Chapter 6 A Day in the Micro World

Walking along the lake made it easier to find food, and in just over half an hour, Chen Yang found a fruit tree.

This time he recognized it; it was a wild kiwi tree. At least he was certain it was edible.

"At least there are plants I can recognize, so I don't have to worry about getting a stomachache from eating them."

Chen Yang picked one to try; it was very sweet, indicating it was a ripe kiwi.

He's giving up on hunting for now; those animals are all incredibly cunning. Once he's made a fire, he might consider trying to catch a few rabbits. He'll learn how to make traps in a few days.

Now his only hope is the fish; he just saw a large group of fish swimming at the bottom of the lake, seemingly challenging him.

"Wait, wait until I start the fire, I want to eat grilled fish!"

He was increasingly aware of the importance of fire; no wonder the Microverse had given him the task of creating fire at the very beginning. Now he faced a lake, but could only watch it with thirst, because he had no way to boil the water to kill the bacteria.

The lake water appears clear, but it teems with countless creatures, and there's also a considerable amount of animal waste around it. Unless he's extremely thirsty, he wouldn't consider drinking untreated water.

Fortunately, kiwifruit is quite juicy, which will allow him to last a little longer.

"We need to start a fire. The kiwi fruit has given me a lot of energy. Let's get the fire going now."

With the Tenacious Blade in hand, Chen Yang's efficiency in starting a fire would be much higher. He decided to give up looking for food for the time being, since many foods require fire to be eaten, so starting a fire would be his priority.

"Plans can never keep up with changes. You don't know how important fire is until you're out in the wild."

His newly acquired fire-making skills are now going to come in handy.

The sharpness of the tenacious blade was no joke; it quickly whittled out a wooden drill, and tinder and dry wood were also found. A bent, strong branch was used to make a bow, and then all that was left was the string.

The material for the rope was hard to find; there were no suitable vines around, so he could only use tree bark. Some tree bark could be simply twisted to make a rope.

Of course, only some trees were suitable; not all tree bark met the requirements. Chen Yang searched for over an hour before finding suitable bark, during which time he stripped eight poor trees of their bark.

The preparation work alone took him two hours, and the work that followed would only be more difficult.

After making all the preparations, Chen Yang began to start a fire by rubbing sticks together.

Hook the bowstring around the drill bit and hold a stone against the end to apply more pressure and create friction, while also protecting his hand.

Once the wooden drill starts spinning, he can't hold it unless his hands are made of stone.

"One, two, one, two, one, the whole nation is smiling, one, two, one, two, every household is eating chicken!"

As Chen Yang drew his bow, he shouted slogans, while Ou Huang cheered him on in a childish voice.

Unfortunately, the wooden drill slipped out of my hand after only a few pulls and was difficult to hold in place.

Chen Yang tried again, and this time it was slightly better; he managed to release the wood just as it started to smoke.

After five times... Chen Yang felt like his hand was going to break.

After ten times... he felt nothing anymore.

He now deeply realized that those who could start a fire by rubbing a wooden drill with their bare hands were truly amazing people, and incredibly amazing ones at that.

"Zhurong! Apollo! Prometheus! Sun! Grant me the divine flame!"

The wooden drill spun rapidly, wisps of smoke rising from it. Seeing this, Chen Yang pulled even harder, his hand speed, honed over years of solitude, was put to its fullest potential.

"I've got it! Burning ash!"

Chen Yang was extremely excited. He carefully poured the burning embers into the fire starter ball made of dry grass, lifted it up as if it were a sacred object, and then blew on it continuously.

"Don't let it die! Don't let it die! Damn it!"

The last bit of fuel he had managed to get went out, and he could only...

About two hours later...

A tiny flame emerged from the hay ball, quickly igniting the hay, and the flames burned even more fiercely upon contact with the air.

"Cool!"

Chen Yang quickly put down the fireball in his hand and piled up the small wooden branches he had prepared beforehand, and the flame burned steadily.

He was incredibly excited at that moment, never imagining that he could feel such joy because of a cluster of flames.

"ah!"

He shouted happily, as if he wanted to vent all the frustration that had been building up in his heart for years.

Since graduating from university, Chen Yang's life seems carefree. He has no worries about food or clothing, a stable income, and savings. He travels every month and enjoys eating, drinking, and having fun.

Only Chen Yang knew how boring this kind of life was, and ever since his failure in college, he had never found anything that truly excited him.

The preparations for the inn were merely to add a little more hope to his boring life, allowing him to pour his energy into it.

But now, just a cluster of flames can make him cheer like this; it's been such a long time since I've felt this way.

After venting his anger, Chen Yang sat by the fire and began to think about his next move.

The most important things right now are water and food. And to have access to healthy drinking water, a container for boiling water is essential. We should first figure out how to make a container.

He had just spotted a plant in the distance that could be used as a water-boiling container, which would be perfect for his current situation.

bamboo.

Bamboo is an incredibly versatile tool for wilderness survival. Its hollow structure makes it a perfect container for boiling and holding water. It's also a great choice for starting a fire.

However, for Chen Yang, it was still more convenient to start a fire with wood.

After making sure there was enough firewood to burn, Chen Yang set off for the bamboo forest several kilometers away, which he had just spotted from the lake.

"I hope there will be bamboo shoots."

Although he said that, Chen Yang didn't have much hope.

To avoid letting his tender feet be pampered by the ground again, he had just made a pair of simple slippers out of tree bark, which made him move much faster.

After trekking for more than an hour under the scorching sun, Chen Yang finally arrived at the bamboo forest.

He searched and found no bamboo shoots, but unexpectedly discovered a stream. This made him regret his decision not to move the fire.

He hadn't wanted his campsite to be too far from the cabin, so he hadn't moved the fire, but now it seemed like a mistake.

This place could have been used as a temporary camp.

The stream water was so clear that it was even drinkable, but just to be on the safe side, he still had to boil it, since there was no way to tell if there were any animal carcasses or droppings upstream.

Moreover, there were fish in the stream. Chen Yang even found a fish trapped in a small puddle, only the size of a loach, but it was better than nothing.

He cut off a section of bamboo, put the fish inside, and then Chen Yang carried a bamboo pole as tall as a person back home, along with two bamboo tubes of stream water.

It was a difficult journey; he had to drag a bamboo pole, carry a bamboo tube, and walk back with the Emperor.

Chen Yang was sweating profusely and was extremely thirsty on the way, so he risked drinking two mouthfuls of the unboiled and purified stream water, hoping it wouldn't give him diarrhea.

As dusk began to fall, he finally returned to where he had started the fire. The flames had dwindled, but were still burning. He just needed to add more firewood.

Depend on!

Chen Yang discovered that half of his kiwifruit was missing, which must have been stolen by some animal.

"I'll catch you barbecuing sooner or later!" it muttered to itself.

Under the heat of the flames, the water inside the bamboo tube quickly boiled. And the small fish was cooked.

"This is probably the most tasteless fish soup I've ever had."

Despite saying that, Chen Yang still ate every last bit of fish and drank every last drop of the fish soup. Then he ate some strawberries and kiwis.

This made him feel incredibly satisfied and relaxed, both physically and mentally.

After dinner, he sat by the fire, leisurely watching the sunset, with the European Emperor lying in his arms.

The lucky one just ate a little bit of fish, but luckily he doesn't have a big appetite.

Chen Yang had no intention of staying overnight in the micro-world; being completely naked, he couldn't keep warm with just the flames.

While there was still some light, he set up a simple fishing trap on a small shallow beach by the lake.

Arrange stones in an inverted V shape, with the larger opening facing the lake and the smaller opening in the shallow water. This way, fish that swim in will have a harder time swimming out.

Fish have limited intelligence, so this simple trap is very effective. He'd seen this trick used by a survival expert named Ed Stafford, one of his favorites.

Because he often starts out completely naked when filming survival shows, it's very informative.

Throw in the entrails and scraps of that little fish, hoping to attract other fish.

After adding more firewood to the fire, Chen Yang exited the micro-world.
