demon forced back a groan.
Wen Liansong trembled as she got up, pulling at the boy to stop him.
The boy, however, seemed quite pleased with his smiling face, and began to conjure a magic orb in his hand again.
Meng Chiwan drew her bow. Her eyes trembled with reluctance, but her hand holding the bow did not tremble or deviate in the slightest.
Wen Lian Song clung tightly to the boy.
The pale blue arrow pierced through all obstacles, heading straight for the boy's head.
The boy looked up, his scarlet eyes filled with joy. He smiled at Meng Chiwan, then threw a small magic ball to fling Wen Liansong away, and swung the sword in his hand even more forcefully into the Demon Heart.
The demon was still saying: Go quickly.
Meng Chiwan seemed to hear the shouts of "hurry up!" But she smiled gently, placed three fingers on the bowstring, and shot the arrow as if she were risking her life.
Wen Liansong coughed up blood and fainted.
The young man easily deflected all the arrows, then slowly walked towards Wen Liansong, sword in hand. He smiled at her amidst the rain of arrows. Every curve of his smile was like a deadly hook.
