Chapter 17

Chapter 17

"Where does this Dr. Xu work? How did you get the medicine from him? Where is it?"

"He works in the Second Hospital. I went directly to his office and he gave me the medicine." Gu Yuan answered everything.

On the congested highway, a large number of vehicles were forced to squeeze through a passage. Several police cars, sirens blaring, moved through the traffic at lightning speed. Wu Tong was so tired. This was already his eighth yawn. Xuan Li, sitting in the back seat, laughed and said, "Tongtong, are you so tired?"

Wu Tong turned around when he heard Xuan Li's voice and forced a smile: "I haven't slept enough."

"Yeah, that's just how it is in our line of work. You definitely can't handle it." Xuan Li then started to complain about Xiao Yuncheng again: "Xiao Yuncheng didn't even bother letting you rest for a bit, and brought you along. He really doesn't care about anyone at all!"

Xiao Yuncheng, who was driving: "?"

Wu Tong laughed so hard that she fell towards Xiao Yuncheng, her hand on his shoulder, her eyes still looking at Xuan Li: "Hahaha, Captain Xiao, this shocking blame is on his head - it was me who wanted to come here, it has nothing to do with him."

Xuan Li chatted non-stop with Wu Tong, who was almost turning to the back seat. Xiao Yuncheng glanced at him nonchalantly, then suddenly swerved the steering wheel, sending the car swerving rapidly. Wu Tong lost his balance and nearly fell on Xiao Yuncheng. Xiao Yuncheng helped him up, saying calmly, "Sit tight."

Wu Tong looked at him in bewilderment, and only reacted after a while. He smiled frivolously again, leaned close to Xiao Yuncheng and whispered, "Are you jealous?"

Xiao Yuncheng glanced at him with an ambiguous expression and pushed him back into his seat. Xuan Li, who was in the back seat, was picking out takeout, completely unaware. She leaned forward with her phone and handed it to Wu Tong: "Tongtong, let's go get this later? I think they have a lot of good reviews."

"Sure," Wu Tong replied, "I'll listen to you, Sister Li."

When Xiao Yuncheng heard this name, he looked at Wu Tong in confusion: "Sister Xiao Li?"

"It's only natural for Tongtong to call me sister! I'm one year older than you and five years older than Tongtong. If he doesn't call me sister, what should he call me?"

Xiao Yuncheng retracted his gaze and said lightly, "Call me Auntie."

"Fuck you!!!"

Wu Tong was laughing so hard that his mouth couldn't stop. Even his beautiful peach blossom eyes narrowed into a pair of crescents. He leaned against the backrest. Xiao Yuncheng found that Wu Tong looked more youthful when he laughed like this. His whole body seemed to be coated with a layer of warm light, which made him look a lot more lively.

Indeed, he is still a child, Xiao Yuncheng thought.

The police car had a smooth journey and soon arrived downstairs at the Second Hospital. Xu Ze's office had been blocked off. The dean said that Xu Ze had not returned three days ago.

Xu Ze's office was very clean and tidy, without even a speck of dust. Xiao Yuncheng lowered his head and asked Wu Tong in a low voice, "Does he have mysophobia?"

Wu Tong said that was the case. Xiao Yuncheng quickly put on his shoe covers and gloves and walked in with the trace investigators. He walked over to the desk, which was covered with several medical records and documents, but there were no other meaningful clues. Suddenly, Xiao Yuncheng saw a flash of white. He looked over and saw it was a bunch of roses.

Xiao Yuncheng beckoned Wu Tong to come in. When Wu Tong approached, he handed over the bouquet of flowers: "Is it the same?"

Wu Tong stared at the bouquet for a long moment, then nodded. Xiao Yuncheng put it in an evidence bag and took Wu Tong to a nearby bookshelf. Wu Tong glanced over the bookshelves, which were mostly medical books. Suddenly, he noticed something different: a book with a white cover. Wu Tong pulled it out, only to find it was blank.

Wu Tong turned around and pulled Xiao Yuncheng over. Xiao Yuncheng took the book with suspicion and flipped it open. He saw a line of words written on the first blank page. The pen strokes were sharp and powerful:

Tu Mi, also known as Tu Mi, was praised by the Buddha when he saw it.

Xiao Yuncheng and Wu Tong exchanged a glance. Wu Tong looked at the bouquet of flowers in his hand and couldn't help but feel a little shocked. Xiao Yuncheng covered his hand and said, "What did you think of?"

"Remember what I told you?" Wu Tong said, "He gave me the same bouquet 20 years ago."

Xiao Yuncheng's eyes widened slightly as he looked at the notes in the book and said, "So this is..."

"He's hinting at me." Wu Tong sighed and slowly closed his eyes as he exhaled.

Xiao Yuncheng didn't quite understand: "What are you hinting at?"

Hearing this, Wu Tong opened his eyes again and said word by word, "He wants revenge."

"Captain Xiao, we've confirmed that Xu Ze is the second murderer, but we still can't find him. What should we do?"

Xiao Yuncheng walked ahead at a brisk pace, listening to the report from the trace investigators. Wu Tong and Xuan Li walked behind the team. Xuan Li crossed his arms and said to Wu Tong, "Are you hungry?"

"A little." Wu Tong raised his hand and touched his stomach, as if to feel whether he was hungry or not.

Xuan Li pulled his arm and quickened his pace: "Let's go, tell Xiao Yuncheng we're going to eat."

Wu Tong didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Sister Xiao Li, why don't you look like you're at work at all?"

"Work is work," Xuan Li glanced around and whispered in Wu Tong's ear, "You still have to eat."

"What are you doing?"

Speak of the devil, and here comes Xiao Yuncheng. He looks at the two of them, arms linked, and coughs twice, quite deliberately. Their friendship is ruined by this "Cao Cao." Even before getting in the car, Xuan Li is still complaining, "I'll just talk to Tongtong about going out for dinner!"

"You can't be together! There's a difference between men and women, don't you understand?" Xiao Yuncheng refused to back down, and the two of them started arguing for no apparent reason. Wu Tong sat by, watching the scene, the others bewildered: Why was Sister Xuan Li arguing with Captain Xiao? Why was Consultant Wu laughing so happily? Were they still here to solve the case?

Lin Chen and Shi Qian in the crowd covered their eyes at the same time, complaining that those people were as unruly as those who came out for shopping.

In the end, Captain Xiao bowed down to Xuan Li's spitting and took the two of them to the restaurant. Xuan Li took Wu Tong to a seat by the window, and Xiao Yuncheng followed and sat across from Wu Tong. A moment later, the waiter came over with a menu and a smile.

"Would you like to eat this?" Xiao Yuncheng pointed at a dish on the menu and asked Wu Tong. Wu Tong took a closer look and shook his head.

"What about this?" Wu Tong still shook his head.

"So what would you like to eat, little painter?" Xiao Yuncheng asked with a smile. Wu Tong tapped the table lightly with his fingers and thought for a moment. He took the menu, opened a page, and showed it to Xiao Yuncheng. Xiao Yuncheng turned to the waiter and said, "A sweet and sour pork tenderloin rice bowl, please."

The remaining two people ordered their meals and chatted together. Xuan Li twirled his teacup with his fingers and asked Wu Tong, "Tongtong is a painter?"

Wu Tong was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously looked at Xiao Yuncheng. Xiao Yuncheng immediately responded: "He likes painting."

Xuan Li said "Oh" and didn't take it seriously, but the other two felt a little guilty. Xuan Li glanced out the window, and something seemed to attract his attention, which attracted Wu Tong to look out the window as well. When he looked out the window, he met someone's gaze, and Wu Tong's eyes widened immediately!

Across the street, Xu Ze, wearing a white shirt and a pair of silver-framed glasses, was looking at Wu Tong with a smile. He opened his mouth and silently said to Wu Tong: Cell phone.

Wu Tong slowly picked up the phone and turned on the screen. There was a text message on the lock screen from an unfamiliar number: You haven't been home for a long time.

"Tongtong, what's wrong with you?" Xuan Li saw Wu Tong staring at the phone motionlessly. Wu Tong immediately turned off the screen and raised his head, trying to make himself look as natural as possible, and said with a smile that it was okay.

Why did Xu Ze know he was here? Had he been following him? Why did he know he hadn't returned home? What was he hinting at? Wu Tong's mind nearly exploded. Xu Ze's appearance was like a hook, instantly snatching away all of Wu Tong's thoughts and senses. The crowd on the street blurred, and his sight was fixed on Xu Ze's clear face, which was raised to him.

Xiao Yuncheng noticed that Wu Tong had lost his composure after checking his phone. He was slow to react and absent-minded, as if his soul had been sucked out of him. Xiao Yuncheng suspected that Wu Tong must have seen something that caused him to behave this way. After leaving the restaurant, Wu Tong finally said, "I might need to go home."

"Hey, what's the matter?" Xuan Li asked. Before Wu Tong could reply, Xiao Yuncheng interrupted her and said, "Sister Xuan, let me get you a taxi back to the police station. I'll take Wu Tong home."

Xuan Li didn't understand what was going on, so he just nodded and agreed. Only after watching Xuan Li get in the car and drive away did Xiao Yuncheng turn to Wu

Tong and him were face to face. Xiao Yuncheng took his hand, but his tone of voice was flat: "What did you see?"

Wu Tong hesitated to speak. He couldn't tell Xiao Yuncheng that he had just seen Xu Ze smiling at him across the street, could he? Wu Tong thought about it and forced a smile, saying, "You're overthinking it. I just haven't been home for a while."

Xiao Yuncheng pursed his lips, his expression not very good, but he did not ask any further questions. He whispered, "Let's go, I'll take you home," and went to the parking lot with Wu Tong.

Neither of them said anything along the way. Wu Tong was a little worried that Xiao Yuncheng might have noticed something, so he was unhappy about his concealment, but he also knew that it was not the time to tell everything yet, he had to find Xu Ze first.

The car slowly stopped. Xiao Yuncheng pulled the handbrake without looking at Wu Tong: "We're here."

Wu Tong felt uncomfortable seeing him like this. He was tangled in his heart for a long time, and finally sighed, put his hand on Xiao Yuncheng's hand on the steering wheel, and said softly: "Don't think too much, I'll go back and take a look."

"Are you really okay?" Xiao Yuncheng then looked up at Wu Tong. He felt as if his heart was stuffed with a ball of cotton all the way, making it difficult for him to breathe.

Wu Tong smiled bitterly, looked into his eyes, and said in a somewhat unstable voice: "Do you... believe me?"

Xiao Yuncheng pursed his lips and said nothing, but opened his arms towards him. Wu Tong was stunned for a moment, and finally embraced him in a compromising manner. Xiao Yuncheng patted his back lightly and said in a hoarse voice, "Call me if you have anything."

Wu Tong put his hand on his back, buried half of his face in his neck, and nodded gently.
