Day 10 of failing to pass the level
Looking for them?
Peter and Adrian were puzzled. They had no personal relationship or connection with Mrs. Veronica. What was she up to?
Peter couldn't understand the complicated relationship between Mrs. Veronica and the Francis family, and he couldn't understand why the big boss repeatedly indulged Mrs. Veronica.
Could it be the Skovic that the big boss mentioned?
There are countless pieces of information about the surname Skovic online, with several Skovics appearing in a row, leaving Peter and Adrian at a loss for where to begin.
Even after using the process of elimination, two Skovichs remain. One is a famous artistic family, whose members are mostly involved in entertainment arts and have a certain reputation.
A family that made its fortune in biomedical technology now only has a few members, and if two more die, it will be completely wiped out.
Peter and Adrian: Second pass.
The fragile family couldn't withstand the big boss's assassination attempt.
Peter knew the big boss all too well; whenever anyone or anything threatened him, the only thing waiting for the enemy was the big boss's ruthless elimination by any means necessary.
Even if it's his brother, if he repeatedly infringes on his interests, the big boss will get rid of him.
Peter was surprised that the second boss could keep going for so long; the first boss had become so benevolent, like a completely different person.
Big bosses are never kind; if they are, it's only because they're profitable.
"Peter, accept Veronica's invitation."
No sooner had they received Mrs. Veronica's order than the big boss issued his own.
What a perfect teamwork! Using him as a scout.
Peter had nowhere to confide in, so he could only scrub Adrian vigorously until the fluffy creature struggled from his scrubbing before regretfully letting go.
Who would pet a puppy against its natural fur? He asked, "Who would do that?"
Adrian struggled desperately but couldn't break free from his boss's embrace; the seemingly strong and reliable arms had become Adrian's confinement.
If it were a real dog, he'd make sure the boss knew what a dog was, and that he'd be letting the boss down if he didn't bite him hard—that's the wrong way to pet a dog.
Peter was unaware that he had almost experienced the harshness of life by being bared at by a puppy. Perhaps realizing the severity of his actions, Peter guiltily stroked the puppy a couple of times.
Alright, after accepting the boss's subtle gesture of goodwill, Adrian rested his head on his shoulder, his eyes filled with utter despair.
The big boss then asked, "Peter, have you found evidence of the second boss's betrayal?"
Peter:
No, that's not true.
It's hard to say whether his subordinates are too useless or the second boss is too loyal. Peter doesn't know what the big boss and Mrs. Veronica are up to. The truthfulness of what Deathstroke said to him remains to be analyzed. All he can do is prioritize protecting his own interests.
The second boss going offline now is more beneficial than harmful to him; more people means more excitement, right?
However, the second boss cannot be completely absolved of responsibility.
Peter chose to process the statements his subordinates gave him and then pass them on to the big boss.
"The second boss's behavior is normal, but Sean's dealings with unknown forces are highly suspicious..."
After some internal struggle, the big boss hesitated before saying, "You don't need to worry about them. Just remember to attend the Francis family banquet two days from now."
To appease Peter, the big boss promised: "Peter, after this is over, you will get the entire North American arms transport route."
!!
Peter thought to himself that the big boss was really going all out, first giving him access to the family's core arms production line, and now preparing to put him in control of the transportation channels.
With the latter, he no longer needed to worry about the Assassin's Guild interfering with his purchase and sale of weapons.
Peter didn't care about the big boss's empty promises; what he got was his.
"Woof," you seem like a sly villain.
Peter froze. He grabbed the puppy's muzzle and gave it a half-smile as a warning.
Peter's silence made the big boss think that Peter was not satisfied with his promise. He was waiting for Peter's answer, and if the answer was not satisfactory, he would need to re-evaluate Peter.
“Really? I mean really? No, I’m just too happy,” Peter recalled how excited and incoherent his subordinates were when he was chosen by him.
"Thank you for your appreciation, boss. I will do my best to complete your orders."
“Very good, Peter, I’m looking forward to your success.”
......
Judith couldn't understand why Veronica had called Peter. Winning him over should have been a private meeting, something that couldn't be made public, not something that everyone would know about.
Having everything laid bare only makes people more cautious in advance.
Veronica, noticing Judith's question, scoffed, "What do you know? The best way to get close to him is for everyone to know. Francis won't allow one of his chosen successors to have an ambiguous relationship with me and the Skovic family."
Veronica, now dressed in a long dress, leaned back in her armchair, her usual frivolous and arrogant demeanor gone, replaced by an unusually cold expression.
Moreover, "Francis found out about my affair with Steven, so that connection is ruined. Sean probably won't be able to keep it a secret for long either. We need to prepare for the worst. By the way, what are your plans, sister?"
Veronica recalled her ambitious sister; the fact that she sent someone to investigate meant that she wasn't the only one interested in the Francis family's arms business.
Judith looked down at the gold-embroidered carpet on the floor and replied, "Madam tells us to follow Miss Er's orders."
"Follow my instructions." Veronica tapped the armrest lightly, her expression unchanged.
Judith, as her sister's most trusted subordinate, was loyal to the Skowitch family not only because of her loyalty but also because of her outstanding skills.
How can we make the best use of resources?
After thinking for a moment, Veronica said, "Find a time to get rid of Sean and pin it on Steven. No, do it right now. Take care of Sean before Francis and the second boss can react. The protective second boss really won't suspect the eldest brother he just finished talking to?"
"What if the second boss doesn't react as we predicted?"
“What do you mean, what to do?” Veronica frowned. “If he doesn’t want to, let him die. Francis won’t live much longer. Steven is a good-for-nothing. He still hasn’t taken control of the power his father left behind. I’m the only one left who can control the Francis family.”
Judith: "Have you forgotten about Peter?"
"Peter?"
Judith: "It seems you've really forgotten that Peter is one of the successors chosen by the big boss. Even if he is Deathstroke's disciple, and his mentor has a partnership with us, it's only fair that Deathstroke would put greater interests at stake and expect them to uphold the partnership and not betray us. Besides, Deathstroke has a bad reputation for his disciples. Veronica, you should think more comprehensively when you ask Peter to listen to a teacher who treats him like a chore."
Judith's last sentence already carried a didactic tone.
Veronica retorted, annoyed: "Am I not already working on it?"
"You call Peter over and then use a few words to fob him off and threaten him, and that's considered a solution? Look at me, Veronica! You dare say you haven't thought of that!"
Judith looked directly at Veronica, a rare occurrence for him. Perhaps he saw through her indifference, but his lips twitched. He still didn't dare risk letting Veronica face Peter directly.
Whether it was the title of Deathstroke's disciple or their brief encounter, Peter's ruthlessness and cunning were deeply etched in Judith's mind.
Those who oppose him will bleed. Judith's heart sank. Was John Motison torn in two by him? Wasn't it Peter who cut him?
Judith said sternly, “When Peter arrives, I will talk to him. You are not allowed to make a sound.”
Veronica fiddled with the pen in her hand, "...Okay."
Anyone could hear the reluctance in her tone, but Judith didn't care.
"Then you must tell him exactly what I ask, and you are not allowed to bring in your own agenda."
"Don't worry, I'm not you."
Judith thought to herself that she hadn't changed at all after all these years.
*
Inside the garden villa, a young man and a middle-aged man sat facing each other.
"Why didn't you bring your dog today?"
"His name is Ali."
“Okay, Ali, why haven’t I seen Ali today?” Judith raised an eyebrow as she held up her red tea.
"He's outside the mansion, why are you paying attention to him?"
Peter was suspicious. Mrs. Veronica had invited him to meet Judith, and now he was asking Ali what he was up to.
"Don't be nervous, I just want you to relax and not be so tense."
Peter chuckled. "If you're just spouting this meaningless nonsense, I don't think we need to continue."
The subtle threat was neither too strong nor too weak, but it effectively made Judith abandon her probing. He said directly:
“I hope you will not interfere with our actions at the family meeting in two days; I mean any actions.”
"You want me to stand by and do nothing? What good will that do me?"
When Judith heard that Peter wanted something in return, she relaxed, knowing that if he wanted something, then they could talk.
"The Francis family's arms sales channels in North America."
Peter thought he'd heard a joke: "The big boss gave me the entire North American arms transportation and sales operation."
Judith: "What about adding South America?"
Peter: "Ha, even the big boss couldn't fully develop the South American market, and you want me to go and pioneer it?"
Instead of trying to fool him with a half-finished product, it would be better to sell them to the big boss for a profit. At worst, he can continue arguing with Deathstroke.
Judith knew that what he offered wouldn't entice Peter. After a moment's hesitation, she said, "So what do you want? This is your last chance to make an offer. Don't ask for too much."
Judith's straightforwardness surprised Peter, and he didn't mince words either, "I want to see the lady, Mrs. Skovich."
?
Judith's expression gradually turned cold. "Madam doesn't see outsiders, and I have no right to relay your message."
What is Peter going to do?
Peter: "Just include me in your report to Madam, saying that I have a business deal with the Assassin's Guild to discuss with him. Whether or not you meet him is Madam's decision."
An assassin's guild? The lady and Ms. Talia seem to know each other very well.
Seeing Judith hesitate, Peter added fuel to the fire, "Don't worry, Madam will see me when she hears that the League of Assassins has been invited."
"It's a deal then!"
"It's a deal!"
Peter stood up, turned around, and left the mansion without looking back, leaving Judith with a vague regret that she had agreed too easily.
Artificial sunlight falling on green leaves hides many unknown secrets.
"Woof woof," how did the eldest get the result?
Adrian, leaning on his boss's leg, was pacing anxiously, his curiosity driving him wild.
Peter: "Everything is going well. We should go and report the details of the invitation to the big boss."
"Woof," did they sell them?
"How could that be? We're just selectively selling; we can't bet on one company."
Peter looked at Ali's gray eyes and said gently, "Never mind, just watch what I do. As long as the puppy is happy."
