Peng Ze mounted the camel, took out the little gadget Gu Nian had given him to indicate the direction from his pocket, then determined the direction and led the way.
Lu Zheng rode his camel closely behind Peng Ze.
"My second sister gave it to me, knowing I was coming." Peng Ze turned his head and explained to Lu Zheng, "Xue Er went to Langge Kingdom to look for you. If he saw the mark you left, he would definitely come looking for you. By the way, did you leave a mark?"
"Mm." Lu Zheng nodded.
He left marks along the way, using the same system as the Pengze Naval Camp. Xue Qianyu had spent so much time in the naval camp last year, so he naturally learned to recognize these codes.
“According to the map, we’ll reach a collapsed stone house in about an hour. It’s been cleared out; it’s where the Langge Kingdom rested on their way west of the desert.” Peng Ze paused, then continued, “Since you’re injured, we’ll rest there for two hours and leave at dawn. Then we’ll head north; that’s a desert region the Langge people have never been to, so the pursuers shouldn’t come. We’ll follow the path north of the water sources on the map; they’ll only take the routes they’ve already taken. After bypassing a few tribes, we’ll reach the Flowing Sand Kingdom. Third Sister is in the Flowing Sand Kingdom now.”
"How did Xin Xin get to the Flowing Sand Kingdom? Is she alright?" Lu Zheng asked.
“She was saved by Cheng Huaijin. After escaping from the Sand God Kingdom, she went the wrong way and headed southwest. After crossing a snow mountain, she was in the territory of the Langge Kingdom.” Peng Ze glanced at Lu Zheng. “She said that if she hadn’t met Cheng Huaijin that day, she would have been captured by the soldiers sent by the Langge Kingdom to guard the snow mountain. Even if she hadn’t been captured, she might have died.”
Lu Zheng frowned, disliking hearing this.
If it weren't for the Cheng siblings, Xin Xin wouldn't have fallen for Yin Yue Li's tricks.
“Zhou Yuan, Langge Kingdom has blocked all routes between the East and West. I came from the snow-capped mountains, just like you. So, even though Cheng Huaijin recognized Third Sister, he wasn't confident he could safely deliver her to Kunzhou, so he took her to his own place,” Peng Ze added.
“I understand.” Lu Zheng paused for a moment, then asked, “How did they send messages?”
Peng Ze glanced at the compass needle in his hand to make sure the direction was correct before bringing up Gu Xin's communications with the Gu family and the collusion between Langge Kingdom and Yunhai Tribe.
“I know that. I went into King Lang’s bedroom and overheard it. I’ve already written back to tell my second uncle. I just don’t know how quickly King Lang will react. If he does, the pigeon probably won’t be able to fly back. If he’s a little slow, there’s still a chance,” Lu Zheng said.
"I set off with Xue Qianyu after receiving my third sister's letter, and it's been quite a few days now." Peng Ze wasn't sure if the pigeon had flown back.
"I discovered it on the first day of the Lunar New Year," Lu Zheng said, stating the time.
“We left early, so we didn’t even know the pigeons had flown back,” Peng Ze nodded and said.
"Does the map show how long it will take to get to that quicksand country? We've been walking in the desert for several days already, how much longer will it take to reach the quicksand country?" Lu Zheng asked again.
"Take a look for yourself! I don't know the time, but the distance between where we are now and the cities in the country near the desert in Delange is shown." Peng Ze tossed the map to Lu Zheng.
Stealing the map was something he had planned long ago. He just wanted to give it a try. Lange Kingdom had allied with the western desert, so how could they not interact with each other?
