Ye Wu was the first to show off his chosen name, writing four characters on the ground with a twig.
Night Park.
"What do you think? Isn't the name poetic? It even sounds the same as my surname," Ye Wu said with a smile.
"This isn't a name your intelligence could come up with, I have no objection," Chen Yang said, and everyone nodded in agreement. The name of the dense forest behind the cabin was thus decided: Night-Staying Forest.
Then came Wang Bing, who picked up a tree branch and wrote down the name he had come up with for the snow-capped mountain—Cang Er (耼耳).
Wang Bing has been cooking under the Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake in Dali for over twenty years; this is his way of commemorating the Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. No one seems to have any objections to the name.
"I'll go next."
Jiang Yining took the branch and wrote two delicate characters on the ground: Mo Yuan.
"I hope this is fertile black soil," Jiang Yining said with a smile.
This time, someone cast a dissenting vote; it was Ye Wu.
“I don’t like the pronunciation of ‘墨’ (mo),” Ye Wu said.
Chen Yang glanced at him and said, "Four against one, next."
Li Su'er came out with a smile and said, "Then you must like this pronunciation."
Chenghu Lake.
This is the name Li Su'er gave to the lake. After writing it down, she even raised an eyebrow at Chen Yang.
Ye Wu was the first to raise his hand in agreement, and the others, except for Chen Yang, also raised their hands with smiles. Chen Yang knew that it would be useless for him to vote against it.
He took the branch and wrote down a name they would recite every day thereafter—Xiandu.
When these two words were uttered, everyone was stunned, not immediately understanding their meaning.
Guo Zifeng pondered for a moment, then revealed a look of sudden realization: "忺 means joy and happiness, and 度 means land and country. Translated, it means a place of joy, a happy country. Moreover, 忺度 is a homophone for 仙都, implying that this place is a paradise beyond the mortal world, a fairyland on earth. 忺度忺度, what a great name!"
Guo Zifeng's explanation made everyone realize what was happening, and their expressions towards Chen Yang were immediately filled with admiration.
Chen Yang smiled without saying a word, tacitly agreeing with Guo Zifeng's statement, but inwardly he felt a cold sweat break out.
"The first half is correct, but what the hell is that 'immortal' thing in the second half? I didn't even know it could be interpreted that way. Luckily, it was right to keep quiet when you're trying to be cool."
And so, these iconic places in the micro-world were given names.
Everyone's enthusiasm was mobilized. It was just a few names, and nothing really changed, but everyone's mindset was different. It was as if this place had become their second home.
In fact, it's no different from a second home.
Guo Zifeng seemed to have developed an interest in pottery making. He made a special trip to several pottery workshops to learn the techniques of pottery making. He even made a blower, adding two fan blades inside and a few simple small parts, which could easily rotate to inject air into the fire and increase the fire intensity.
Ye Wu, on the other hand, became obsessed with archery. In reality, he bought two bows and targets, and then practiced with Li Su'er at the back door of the inn. Fortunately, they used blunt arrows, and their accuracy was quite good, so they rarely missed the target; otherwise, the wall at the back door of the inn would definitely be riddled with holes.
Jiang Yining then began learning to weave straw mats, video chatting with her mother every day and receiving hands-on instruction.
Wang Bing was responsible for taking care of the two sheep, and the tasks of fishing and checking the traps also fell to him.
As for Chen Yang, he would occasionally take Ou Huang out to find new resources, occasionally practice archery and hunting with Li Su'er and Ye Wu, occasionally help Guo Zifeng make pottery, and occasionally follow Wang Bing to catch fish and check traps.
He was involved in all the work except for weaving straw mats.
Everyone has found their place, and they are busy every day, living a very fulfilling life.
"Congratulations! Your micro-world development level has reached 50% of the first star level. Please go to the center of the world to receive the mission."
At Chen Yang's urging, a new task finally appeared. He had been monitoring the development progress and guessed that a task might be available when it reached 100%. This was because tasks in the micro-world seemed to be phased, and the phase was determined by the development progress.
Chen Yang had never understood how the development level was calculated, but he noticed that it had increased by several percentage points three times.
There were three times: once when he and Li Su'er entered Yebolin, once when he fired pottery, and once when he successfully built a fishpond.
He estimates that exploring uncharted territories and modifying natural forces can greatly increase development.
Chen Yang is more looking forward to what changes will occur after the Micro-World is upgraded to a star.
The stone slab inside the cabin now only has one star shining on it.
The increase in development level has not brought about substantial changes. Chen Yang estimates that only upgrading to a higher star level can bring about change.
As he pondered, he walked into the small wooden house and pressed the stone slab.
"The 'Defend Against the Wolf Pack' mission has been activated. Within fifteen days, a wolf pack may attack at any time. Please prepare for defense. Note: There will be a one-hour delay when you exit the micro-world during a wolf pack attack."
Chen Yang was dumbfounded.
Wolf pack?
Will the wolves attack them within fifteen days?
If it's a direct attack on Xindu, then unless there are forty or fifty wolves, there's little hope.
After experiencing the wolf pack and the tiger in Nightbury Forest, Chen Yang had been paying attention, and with the base's defensive measures, he could easily defend against twenty or thirty wolves.
He noticed the key points of the mission: the fifteen days and the delay in exiting.
For fifteen days, they ran out of food and water. To replenish their supplies, they had to venture out, where they risked being attacked by wolves.
If they were in the wild and encountered a large pack of wolves, they would barely have a chance to put up a fight even if they all joined forces.
Chen Yang had a premonition that this wolf pack was definitely more than just a few.
He also needs to come up with a reason to explain to others so that everyone will be alerted.
With their current reserves, they would need to go out at least twice in ten days to have enough food.
The only saving grace was that, because Guo Zifeng had fired enough earthenware jars to store water, they didn't have to worry too much about their water source.
Another very simple method is to not enter the micro-world for ten days.
As long as you provide the two sheep with 15 days' worth of hay and water and keep them in the cabin, they won't have to worry. They can come in after 15 days, and everything will be over.
However, Chen Yang realized that this wolf attack was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Xindu's development.
If the wolf pack is eliminated, they will have enough fur and jerky, and will not have to worry about warmth and food, allowing them to devote more energy to development and exploration.
Chen Yang didn't consider the question of whether to accept the challenge for too long.
Within the micro-realm, they do not truly die. He doesn't have to gamble with his own and his companions' lives. If he avoids battle, he will despise himself.
Chen Yang walked out of the cabin, pretended to stroll around the outskirts of Nightfall Forest, and then returned to Xindu, where he solemnly gathered everyone together.
“I just spotted a large pack of wolves on the outskirts of Nightbury Forest. They were lingering on the edge of the forest, not far from us. I think we're being watched.”
Seeing the shocked expressions on everyone's faces, Chen Yang continued, "Get ready for battle."
