Chapter 9 Take You to Elope

As for Qin Ge, he was at the construction site during the day these days, and took advantage of the lunch break to go look for houses. Zhang Danian saw that he was too busy, and when he heard that he wanted to rent a house near Jinghai University, he found him a few cheap houses.

Qin Ge took a look and found that it was quite cheap, but it was all a basement, which was converted from a room that the landlord used to store sundries. A wooden bed was squeezed into the room of less than five square meters, and only half of the window was exposed.

The landlord said there is absolutely no problem for two people to live here. There are several couples living here, all of them are young couples who came to Hai City to work like you.

Qin Ge took a look inside. The narrow aisle was filled with debris, and overhead were clothes washed by men and women hanging out to dry, dripping with water.

The air in the basement is not circulating and there is a musty smell everywhere. Although the smell here is much better than on the construction site, when I think of how clean it was in Shengxia, I can't bear to let her live in such a place.

Seeing that he was still hesitating, the landlord continued, "Your price is already very cheap here. Otherwise, you can only go to the guesthouse in front. But that is a big dormitory with several people sleeping there at night, making it inconvenient to do anything."

In the end, Qin Ge paid more money, found a large courtyard next to Jinghai University, and rented a single room in it.

The construction site had to stop working because of the rain. Qin Ge bought a ticket and went to Qingshui County. When he arrived at Shengxia's house, he found that his grandmother was not at home, so he went straight to Shengxia's house.

It was already six o'clock in the afternoon, and Shengxia was still lying on her side on the bed with her back to the door. She was wrapped in a blanket, and she didn't know what she was dreaming about, but she slept very uneasily.

Qin Ge tucked the blanket in for him: "Baby..."

Shengxia had a nightmare. Ever since she applied for the university, she had been dreaming about her previous life. She dreamed that after she left Qin Ge in her previous life, she was tricked by a little singer into giving him all her money.

After learning that she really had no money, he started beating and kicking her in anger.

At first he beat her with a stool, but later he felt unsatisfied and found an iron chain from somewhere and beat her with it, causing her to cough up blood and fall to the ground.

Shengxia was awakened from a nightmare by Qin Ge's call. Looking at the young Qin Ge in front of her, a feeling of unreality came over her, and she threw herself directly into Qin Ge's arms.

Shengxia hugged him tightly, and Qin Ge was almost unable to move. He had to support himself on the bed with one hand and soothe Shengxia's back with the other hand: "What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

Shengxia's thin back was covered in sweat. She hugged Qin Ge, her cheek pressed against his neck, feeling the warm and powerful beating there. This was actually real. She really lived again.

Shengxia leaned against him and said anxiously, "I just had a dream... I dreamed that you didn't want me anymore, and you let others beat me. They beat me with thick wooden sticks. I felt like I was going to die. It hurt so much."

Qin Ge frowned, as if just hearing these words had caused an uncontrollable rage in his blood. He paused, touched her head as if to comfort her, and said seriously: "Watch less of those fighting and killing movies in the future, you're always imagining nonsense."

Shengxia raised her face and acted coquettishly towards Qin Ge: "Kiss me."

Qin Ge looked down at the little girl's rosy lips, which looked like peach blossoms, and kissed her. The two kissed for a while before Shengxia felt better.

Shengxia was still a little sleepy, her voice mumbling with sleepiness: "Qin Ge, are you here to pick me up..."

Qin Ge nodded. It had been almost a month since they last saw each other, and Shengxia seemed to have lost weight again.

"Why are you losing weight again?"

During these days of midsummer, I couldn’t sleep at night and couldn’t eat well because of those dreams.

She rubbed her eyes and said coquettishly: "It's because I'm too far away from you."

Qin Ge's eyes were somewhat helpless. He added some hot water to the basin and wrung out a towel for her: "Don't you know how to take care of yourself? Not only me, but grandma will be worried too."

Shengxia sat on the edge of the bed and wiped her face. The towel muffled her voice, as if she was very far away. “You know I can’t take care of myself.”

Qin Ge knew she was acting like a spoiled brat again, so he just shook his head and asked, "Have you packed your luggage?"

"I've almost packed everything, except for some clothes." Shengxia pointed to the clothes her grandmother had packed for her on the ground. She told her grandmother that she and Zhang Xiaofen were going to Hai City to work during the summer vacation. At first, her grandmother didn't let her go, but she couldn't resist her nagging and finally agreed.

Shengxia packed up all her things, stuffed her admission letter in her pocket, and Qin Ge carried it downstairs.

Grandma looked at Qin Ge carrying her luggage, and her heart was alarmed: "Why is he going with you?"

Shengxia reached out to stop Qin Ge who was about to speak: "Grandma, he just took my luggage and sent me there. We don't work together."

Grandma glanced at them both suspiciously.

Then he was still a little reluctant, so he took Shengxia's hand and stuffed some more money into her pocket.

Shengxia hugged her grandmother and said, "Don't worry, grandma. Hai City is only a few dozen kilometers away from us. If you miss me, I can take a car back."

Grandma smiled and patted her shoulder, saying, "Study hard and don't worry about home. I'm fine."

The two caught the last bus to Hai City.

The car started, and Shengxia couldn't wait to ask: "Where are we staying?"

"I rented a house near your school." Qin Ge said.

Shengxia turned her head while looking at the scenery outside the window: "Which floor is it?"

"The courtyard on the first floor."

Shengxia didn't respond, her eyes drooping, as if she was thinking about something.
