Chapter 16 Meeting Her Future Husband in Another City
The first day of university in Yilan City.
On her first day of school, Song Yilin unexpectedly ran into Bai Ye. In Jianghai City, their two families lived across the street from each other, but in Yishi, her mother's rented apartment was actually upstairs and downstairs from Bai Ye's.
"Brother Ye, do you work in Yishi?"
Bai Ye is seven years older than her and has been out of school for a few years. Her mother told her that he and his friends have started a design studio. Whenever her mother mentions him, she always says that Bai Ye is such a good child, filial and sensible, with a gentle and refined appearance and good grades. He is simply the model of someone else's child.
Bai Ye was older than her. Although they lived across the hall from each other, they didn't have much interaction in their lives. Bai Ye was a very refined person, gave people a kind feeling, and had a good relationship with everyone.
Song Yilin and he were only nodding acquaintances when they met.
"What's that little girl doing here? She's grown so much!"
Since Bai Ye went to university, he hadn't seen Song Yilin for many years and almost didn't recognize her at first glance.
The little girl I remembered had suddenly grown up, and I was a little stunned. It felt like a daughter of the Song family had come of age.
"Little girl, you look so dashing in that military uniform."
This was the first time Bai Ye had praised Song Yilin in an adult's tone.
Perhaps Bai Ye himself didn't realize that from this moment on, he had begun to regard Song Yilin as an adult woman.
After the freshmen military training ended, Xu Qingmin came to Yishi to see her for the first time.
He brought his high-profile dating habits from Jianghai City to Yishi City. Everyone thought that Xu Qingmin would go out with Song Yilin when he came to Yishi City, but Xu Qingmin went directly to the downstairs of Song Yilin's house.
Song Yilin looked around but didn't see her mother before going downstairs.
Fortunately, besides Bai Ye, there weren't many familiar people in Yishi.
Xu Qingmin's first words to her were: "Aren't you going to invite me up for a bit?"
Song Yilin immediately pulled Xu Qingmin to a corner: "Keep your voice down."
Xu Qingmin's lips curled up: "You're an adult now, why are you still like you were in high school? No one will care if you date now, maybe your mom will be happy that I came to see you."
That's what she said, but Song Yilin still didn't dare to tell her mother about Xu Qingmin.
Xu Qingmin looked at Song Yilin holding her hand: "But you've grown up, so you've become quite bold, daring to take my hand on your own initiative."
Song Yilin immediately let go of Xu Qingmin's hand, and Xu Qingmin immediately squeezed her hand back, pulled her into his arms, and whispered in her ear, "When will you let me kiss you?"
Song Yilin felt as if her skull had been opened, and she stared wide-eyed at Xu Qingmin.
Xu Qingmin was even happier to see Song Yilin's reaction, and he kissed her head with his right hand.
Song Yilin's mind went blank, her nasal cavity filled with Xu Qingmin's breath.
Xu Qingmin released Song Yilin after only a moment: "Next time you kiss, remember to breathe properly, don't suffocate yourself."
After catching her breath, Song Yilin glared at Xu Qingmin: "How could you kiss me before I even agreed?"
Xu Qingmin's smile seemed to encompass the whole world, his eyes bright as if they held stars: "Because from your reaction, I can tell you like me and are willing, so I don't need you to say whether you're willing or not. However, one day when I want you, I will definitely ask you if you agree, because if you don't agree, then I'll be committing rape."
One sentence made Song Yilin's face and ears burn bright red.
He stammered and couldn't get a word out for a long time.
Xu Qingmin found Song Yilin, whose face was flushed red to her neck, particularly adorable. He rubbed her head and said, "Don't worry, I can't bear to hurt you. This kiss is to make up for the longing I've felt during this time."
They hadn't seen each other for half a month. Not only did Xu Qingmin miss her, but whenever she saw something interesting, she would also think, "If only Xu Qingmin were here at that moment."
During their university years together, she never visited Xu Qingmin's university, while Xu Qingmin, like a husband who commuted every week, would come to her city almost every week.
Even Song Yilin's mother knew Xu Qingmin. At first, she just greeted Xu Qingmin, but later she would invite him up whenever she saw him.
Xu Qingmin, like a son-in-law who has not yet married into the family, is now free to come and go from Song Yilin's house.
Even though they were a couple who saw each other several times a month, and Xu Qingmin made the whole world know that Song Yilin had him as her boyfriend, there were still some men who intentionally or unintentionally fawned over Song Yilin.
Song Yilin is approachable to everyone, and the long-distance relationship makes Xu Qingmin feel even more insecure.
They are very loving when they are in love, but they can't help but quarrel over some small things.
Xu Qingmin hoped that Song Yilin should keep her distance from all men. Song Yilin felt that she should have her own social life. She had not wronged Xu Qingmin and treated everyone equally, without getting too close to anyone.
At first, Xu Qingmin was just a little jealous, but later, when Song Yilin smiled and greeted her classmates, Xu Qingmin felt uncomfortable.
Song Yilin's major requires group assignments, and the group includes both men and women, so they spend a lot of time together. Xu Qingmin has argued with Song Yilin many times because of this.
Ultimately, it was the wrong time for the two to get together. They met when they were most in love, but also when they were most immature. Song Yilin didn't understand what it meant for a man to look at a pretty girl like her, while Xu Qingmin didn't know how to give Song Yilin a comfortable way to interact with him.
No matter how much they argued, two people in love could always make up, until Ms. Xu appeared.
During the summer vacation of their junior year, Xu Qingmin and Song Yilin made a promise to go back to Jianghai City for the summer vacation.
Song Yilin, who was living alone at home, welcomed her second guest besides Xu Qingmin since she started living alone.
Perhaps it was her son's unusual behavior over the past few years that made Ms. Xu unable to bear it any longer.
When Song Yilin opened the door and saw Ms. Xu, who was dressed in an elegant manner, she could roughly guess who the visitor was.
Her words confirmed Song Yilin's idea: "I am Xu Qingmin's mother, and my surname is Xu."
Song Yilin, at a loss for words, stepped aside to let Ms. Xu in: "Hello, Aunt Xu, please come in and sit down."
The house had been uninhabited for years, and there was nothing to offer guests. Song Yilin fumbled around for a while before pouring Ms. Xu a glass of warm water.
"I already know about your relationship with my son, but I'm not here today to advise you to break up. Don't worry, I won't be the one to break you up."
Just as Song Yilin breathed a sigh of relief, Ms. Xu changed the subject: "However, you are not young, but not old either. There are some things you should consider."
The summer heat in Jianghai City is oppressive; even in air-conditioned rooms, it feels sticky and uncomfortable.
Ms. Xu put down her leather bag. Despite the hot weather and her parched throat, she showed no intention of drinking the water on the coffee table.
It seemed as if Song Yilin's house was a slum, making this wealthy woman particularly uneasy.
It seemed like she even disliked the sofa on her bottom, but had no choice but to sit on it; the sofa only took up a third of her bottom.
