Chapter 9 Two Chatterboxes and a Socially Averse Genius

In the virtual battlefield, there are two renowned Black Iron Zone prodigies. They are legendary figures in the Spirit Realm battlefield, yet they never reveal their true identities. Their code names in the battlefield are:

Black Tortoise Guard: Pilots a heavily armored defensive mech, renowned for its superior defense and brutal frontal combat style. He ranks first in the Iron Zone. Shadow Killer: Pilots a lightly armored, stealthy assassination mech, specializing in rapid assaults and precise assassinations. His combat style is cunning and deadly. He ranks second, right behind Black Tortoise Guard.

These two are the best partners and are also the famous "chatty duo" in the Spirit Realm battlefield.

Despite their invincibility on the battlefield, they've long since grown weary of real-life cultivation, devoting almost all of their time to the virtual world. In reality, they're the gifted disciples of a certain physical cultivation sect, about to enter the Golden Core stage. However, they scoff at both physical cultivation and the sect's conventional rules, often uttering the phrase, "Being an elder is too boring. Being a disciple is more comfortable: good food and no worries."

The two enjoyed challenging the strongest, the higher the realm, the better. However, they shared a common grievance: once, in the Spirit Realm battlefield, before its division into battle zones, they were toyed with and defeated by a young Qi Condensation player in a basic mecha, using extremely delicate control. This experience scarred them, but also filled them with deep admiration for the mysterious player. They even added him as a friend, calling him "Zero O'Clock Boss."

What they don’t know is that the “Midnight Boss” they admire is Xiang Fan, an ordinary person who is shy, introverted and not good at speaking in real life.

In the virtual battlefield, a light flickered. As soon as Xiang Fan's basic mecha was loaded, a series of thunder-like sounds rang in his ears.

"Boss Zero! You're finally online!" The Xuanwu Guard's loud voice resonated with a buzzing sound through Xiang Fan's helmet. The heavy armored mech he piloted was like a bear, bounding towards Fan's mech. His clumsy movements didn't dampen his enthusiasm in the slightest. "Quick, help me check my defensive stance! I think there's definitely something wrong with my spiritual energy distribution!"

"Boss, don't listen to his nonsense!" Shadow Killer's voice followed closely, as frivolous as ever. His lightly armored mech slid forward like a puff of black mist, charging towards Xiang Fan. His tone was filled with impatience, "Help me show you how smooth my assassination charge is! The moves you taught me last time were too difficult. I practiced for a long time and still felt stuck. Can you teach me a few more tricks? Oh, and I brought a thank-you gift this time!"

Xiang Fan's mech had barely stabilized, the screen still beeping as the final connection prompts were loading, when the chatterboxes of these two men filled his ears, nearly exploding. The Black Tortoise Guard's voice was like a deafening drumbeat, while the Shadow Killer's was like a tireless venomous tongue. The two of them exchanged words, vying for Xiang Fan's attention.

Xiang Fan took a deep breath, pinched his brows, and suppressed the urge to quit the game. He spoke in as calm a tone as possible, "Can you two be quiet? I just logged in."

"How can we be quiet, Boss!" The Black Tortoise Guard's mecha stomped its feet, its metal body making a dull "thump thump" sound. "Yesterday I met a Jindan-stage mecha master. He beat me so hard that I lay on the ground and scratched the wall! If it weren't for my mecha's thick skin, I might have died! You have to help me, or I'll lose my reputation as a Black Tortoise Guard!"

"Boss, don't listen to his nonsense!" The Shadow Killer's mecha flashed to the side of the Black Tortoise Guard like a black shadow, and said sarcastically, "His defensive style is like that of an iron turtle. He still wants to fight against a Jindan stage. How can he not get beaten? Just help me, boss. I have prepared a thank you gift! Spirit ore or data files, it's up to you!"

Xiang Fan's helmet was practically a battlefield. They were shouting, fighting, and the sounds intertwined, piercing his eardrums. He sighed, operating his basic mecha, and coldly said, "I won't help."

"Stop it, Boss!" The Black Tortoise Guard strode after him, his heavy armored mecha roaring and pressing down like a mountain. "Boss, you're my idol! Without you, I wouldn't even be able to reach the Bronze Zone!"

"Even an idol wouldn't want to help a reckless man." The Shadow Killer sneered, and the mecha suddenly rushed forward, blocking the Xuanwu Guard and Xiang Fan. "Boss, since we have a connection, please help me! Just teach me a trick, even if it's just basic mecha skills, and I'll be satisfied!"

Xiang Fan said nothing as he piloted his mech straight towards the training grounds. The Black Tortoise Guard and Shadow Killer mechs swarmed around him, one on each side, trying to attract his attention.

"Boss!" the Black Tortoise Guard suddenly said in a tragic tone, "If you don't help me, I might be nailed to the pillar of shame as the 'Shame of the Black Iron District' for the rest of my life! Can you bear it?"

"A pillar of shame? Just that tortoise shell of yours? Don't worry, no one will remember you!" Shadow Killer attacked without mercy. "Boss, ignore him now. Help me teach him a few more moves. I'll immediately post a message throughout the Spirit Realm praising you as the strongest mecha master!"

Xiang Fan finally stopped, and the heavy and light mechas also stopped, looking at him expectantly. He turned his head and said in a calm voice with a hint of impatience: "If either of you say another word, I will block you."

"..." The two fell silent instantly, and the virtual battlefield suddenly fell into silence.

The Shadow Killer naturally wouldn't give up easily. He spun his light mech around, quickly blocking Xiang Fan's way and saying in his snarky voice, "Boss, don't be so cold... This time, I brought a truly sincere thank-you gift!"
