Chapter 17 The Child Who Died

Nangong Zixin held her breath, staring intently at her, as if she wanted to bore a hole through her. "She's good in that state, but what good is it if she can't protect herself and her child?"

The past is always unbearable to recall; every time I think of it, it brings pain.

"You've achieved what you wanted." No matter how good things were in the past, they're all just memories now. It took a long time for the atmosphere in the meeting room to slowly dissipate.

He Sao, who had always had doubts in her heart, came to the unit where Shen Shiyi was stationed again.

She found her child and inquired about Shen Shiyi: "Fengwazi, Mom wants to ask you, is that female leader here? I want to find out some things from her."

Nangong Zi walked towards them absentmindedly and accidentally bumped into Aunt He, who had just stood up.

Aunt He felt she had bumped into someone and immediately apologized. "I'm so sorry, so sorry..." Looking up, she was startled—wasn't this Miss Nangong Zixin?

She tentatively began, "Miss Nangong." Her fingers fidgeted awkwardly.

Nangong Zixin steadied herself and looked at the person who had supported her. "Who are you?"

Aunt He began to explain, "Ah, I used to be a maid in Li Xinye's household." "Miss Nangong hates the Li family the most, and of all times, she ran into them."

Nangong Zixin was taken aback: The Li family? The Li family is the one I hate the most.

He wouldn't even give her a second glance, asking indifferently, "Uh, what are you doing here?" "This is a military area. How did unauthorized personnel get in?"

Aunt He was taken aback, and quickly explained, "Um, this is my son. He's been in the army for a few years. I'm here to visit him."

Looking at the woman in front of her, Mrs. He couldn't help but sigh: "Alas, if the young mistress had asked her for help back then, would things have been different? Unfortunately, there's no going back in life."

Knowing the purpose of her visit, she hesitated, wondering whether to ask or not, "Um, Miss Nangong..."

Nangong Zixin frowned, watching her stammer. "What is it? I don't like people who drag their feet." "My time is precious."

Upon hearing this, Aunt He immediately spoke up, "I just wanted to ask about my young mistress." "Sigh, the aura of children from wealthy families is just different."

Nangong Zixin was taken aback. "Young Madam?" "Where have I seen her before?"

Suddenly she remembered, "Are you Aunt He?" "I think that's your name." Aunt He nodded excitedly when she realized that she remembered her.

Nangong Zixin looked up at her and said, "Go find Chen Shiyi."

Aunt He was shocked: What? The young mistress really is Commander Shen. But after thinking it over, how could such a frail person like the young mistress have joined the army? What exactly happened?

At the hospital, Mr. Li was rushed to the emergency room, his life hanging in the balance. Mrs. Li looked extremely anxious. "This unfilial son, is he determined to destroy our Li family?"

Li Xinye kicked the door of the intensive care unit open with a loud thud, and Mo Xuerong was shocked to see him. She had a bad feeling; things were about to change.

Li Xinye roared angrily, "Mo Xuerong, you bitch, you actually cheated on me with a green hat!" In his rage and loss of control, Li Xinye viciously pinched the woman in front of him.

His bloodthirsty eyes fixed on the pale, terrified woman. "Heh heh, six or seven years, you really managed to keep it a secret for a long time."

The little one in the ward was immediately frightened and burst into tears, "Ahhh, waaaaaah!" Mo Xuerong was Li Yizhi's daughter. Mo Xuerong had entered the Li family through her son, but was later abandoned by Li Xinye and expelled from the wealthy family.

Mo Xuerong looked at her former husband, the man she had loved her whole life, with horror. "Xinye, let me go!"

If you keep pinching her, she'll die; she doesn't want to die.

Consumed by rage, Li Xinye wouldn't listen to a word. "You bitch, you cheated on me and gave me a bastard child! Hahaha, what do you take me for, Li Xinye? Huh?"

Li Xinye wouldn't listen to a word she said. "If it weren't for the fact that the child in your belly, Bing'er, is already six years old—my son and daughter, a daughter as beautiful as Bing'er—it would all be because of you, you wretched woman. Yes, I'll make you wish you were dead." He tightened his grip, thinking, "Hmph, I'll personally send you to hell."

Hearing the commotion, doctors and nurses rushed over and quickly pulled him away and called the police. Mo Xuerong was so agitated that she fainted and was taken to the emergency room for treatment.

When Aunt He and Nangong Zixin arrived at the army canteen, Shen Shiyi was already eating, but it was always vegetarian food in front of her; she had stopped eating meat five years ago. She looked like a nun or someone observing a fast.

Aunt He spotted her immediately in the crowd, perhaps because of her overwhelming presence. "Young Madam, is it really you?"

Is this a blessing from heaven? Almost six years have passed, and fate has ultimately been kind to everyone. Shen Shiyi's expression remained largely unchanged, just like before.

When Mrs. He saw the two children eating, she was finally overcome with emotion and tears streamed down her face. "Young Madam, are these the young master and young lady? They are so handsome!" It's true what they say, when God closes a door, he opens a window.

Shen Shiyi stood up, looked at Aunt He, then at the two children, and said something shocking without any expression.

It died young.

When Aunt He, who was overjoyed and weeping, heard the news, she visibly trembled. She looked at her young mistress in disbelief, her lips trembling.

"Young...Young Madam, what nonsense are you talking about? Aren't they right here?" Please don't let it be what she's thinking.

Shen Shiyi shook her head. "I am not their biological mother."

Hearing this, Aunt He was so frightened she could hardly stand. "Young Madam, are you serious? That child didn't survive?" "No, no, how could God be so cruel?"
