The cabin was deathly silent; the stifling air made it hard to breathe. The lingering effects of the battle still hung in the air.
The firelight illuminated the bloodstains on the floor. The hungry wolf had stopped convulsing; its soul had been taken away by death.
It wasn't until a bolt of lightning ripped through the sky and light shone through the window into the small house that everyone snapped back to reality, their hearts pounding and their breathing heavy.
"Is everyone alright?"
Chen Yang asked.
"The Emperor of Luck is injured." Jiang Yining walked to the Emperor of Luck's side with heartache and stroked the Emperor of Luck's head.
If she hadn't been incredibly lucky, she might have been bitten by that wolf. It wouldn't have killed her, but it would definitely have been a lingering shadow in her life.
"It was my oversight. I didn't expect the wolves to attack in this kind of weather," Chen Yang said with some self-reproach.
The wolves had stopped ramming the cabin, but the occasional howls proved they were still lurking around, and the group was trapped, surrounded by the wolves.
Chen Yang checked on the injured man and found that he only had a few abrasions on his leg, which he guessed were from being scratched during the hand-to-hand combat with the hungry wolf. It was nothing serious.
"Little guy, you did a great job. I'll reward you properly once this crisis is over."
Chen Yang stroked the European Emperor, who squinted his eyes, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Ye Wu stood by the window and glanced around for a few moments. He said with a heavy heart, "The wolf pack is still surrounding us. They're hiding under our awning and eaves."
"Let's leave now and discuss this again tomorrow. Everyone, please choose to stay asleep. Get some rest, and we'll talk again tomorrow," Chen Yang said.
If no one chooses to remain asleep and exit, then no one present will be able to fall asleep.
They'd been living too comfortably in the micro-realm, this was the first time they'd encountered such a life-or-death struggle. Right now, forcing themselves to sleep was the best course of action; they could discuss countermeasures the next day when they were calmer.
The group exchanged glances, then silently clicked "exit".
Chen Yang appeared to have clicked "exit," but he didn't actually click it. After everyone else clicked "exit," he waited silently for a while.
As expected, their physical bodies in the micro-world didn't disappear; only their consciousness returned. Just as the mission instructions stated, there was a one-hour delay.
Chen Yang glanced at the wolf pack through the window, then used his hands to collect the rainwater dripping from the eaves using the few earthenware jars that were the only ones in the house.
Seeing his hand sticking out the window, the wolves immediately became alert and stared at Chen Yang. Chen Yang met their gaze without flinching.
The window was high enough that he needed to stand on a small chair to stick his hand out, so the wolves couldn't jump up and he could safely collect water.
Several wolves tried to jump up and bite, but they were always 40 or 50 centimeters short.
Chen Yang silently filled all the earthenware jars with water.
The rest of the earthenware jars were used to collect rainwater, and they couldn't go out to get more, so he had to have some stored. If the rain stopped tomorrow and they ran out of water, it would be troublesome. His only option was to stay in the micro-realm and wait silently for the wolves to retreat.
After collecting the water, Chen Yang checked the food, water, and timber reserves before leaving the micro-world.
The next morning, everyone got up early, and Guo Zifeng also drove over. The six of them sat around the tea table to discuss their strategy, while the lucky one happily gnawed on the big bone that was a reward for him.
"If it doesn't rain, our water will run out in three days at the earliest. We don't have to worry about food because we still have one wolf to eat, and we have enough wood if we conserve it," Chen Yang told everyone about the current situation.
"Now, I'd like to ask everyone what their thoughts are on this wolf attack."
"Fight back!" Ye Wu said fiercely. He was ashamed that he hadn't been able to react at all to last night's attack, even Li Su'er had fired an arrow at him.
"Raise your hand if you support a counterattack."
Everyone raised their hands without hesitation. Chen Yang smiled and raised his hand as well.
“How can humans lose to beasts?” Guo Zifeng laughed.
“That’s right!” Wang Bing said, tapping the table.
Since we're going to retaliate, we definitely need to come up with a strategy.
The wolf pack numbered around thirty, and the six of them had no hope of defeating them head-on; killing them all was even more unrealistic. The best approach was to kill some of them to scare away the rest.
Human intelligence is beyond the reach of animals, and their current situation is not dire; they have weapons and food.
They quickly devised a countermeasure, and now they actually hoped the wolves would stay so they could carry out their hunting plan.
In reality, they would never hunt wolves like this, because wolves are protected animals. However, in the microverse, they are simply members of nature, subject to the law of the jungle—it's perfectly normal. Who would blame humans for hunting animals in ancient times?
After the discussion ended, Ye Wu's phone suddenly rang. He looked at the number displayed on the phone with a surprised expression, glanced at Chen Yang, and then walked aside to answer the call.
Jiang Yining noticed this scene and seemed to be deep in thought.
Ten minutes later, Ye Wu ended the call and saw Chen Yang sitting alone on the sofa looking at his phone, so he went over to him. He stammered a little as he said:
"Mo Xi's call... Um, I updated my WeChat Moments a few days ago, saying I was following you, and she saw it somewhere... I clearly blocked her."
Chen Yang paused for a moment, then asked, "Why are you so nervous? Are you afraid of her or me? I won't blame you. What did she say?"
"She asked me for my address, saying she wanted to come and visit."
"Didn't they say anything else?"
"I asked about your situation and told you you ran a guesthouse, but I didn't reveal anything else. Also, she said she's currently working in Shanghai."
Chen Yang smiled and said, "Shanghai? That's quite close."
Ye Wu nodded, then said, "I told a few of my former classmates about you opening an inn; she should be able to find out if she wants to."
Chen Yang's phone rang. He glanced at it, held up the phone, and said, "Look, no need for all that trouble, she contacted me directly."
Upon hearing this, Ye Wu's face showed a hint of anger, and he said, "Does she still have the nerve to contact you?"
Chen Yang shrugged indifferently and said, "She hasn't done anything to wrong me, so why is she embarrassed to contact me?"
"Hasn't she wronged you yet? Leaving you when you were at your lowest point!"
Ye Wu's voice was a little loud, but he lowered it after being glared at by Chen Yang.
Chen Yang is usually quiet and has a good personality, but Ye Wu listens to Chen Yang and trusts him completely.
"Okay, you don't need to worry anymore. I'll talk to her."
After saying that, he picked up his phone and opened the chat window.
"How have you been lately?"
This is a message from Mo Xi.
"Not bad," Chen Yang replied simply.
The other party replied quickly, seemingly having been waiting for a message.
"You've heard about it from Ye Wu, right? I'd like to visit your inn."
"OK."
The other party fell silent again. Chen Yang's simple two words seemed to leave Mo Xi on the other end of the phone at a loss for words. Perhaps the ease with which he answered surprised the other party.
"I'll go and stay there for a few days on the 3rd of next month."
"Okay, I won't charge you."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome."
The chat ended there, and then Chen Yang greeted Wang Bing and asked him to reserve a room for him.
Ye Wu returned to his room dejectedly. He had barely sat down when two girls walked in and closed the door.
Ye Wu stared in disbelief at Li Su'er and Jiang Yining.
"What...what are you going to do? I'll yell."
