Back in her room, Yafei had already taken off her clothes and was getting ready to sleep, while Lin Wangshu was still absentmindedly looking at her comic book, her eyes occasionally glancing at the incandescent light above her head.
The light bulb flickered a few times before plunging into complete darkness.
Lin Wangshu couldn't wait to throw down the comic book and tiptoe out the door.
Upon arriving in the living room, Lin Wangshu found Jiang Weidong nowhere to be seen. She frowned, secretly angry. They had made a promise, and he dared to break it.
But then she suddenly felt a few taps on her shoulder. When she turned around, she bumped into a ghostly face that was shone pale in the light of a flashlight.
Lin Wangshu's heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively opened her mouth to scream.
Jiang Weidong quickly stepped forward and covered her mouth, moved the flashlight aside, and said in a low voice, "It's me, it's me, Little Moon."
Upon seeing it was him, Lin Wangshu first breathed a sigh of relief, then raised her eyebrows, angrily stomped on him hard, and slapped his hand aside.
"Jiang Weidong, aren't you annoying? You're so scary, you're terrifying!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Jiang Weidong felt a pain in his foot, but he didn't show it on his face. He just apologized to her guiltily.
Jiang Weidong didn't know what was wrong with him, but he always wanted to tease her, and even when he was scolded, he felt happy inside.
Lin Wangshu was still angry, thinking he was deliberately teasing her. She snorted and turned to go back to her room.
"Little Moon, wait a minute." Jiang Weidong quickly grabbed her and smiled ingratiatingly, "I really know I was wrong, I really have something to tell you."
Lin Wangshu was genuinely curious, and reluctantly followed him to the cabinet.
When she saw him pull a wire from his pocket, Lin Wangshu finally understood what he was planning to do, and exclaimed in surprise, her mouth slightly agape, "When did you learn to pick locks?!"
Jiang Weidong fiddled with the wire for a few moments before opening the cabinet door. Hearing this, he asked in confusion, "Do I really need to learn this? Just try it a few more times."
Watching him stealthily pull out a bag of peach shortbread, Lin Wangshu sighed and said, "You should join the army in the future."
Otherwise, she was genuinely afraid that this person would go astray in the future.
Jiang Weidong led her to the dining table, quietly took out a peach shortbread, and handed it to her like a treasure, saying, "Here, you eat first."
After Lin Wangshu took it, he licked his lips, took out another piece, and took a big bite.
Fearing discovery, Jiang Weidong turned off his flashlight. Even in the dark, Lin Wangshu could guess how he was eating and couldn't help but laugh, "You ate so much tonight, have you been tempted by the anti-imperialist movement?"
Jiang Weidong choked and coughed incessantly, trying to suppress his sobs. Lin Wangshu quickly patted his back and said with amusement, "Why are you eating so fast?"
After Jiang Weidong recovered, he looked up at Lin Wangshu with an incredulous expression, "How did you know?"
Lin Wangshu snorted and said irritably, "You're being so obvious, it would be strange if I didn't notice."
Jiang Weidong chuckled and quickly changed the subject, saying, "We did go to feed the anti-imperialists, but do you know who we ran into on our way back?"
Lin Wangshu took a bite of the peach shortbread and asked casually, "Who is it?"
"It's Auntie! She's carrying something that looks like a cannonball, and she looks very proud and imposing, like she's going to war!"
Hearing him say that, Lin Wangshu chuckled softly, "I know what she's carrying, it's a dog skin rug for Uncle Ding."
"Auntie is so good to Uncle Ding," Jiang Weidong exclaimed. "It's not even winter yet, and she's already worried he'll get cold."
Jiang Weidong suddenly grinned mischievously, "Little Moon, do you think Auntie likes Uncle Ding?"
"Of course, anyone with eyes can see that," Lin Wangshu said confidently.
"But what is liking?" Jiang Weidong wondered. He had noticed Dehua's recent changes and was curious whether liking someone could have such a powerful magic.
Lin Wangshu didn't quite understand either. After pondering for a while, she said uncertainly, "It should be like my aunt, who can't help but be nice to that person and want to take care of him."
Jiang Weidong nodded as if he understood, and after a moment of silence, he suddenly said something surprising: "Then I like you."
Now it was Lin Wangshu's turn to cough. Her face was flushed, whether from choking or embarrassment, she didn't know. She said angrily, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Seeing that she was angry, Jiang Weidong innocently explained, "You said it yourself. I always want to be good to you and take care of you. Look, even when I'm eating peach shortbread, I'm only thinking about you."
"That's just sophistry!" Lin Wangshu felt flustered, her cheeks burning, and she retorted with a fierce but weak voice, "Besides, you're my brother, we can't settle things like that."
"Oh." Jiang Weidong was confused by what she said, and then belatedly realized that he seemed to have said something outrageous, so he dared not say anything more.
The air fell eerily quiet for a moment. Neither of them spoke, they just lowered their heads and ate the peach shortbread in their hands, but neither of them was at peace.
After finishing the peach shortbread in her hand, Lin Wangshu felt a little uncomfortable, stood up and whispered, "I'm going back first."
"Oh, okay." Jiang Weidong, who had been in a daze, was brought back to his senses by her voice. He hurriedly stood up and turned on his flashlight. "I'll see you off."
Lin Wangshu pursed her lips, about to refuse, when she saw Jiang Weidong pointing at the corner of her mouth and whispering, "You have peach crumbs on your lips that you didn't wipe."
Lin Wangshu just wanted to get back as soon as possible. Hearing this, she absentmindedly wiped her face and turned to leave.
But Jiang Weidong called her back again, frowning and saying seriously, "Not there, it's on the other side."
He knew Lin Wangshu was a germaphobe, and that she would definitely feel uncomfortable if she accidentally rubbed herself on the bed later.
So he reached out to wipe it off for her, and just then, Lin Wangshu subconsciously stuck out her tongue and licked it.
When their fingertips touched, both of them were startled. Jiang Weidong, in particular, recoiled as if he had been electrocuted, pulling his hand back behind his back, his heart pounding like a drum.
When he met Lin Wangshu's shocked gaze, he had a thousand words he wanted to say, but in the end, he could only blush and stammer out, "I just washed my hands."
Lin Wangshu opened her mouth again and again, her face growing hotter and hotter, but in the end she said nothing, turned around, and hurriedly went back to her room.
Jiang Weidong's mind was also a complete mess. He packed his things in a daze and returned to his room without even hearing Jiang Weiguo's question.
Lying in bed, he could still feel that soft touch. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but gently pinch the tip of his index finger with his thumb, trying to get rid of the feeling that made him feel flustered.
After all, he's the older brother; liking someone doesn't count.
