Chapter 20: Caught
Chen Qing was slow to react due to the fever and didn't say anything for a long time.
Yan Baiqing suddenly smiled, "Don't you recognize me?"
"Mr. Yan," she greeted hurriedly, "Are you here at our school on business?"
The man hummed and said nothing more.
Chen Qing was just being polite and didn't care to answer, so he stepped aside to make way.
"You look very bad." Yan Baiqing frowned.
She put on a mask and said, "It's just a cold."
"Back to school so early?"
"Well, Mrs. Luo gave me a task."
Among the school leaders following Yan Baiqing was Chen Qing's department head. He had seen her at the opening ceremony and performance, and had also met her when evaluating scholarships.
Seeing that he called Chen Qing affectionately, she thought there was a relationship and quickly came over, "Mr. Yan and Chen Qing are very familiar with each other?"
"Um."
“Not familiar.”
They both answered together, but gave different answers.
Chen Qing rubbed his hands awkwardly.
Yan Baiqing's eyes flashed with a hint of ridicule, and he turned back and repeated, "I know him, but I'm not familiar with him."
The department head smiled and said, "That's perfect. We're going to the cafeteria. Chen Qing, come with us."
Chen Qing didn't want to embarrass him in person and was about to find a suitable excuse to shirk responsibility when Yan Baiqing put on leather gloves and stepped down the last step. "No need. I'll accompany Qing'er to the infirmary and give you a tour. Please feel free."
Several leaders looked at each other.
The department head winked at Chen Qing, urging her to answer.
Helplessly, she nodded, "Sorry to bother you, Mr. Yan."
As they walked out of the corridor of the office building, the department head quietly pulled Chen Qing over and instructed, "Mr. Yan is here to donate money to the school. Remember, say what you should say and don't mention what you shouldn't say. Come find me when you're done."
She hummed, "I see."
"Go, go!"
Chen Qing trotted a few steps and caught up with Yan Baiqing.
The leaders watched her get into the car and saw them leave.
The car was filled with Yan Baiqing's unique woody scent. Chen Qing felt dizzy and a little carsick.
"You feel bad?" Yan Baiqing kept his distance, but asked with concern, "Why did you come out when you were sick?"
"I'm here to get my leave note. I have to join the group for rehearsal tomorrow."
"Mrs. Luo's group?"
"No, it's an offline performance at a charity dinner." She answered honestly, not as reserved as she was in front of outsiders.
"Did you get it?"
Chen Qing shook his head.
Yan Baiqing saw that she was not in good condition and stopped talking to her.
When I arrived at the infirmary, I took my temperature, which was 39 degrees, and the doctor arranged for me to have an IV.
Chen Qing felt it was a waste of time and insisted on just taking the medicine.
"Get the IV." Yan Baiqing unbuttoned his jacket. "I'll stay here with you."
"Really? No need. I still have to meet with a professional teacher. I have a rehearsal tomorrow and I have a lot of classes at the beginning of the semester—"
"I'll take care of the leave," he interrupted forcefully.
Chen Qing was stunned.
She and Yan Baiqing really had no friendship. The two times they met were because he was Mrs. Luo's leader. But it was so strange that they suddenly became so close.
"Mr. Yan, do you need my help with something?" Chen Qing asked bluntly.
Yan Baiqing had his coat hanging on his arm and was looking at her and smiling.
Chen Qing found that his eyes were very beautiful. The light from the snow outside the window made his eyes look particularly charming, unlike Jiang Jingyan's eyes which were so deep and captivating.
Jiang Jingyan is solemn and stern most of the time, but occasionally gentle.
Yan Baiqing is hazy, and even in a bright environment, he is still mysterious and hard to see through.
Chen Qing's heart skipped a beat for some reason, and he pursed his lips. "Do you need me to tell Mrs. Luo something?"
After a few seconds of silence, Yan Baiqing pulled up his trousers and sat down. "What message can you convey to me?"
She stopped talking.
He crossed his legs, tapping his knees with his fingers intermittently. "But you're right about one thing. I intend to show my goodwill to Mrs. Luo. As her student, I naturally have to treat her well."
Hearing this, Chen Qing paused, "No more?"
"No more." Yan Baiqing laughed, "Qing'er, are you willing to give me this chance?"
She stood there, thinking for a moment, "Mr. Yan, I'm not someone who can have a say in the Luo family. Mrs. Luo considers me a student, but that's just a courtesy. It's not a formal master-disciple relationship. If you have something to ask of me, I'm afraid it will be in vain if you start with me."
Yan Baiqing's face was calm and collected. "No problem, just consider it as making friends."
Chen Qing didn't have the energy to argue and followed the infirmary teacher to get the medicine.
She also had to report to the department head and could not just abandon a big shot who was respected by all the school leaders.
Returning to the lounge, Yan Baiqing was standing by the window, apparently answering a phone call.
She waited a moment, her phone vibrating in her pocket.
The person on the screen is Mr. Jiang.
Her breath caught in her throat and she answered the call instinctively.
"Where is it?"
"School."
The man by the window turned around and spoke as he walked, "Qing'er, I—"
He looked up, saw Chen Qing's actions, fell silent, and motioned her to continue.
Chen Qing held the phone in his hand, his back feeling like it was crawling with ants gnawing at him.
There was silence for a long moment, then a light laugh came from the other end. "Qing'er?"
