Chapter 6 "Apart from you, I don't know anyone..."
Perhaps the successive misfortunes had left her exhausted and unable to resist, and she appeared even calmer: "I don't understand what the Immortal Lord is saying. If there is anything on me that the Immortal Lord is looking for, it may be something I brought unintentionally. If the Immortal Lord wants it, then please take it. Please explain it more clearly."
The young boy took out an object from his storage bag. At first glance, it looked somewhat like the compass mentioned in the mortal world, but unlike it, the object was crystal clear, as if it were carved from ice.
A pale blue light emanated from it, like smoke and illusion, swirling around her in concentric circles.
Even though she didn't know what it was, she could guess that this was why the two immortal lords had come to find her.
"The Demon-Stabilizing Disc." Seeing her indifference, the young boy beside her explained, "You have the aura of a snow demon on you."
Another boy asked bluntly, "You ate that snow demon's demon core, didn't you?"
It sounded like a question was being asked, but the tone was unquestionable; it was more like a notification than an inquiry.
"I ate it. How was it?" She remained calm, though her palms were slightly damp, and the dark green juice clinging to her body made her even more irritable. "It seems there's no law that says this is forbidden. Immortal Lord, why don't you be more direct?"
“You did nothing wrong. It just so happens that this happened to you. You’re just… a bit unlucky?” The boy looked serious and upright, but a smile appeared on his face, as if he wanted to put her at ease. “The thing we’re looking for is attached to that snow demon. Since you ate its demon core, it has been transferred to you.”
"Girl, don't you really feel anything wrong with yourself?" The young boy beside her asked curiously, his eyes fixed on her with a look of inquiry.
She smiled and completely relaxed: "I think there isn't. If I had to say there is, it's that when I was disciplining my cousin just now, nothing was stopping me."
"I really like this feeling. Maybe that's what you're saying is wrong."
When she attacked Ma Jianshan just now, she felt no pain in her mind, nor did she experience any new discomfort in her body. It was as if those constraints had disappeared overnight.
Meeting the young boy's gaze, she smiled again: "Unfortunately, it has chosen the wrong person; I don't have the power. So, how will you save me, Little Immortal Lord?"
"You didn't come here to kill me, did you?"
Ma Jianshan, who had fallen silent at some point, perhaps because he noticed the presence of two immortal lords, had remained silent until now. However, upon hearing her words, he suddenly shook the young boy's sleeve and shouted, "I knew she was no good! She even tried to kill someone! Immortal Lord, kill her quickly!"
The young boy pulled out his sleeve and tried to soothe them, saying, "Alright, alright, go back to your room. Don't listen to anything else. Besides, who do you take us for, shouting and threatening to kill us?"
As she spoke, she raised her finger and lifted him into the room out of thin air, then casually set up a barrier.
"Young lady, do you know the place where Buddha perished?"
"I know."
"How could such a thing be born there?"
"Because there is both the ultimate good and the ultimate evil."
The image of those golden pupils flashed through Meng Chiwan's mind, but her brain suddenly felt as if it had been struck by something, and a sharp pain shot through her. Then her vision went clouded, as if she had forgotten something, or rather, had never truly seen it before.
"Then how do we get rid of it?" she asked, regaining her composure.
“It cannot be removed. It can only be sealed.” The young boy put away the Demon-Suppressing Disc and sighed. “Or rather, there is only one way to solve it once and for all.”
Meng Chiwan's breath hitched for a moment as she figured out the method.
"You die. Once you're dead, and your body is destroyed, that thing won't be able to live."
"But I don't want to die." Before she could even react, she had already blurted it out.
"So it's just the two of us who came." The young man turned his head and glanced at the light-eyed boy beside him. He felt that the tattoo on his junior brother's forehead was becoming more and more vibrant, just like his state of mind.
“We didn’t report it to our sect. Because my junior brother said you would die. He said he didn’t want you to die, he said it would be like…we killed you.” He continued, his tone heavy, each word carefully chosen.
The young boy with the tattoo on his forehead lowered his head, his shoes constantly kicking up dust and mud, lost in thought.
“My senior brother and I have seen how they were killed, but clearly… death wasn’t their only path. They could be suppressed, sealed… their hearts weren’t just filled with extreme evil, or perhaps extreme good as well. Not everyone can grow to that level… a great demon like Mu Qi hasn’t appeared in thousands of years.” The young boy suddenly spoke up at the end.
“You don’t need to feel too much pressure. You’ve only just reached the Qi Refining stage and don’t have much talent for cultivation. As long as we seal the demonic heart within you, you can still live like an ordinary person. But…” He paused, glanced at his senior brother, and hesitated to speak.
His senior brother immediately chimed in without hesitation: "Your cultivation will dissipate immediately."
As if afraid of hurting her feelings, the young boy added, "But don't worry, you can cultivate again if you lose your cultivation!"
Meng Chiwan lowered her head and chuckled deeply, a laugh that sent shivers down her spine.
That's not how it is. From a mortal to the Qi Refining stage, this seemingly smooth and short journey took her a full eleven years.
When she was five years old, her mother taught her to hold a sword, draw talismans, and guide qi into her body, but she was slow-witted and could not learn it no matter what she tried.
When she was seven, her parents died. In the years that followed, she repeatedly recalled her mother's teachings, trying to complete the process of drawing qi into her body, but she could not do it no matter what she did.
Everyone says she has no affinity with the divine or any innate wisdom.
Now that she has finally embarked on the path to immortality, she will be reduced to her original form in an instant.
But she said, "Okay."
It's just starting over. She's not afraid. She has many, many more decades to come.
This at least proves that she is not entirely without a path to immortality. Since there is still hope, she will not give up.
"That's good! I was worried you wouldn't be willing..." The young man's tone immediately relaxed, "It's just a matter of guiding qi into the body, I believe you'll be able to start over soon!"
She nodded, showing no intention of refuting, and seemed to agree.
When she realized that the spiritual energy in her meridians was being drawn away little by little, she took a deep breath. She didn't know whether the physical pain was more unbearable or the psychological discomfort was more unacceptable to her.
In short, by the end of the sealing process, both boys were soaked in sweat and blood was spilling from the corners of their mouths. The younger boy, in particular, was almost unconscious, but he still managed to reinforce the magic array, slowly driving it into her body.
She sat cross-legged in the middle, trying her best to suppress the pain, listening to the sound of the wind blowing past her ears, and suddenly remembered when she was seven years old, she searched all over the mountains for her mother.
She remembered that it rained heavily that day. So heavily that it threatened to wash her away.
It's okay.
Everything that is gained must be lost.
Until today, until this moment, she finally understands that the rain had never actually stopped.
But the sound of the wind stopped. My veins felt empty.
“We are disciples of the Immortal Alliance. We have planted a Heart Flame within you, so we will know if anything happens to you. If you need any help, you can come to the Immortal Alliance to find us. Just tell us my name, Lin Jinsheng.” The slightly older boy struggled to help her up from the ground, his tone calm, knowing she had suffered, hence his extremely gentle and slow movements.
The other boy, having calmed himself down, said softly, "Young lady, please come looking for us. Judging by your age, perhaps I should call you elder sister. Elder sister, my name is Lin Ruyuan."
"Please keep this a secret, young lady, and never mention the Heart of the Demon to anyone else." Lin Jinsheng bowed to her.
When I returned to the clinic, I saw a handsome young man, with a face as delicate as a bamboo grove, sitting at the clinic counter, listening attentively to what Old Fang was saying, and then slowly picking up the medicine.
He must still be ill, but Old Fang didn't seem to mind.
At this time, five days had passed since she left the clinic, and four days had passed since Lin Jinsheng and his companion found her.
She did not reappear during this period.
The young man must have recognized her. He looked over unconsciously when he saw her in her pale yellow dress, and when he saw her face, he stared at her intently, as if he had been waiting for her for a long time.
As she approached, Dr. Fang remained focused on his treatment, glancing at her only briefly before looking away.
The young man spoke first, his voice warm and gentle, like jade shattering on water: "Thank you for risking your life to save me, young lady. I will repay you."
She looked over and nodded slightly, but her tone was not familiar: "I saved you without expecting anything in return, but since the Immortal Lord's health has improved, then let's take our leave."
The young man smiled faintly, a light mole near his eye appearing slightly. As if he had expected this, he calmly said, "I told you long ago that I would treat you well and repay you."
She gently shook her head: "I don't need it."
But he was still smiling, even though he was sitting behind the counter, he seemed to be bathed in sunlight, his whole being like a ray of warm sunshine.
He said, "That's a bit difficult. I have nowhere to go, and I don't even remember who I am. Apart from you, young lady, I don't know anyone. You are my only hope."
She was taken aback, and then heard the young man's voice continue: "If you don't take me in... my body is not fully recovered yet, and I don't know if it will relapse... perhaps this is my fate. I can't even repay my benefactor."
She looked up and saw that his eyes were light in color, and something seemed to be flowing inside them, but she couldn't see it clearly.
A note from the author:
My daughter is my only solace.
Nobody's here, right? It's okay, it's okay, I'll have fun by myself. [Milk tea emoji]
