Chapter 15 Making an Appointment for Your First Boyfriend After Graduation
Xu Qingmin pulled Song Yilin to a secluded corner.
He looked at her with eyes that burned like fire: "You said you didn't want to date during high school, and I respect that. But I want to grow together with you, and I will continue to tutor you. However, I hope you will allow me to pursue you after we graduate from high school."
Song Yilin's heart was pounding, and she couldn't speak.
Xu Qingmin pinched her chin with his thumb and forefinger and said, "It's a deal."
Song Yilin nodded mechanically.
Xu Qingmin's smile widened: "Let's go back to class, my study partner."
From then on, Xu Qingmin started calling Song Yilin "Yilin" in class. This one name led everyone to assume what their relationship was, and the class monitor and Xu Qingmin had a falling out.
After the falling out, Song Yilin found out about the love letter. It turned out it wasn't from Xu Qingmin, but from the class monitor. She had even rejected Xu Qingmin once.
Xu Qingmin never cared about other people's opinions. He did whatever he wanted. After their relationship became more open, Xu Qingmin stopped asking Song Yilin to go up to the roof. Instead, he explained problems to Song Yilin directly in the classroom, and other students who needed help could occasionally benefit from it.
He would bring Song Yilin breakfast in the morning, and Xu Qingmin would sit at the same table with Song Yilin for lunch.
Xu Qingmin saw that Song Yilin's food included some of his favorite dishes, so he reached out with his chopsticks and picked them up.
Song Yilin looked at Xu Qingmin's actions and asked curiously, "Aren't you a germaphobe? Why are you eating my food?"
Xu Qingmin: "Who told you I have OCD?"
Song Yilin: "You wipe your hands with wet wipes every day, and you don't eat or drink anything."
Xu Qingmin: "I'm not a germaphobe, I just find things dirty."
Song Yilin pouted, "You're just being dramatic; you've never experienced hardship."
Where Song Yilin goes during get out of class and where Xu Qingmin goes after class.
Many seventeen or eighteen-year-olds fall in love early, but they usually do it secretly. Teachers know that early love is human nature, and they generally won't interfere if it's not too high-profile. But Xu Qingmin seemed afraid that others wouldn't know that Song Yilin was his future girlfriend, so he was always sticking to her, and Song Yilin couldn't get rid of him no matter what.
The teacher warned him to be mindful of the consequences, but Xu Qingmin said that they were not dating, just a little close, and had agreed to wait until they reached the legal age to start dating, so there was no need to be secretive. He added that even if he was dating, his grades hadn't dropped, so he asked the teacher not to meddle.
The teacher was furious and called in Song Yilin and Xu Qingmin's parents.
But Ms. Meng, Song Yilin's mother, knew all too well that Song Yilin was too timid to date early. She directly told the teacher, "My child is good-looking, but she is honest. I believe my child will not date early. The little boy will eventually stop pursuing her."
One sentence shut the teacher up, and he wouldn't even come to school.
Xu Qingmin's mother did come to the school. When Xu Qingmin heard that his mother was here, he wanted to drag Song Yilin to meet her, saying that the ugly daughter-in-law would have to meet her in-laws sooner or later. Song Yilin was so scared that she hid in the girls' restroom and wouldn't come out no matter how much they called her.
However, when Xu Qingmin's mother came to the school, she only asked about Xu Qingmin's studies and didn't say a word about his early romance.
Teachers feel they can't control the situation, so they gradually become indifferent and pretend they don't see it.
When Xu Qingmin plays basketball, he asks Song Yilin to bring him water. He will openly drink from the same bottle of water as Song Yilin on the court, and they will celebrate enthusiastically together when they win a game.
When Xu Qingmin and Gu Sinan, his childhood friends, get together, they always bring Song Yilin along.
However, Xu Qingmin respected her decision not to date in high school, and they kept things brief and to the point.
After the college entrance examination, she and Xu Qingmin got together naturally without any special ceremony or confession.
They lingered together for a long time.
The day before the results were announced.
Mom was packing her luggage in the living room.
"Your father and I are divorced. Your mother's job has been transferred to Yishi. You are an adult now, and our divorce does not involve your custody. You can live with whomever you want. Your father and I will transfer the house to you. Your mother will continue to support your living expenses during university, and your father will also provide for you. Do you want to go to Yishi with your mother or stay in Jianghai City?"
Song Yilin knew that her mother and father had a bad relationship, but they didn't have any major conflicts. Song Yilin couldn't understand why they divorced.
"Mom, why did you divorce Dad?"
Mom put down her luggage and said, "Your father isn't a bad person, but he's not a good husband. I also work, and I earn the same amount as your father, but I do all the housework and help you with your homework. I also have to take care of your grandparents. I'm willing to do this so that you can have a hot meal when you come home, but I don't want to take care of your grandparents and your father anymore. You're all grown up now, and one day you'll understand what your mother is saying."
Growing up seems to happen in an instant. Before today, she was still looking forward to love, but today she suddenly saw many things clearly.
Song Yilin vaguely understood why her mother divorced. Her father loved her mother, and she believed that her mother had loved her father when she was young, but the trials of life had worn away her girlish heart.
Just like her and Xu Qingmin, Xu Qingmin loved her very much, but many times, he didn't seem to calm down and listen to what she wanted.
Xu Qingmin was too proud, so proud that he often thought that Song Yilin would like everything he did.
She didn't seem sad about her parents' divorce, and she was happy for her mother when she saw her mother's relaxed expression.
Before the college entrance examination, she and Xu Qingmin made a promise to apply to the same university.
On the day the results were announced, she asked Xu Qingmin about his score. When Xu Qingmin asked her how many points she got, she said she only scored 10 points less than him. Xu Qingmin excitedly picked up Song Yilin and shouted, "We can apply to the same school now!"
In reality, her actual score was 60 points lower than Xu Qingmin's. This gap was reduced after Xu Qingmin reviewed for her every day. Otherwise, the gap would have been much larger. Xu Qingmin was a natural academic genius. How could he possibly catch up with her by cramming for a year?
She didn't dare reveal her true score. If she did, Xu Qingmin would definitely apply to the same school as her with a much higher score. She didn't want to drag Xu Qingmin down. Xu Qingmin's family was rich and he had the means to be capricious, but she didn't. Her love alone wasn't enough to support such a huge sacrifice from Xu Qingmin.
She doesn't like to trouble others, and she especially doesn't like to owe others anything, no matter who that person is.
The day the acceptance letter arrived, Xu Qingmin, with tears in his eyes, questioned her, "Why did you lie to me?"
Song Yilin dared not look at Xu Qingmin, and her voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzz.
“My parents are divorced. I want to go to Yishi with my mom. I’m sorry, but your university is only a three-hour drive from Yishi. I will definitely visit you often in the future.”
Although Xu Qingmin was very angry, he still hugged Song Yilin tightly.
Xu Qingmin never wanted to put Song Yilin in a difficult position, nor did he want her to be sad.
After the start of the school year, Song Yilin did not live in the school dormitory, but lived with her mother. She got out of school early and cooked when she got home. Those days were the happiest days for her mother. Finally, her mother did not have to worry about her grandparents and father's affairs, and could focus on making money.
