Chapter 20 'Reading from the Script'

Chapter 20 'Reading from the Script'

When the car arrived at the entrance of Mansion No. 3, Wenxi was still not awake.

After a moment of contemplation, Shang bent down, pulled Wenxi into his arms, and steadily went upstairs to the second floor.

Wenxi was sleeping so soundly that she didn't realize it at all.

At midnight, she suddenly woke up and opened her eyes.

Shang Shen had just finished a multinational conference and had just pushed open the door to his bedroom.

Shang Chen: "Did I disturb you?"

Wenxi rubbed her temples. "No, I woke up on my own."

She was still a little confused: "What time is it?"

Shang Chen: "It's twelve o'clock."

He thought Wenxi would sleep until dawn, but he didn't expect her to wake up suddenly.

Wenxi looked exhausted and was a little drowsy. "You go to sleep first, I'm going to take a shower."

Shang Chen: "Mm."

When Shang Chen reached the bedside, he suddenly remembered something.

Wenxi just went to take a shower, and it seems she didn't take any clothes with her?

He wasn't in a hurry to go to sleep. He glanced at the criminal law case book that Wenxi had looked at last time on the bookshelf and took it out.

Not long after, there was a sudden noise in the bedroom.

After taking a shower, Wenxi felt much better and was fully awake.

She only realized something was wrong when she reached for her clothes.

She didn't bring in any change of clothes.

Wenxi wasn't one to be pretentious; wrapped in a bath towel, she opened the bathroom door.

Looking up, I saw Shang Chen leaning against the headboard reading a book.

Shang Chen slowly looked at her. "The nightgown is on the sofa."

Wenxi: "?"

"I wanted to remind you as soon as you went in," Shang Chen said, "Next time you forget your clothes, just call out and I'll get them for you."

He had prepared a nightgown for Wenxi in advance, just waiting for her to call out.

Who knew Wenxi would just show up like that?

Shang Chen's gaze swept over her snow-white skin, his eyes remaining unchanged.

Wenxi gave a vague reply: "Okay."

She walked to the sofa and saw a neatly folded nightgown.

This nightgown is the one she wore that night.

Wenxi picked up her nightgown and couldn't help but glance at Shang Chen.

The book he was reading was the same one she had read that night.

Wenxi realized for the first time that beneath Shang Chen's rigid and conservative exterior lay his true nature—a repressed and passionate nature.

We're all adults; some hints don't need to be too obvious.

Wenxi went to the bathroom and put on her nightgown.

Her skirt swayed slightly, concealing two straight, white legs that were very alluring.

When Wenxi came out, she saw two glasses of red wine on the table.

Shang Chen had his back to her, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, exuding a cold and imposing aura.

Hearing the noise, Shang Chen turned around, his eyes dark: "Want a drink?"

Nightgown, books, red wine... the exact same routine as that night.

It felt like they were just reciting from a script, but there was also a subtle sense of ambiguity and tacit understanding in the air.

It suits Mr. Shang's personality very well.

Wenxi stepped forward, took the wine glass from his hand, raised an eyebrow, and said with a half-smile, "I'm afraid you'll choke again."

Shang Chen: "I won't feed you this time."

Wenxi took a small sip, the rich aroma of the wine sliding down her throat and burning in her lungs.

People seem to become more emotional after drinking alcohol.

"Aren't you... tired?"

I got off the plane at 5 o'clock, went out to eat with her, and then attended an international conference, which lasted until 12:30.

Does he still have the energy to cause trouble?

Shang Chen remained silent, answering Wen Xi's question with his actions.

The soft yellow light from the bedside lamp enveloped the two of them, highlighting the man's broad shoulders and back, their smooth lines exuding power.

Wenxi's waist was constricted, and she could hardly bear it, so she tilted her head back.

Her slender fingertips rested on Shang Chen's broad shoulders, then suddenly tightened, gripping his shoulders tightly.

The bracelet I had just put on my wrist swayed slightly, the purple diamonds emitting a faint glow in the night.

As night fell, the bracelet swayed, its speed gradually increasing.

After two times, Wenxi's hair was wet.

However, she seemed to be in good spirits and not too tired, probably because she had slept for a while that night.

I glanced at the clock on the bedside table; it was already 1:30.

She looked away and saw Shang Chen's dark eyes staring at one spot.

Wenxi followed his gaze and her heart skipped a beat.

The box was just opened, and there's one left.

Wenxi: "You...have obsessive-compulsive disorder?"

Shang Chen lowered his eyes, his dark and unfathomable gaze falling on her face. "Hmm?"

His voice was a little muffled, and Wenxi didn't quite catch it, so she just took it as a tacit agreement.

Wenxi: "..."

She had met several clients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and this was the first time she had realized that obsessive-compulsive disorder could exist in such matters.

She figured she had nothing to do tomorrow morning, so she might as well indulge herself.

In order to end it sooner, she took the initiative to hook her arms around Shang Chen's neck, her voice a little hoarse, and leaned on Shang Chen's shoulder, the two of them seemingly sleeping with their necks intertwined.

"How about we change positions? I'm out of energy."

Without hesitation, Shang Chen wrapped his strong arms around Wen Xi's waist and turned the two of them around.

Wenxi placed her palms on his chest, sweat dripping down his neck.

She suddenly wanted to suggest to Mr. Zhang that he switch to two sets, as having more would be detrimental to his health.

When Shang Chen opened his eyes, it was already 8:30 in the morning.

He rarely gets to sleep in, and his gaze falls on the person in his arms.

Wenxi leaned against him, their arms draped together.

Shang Chen's skin tone is fair, but it looks noticeably different compared to Wen Xi's.

The purple diamond bracelet hanging on her wrist had a slightly cool feel to it, highlighting the slenderness and beauty of her hand bones.

Shang Shen opened his large hand slightly and took Wen Xi's hand in his palm.

Soft and delicate.

Staring at their tightly clasped hands, Shang Chen suddenly felt that... purple suited Wen Xi very well.

In the afternoon, Wenxi was going on another business trip.

Before leaving, she said to Shang Chen, "Mom said she'll have someone deliver something this afternoon. I won't be here, so could you please receive it for me?"

"Okay." He considerately said, "Shall I have the driver take you to the high-speed rail station?"

Wenxi remained silent for a moment, then, without being stubborn, said, "Okay."

Shang Chen noticed her discomfort and said, "I will restrain myself next time."

Wenxi seemed about to speak but then stopped.

Shang Chen: "What's the problem?"

Wenxi: "Can your obsessive-compulsive disorder... be changed?"

Shang Chen gave Wen Xi a deep look. "I'll try my best."

Wenxi breathed a sigh of relief.

If Shang Chen doesn't change his obsessive-compulsive disorder, he'll insist on using it all every time... Wen Xi felt a little backache just thinking about it.

It took her all morning to recover.

The last time, Shang Chen was a bit fierce, and she almost couldn't handle it.

How can someone who seems so pure and detached from worldly desires be so greedy in this kind of thing?

Wenxi could only attribute everything to Shang Chen's obsessive-compulsive disorder, or perhaps the indulgence of a novice driver.

When they arrived at the high-speed rail station, Bai Wei waved happily.

Upon seeing Wen Xi, Bai Wei smiled subtly: "Wen Lu, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and it's certainly true!"

Wenxi raised an eyebrow.

"Your face screams four words," Bai Wei said, both timid and eager to provoke her: "Excessive indulgence."

Wen Xi replied without changing her expression, "I'm tired from working overtime."

Bai Wei shook her head seriously: "No, Wen Lu, don't try to fool me!"
