Chapter Thirty: Hide and Seek
30
The tall man completely enveloped the female ghost's figure, and dark shadows flowed over her body like water.
Wen Zhuo pushed his face away, pursed her lips which seemed a little numb with annoyance, and said with dissatisfaction, "Is that enough?"
Wen Zhaoye moved his head away from her hand, like a wild beast that had filled its belly, his face full of satisfaction. He grasped Wen Zhuo's wrist, buried his face in her palm, and pressed his high nose against her hand.
His warm breath landed on her soft palm, and a jolt of electricity suddenly ran through her, making Wen Zhuo shudder.
Wen Zhaoye looked up, raised an eyebrow at her, took her hand, rubbed his thumb in her palm, and pulled her out of the temple.
"Why are you shaking?" he said with a smile, as if he had completely detached himself from his previous emotions, showing no trace of his previous sickly appearance. Only the redness at the corners of his eyes revealed what he had just done.
"It's amazing that you managed to find us. You didn't even bring your phone. How did you remember the way?"
Wen Zhuo shook her head, looking at Wen Zhaoye in disbelief. Her right hand was restrained, so she switched to her other hand to rub her chin, lost in thought.
Her memories only extended to when she left home; after that, she remembered nothing, not even how she died. At that time, Wen Zhaoye's attitude towards her was that of a normal brother who cared about his younger sister. How did he become like this now?
Wen Zhuo didn't understand. Could something else have happened during that time that caused their relationship to develop so rapidly?
She thought and thought, could it be that Wen Zhaoye is pursuing her?
Wen Zhaoye stopped walking at some point, staring at her pensive face without saying a word. Wen Zhuo bumped her head into his arms, and Wen Zhaoye immediately pulled her close and dragged her forward.
Wen Zhuo, walking backwards: "......"
Wen Zhuo was lost in thought. Wen Zhaoye half-embraced and dragged her home. As soon as she got home, she disappeared from Wen Zhaoye's side like a fish in water.
"Wenzhuo!"
Wen Zhaoye failed to catch her and walked into her room with a cold face.
A white shadow swept past her bedside, her phone disappeared on the bed, and the white shadow turned a corner and disappeared into the closet.
"Clatter".
My phone is lost again.
Wen Zhuo: "..."
She sheepishly poked her head out of the closet and retrieved the phone, which couldn't pass through walls.
The screen's light shone on her face as she sent a serious message to Xie Huai.
She had previously seen Xie Huai's number on Wen Zhaoye's phone, secretly transferred it to herself using his phone, and then deleted the message. It seems that Wen Zhaoye may not have watched the surveillance footage from that period, as he didn't come to ask her about it.
[It's raining today: Besides his blood, was there anything else my brother charged me for turning me into a ghost?]
[AAA Local Ghost Hunt: Why don't you just ask your brother?]
[It's raining today: He was too vague, always making me guess, but he gave me the key word: obsession.]
Wen Zhuo stared at the screen, waiting for his reply.
Xie Huai stopped contacting Wen Zhaoye abruptly. Was Wen Zhaoye planning to tell his sister everything instead of explaining things himself?
[AAA Local Ghost Hunter: Yes, you died peacefully. I don't know why you had no lingering resentment. It was an accidental death, and you were so young. You should have some resentment, even just a little. Wen Zhaoye's blood could have turned you into a ghost.]
[AAA Local Ghost Hunting: But you didn't. You seemed to have given up all hope for your life, and you died so simply. We didn't even have a chance to pull you out in time.]
Wen Zhuo: "..." What do you mean? Can't you say it more nicely? She's just a very open-minded person!
Everyone has to die eventually, and her relatives happened to find her biological daughter. Her real parents didn't seem to care about her at all. She could be said to have truly died without any distractions, something that many modern people can't do!
She lowered her head and angrily typed.
[It's raining today: And then?]
Xie Huai sighed as he recalled the scene. Wen Zhaoye left in silence after learning the answer, and Xie Huai hadn't seen him for a long time. Xie Huai thought he was going to give up on the matter.
He thought Wen Zhaoye was going to let Wen Zhuo die peacefully.
The next time Xie Huai saw Wen Zhaoye was at a banquet that his parents had forced him to attend. Xie Huai was wandering around, not chatting or socializing, just strolling, when he saw Wen Zhaoye in the backyard of the banquet hall.
His face was deathly pale, and he didn't look alive. Xie Huai thought that Wen Zhaoye was finally going to go with Wen Zhuo. He approached him warily, smelled the blood all over his body, and saw the yin energy surrounding him.
Xie Huai immediately realized something was wrong. Wen Zhaoye hadn't let go of Wen Zhuo at all; this person was just putting on an act!
Wen Zhaoye's stubble had sprouted on his chin. He leaned against the table and glanced at him sideways: "Want to help me?"
Xie Huai couldn't understand why Wen Zhaoye was so obsessive. He frowned deeply and grabbed Wen Zhaoye's collar without even looking around: "What are you thinking? Do you really want to go down and be with your sister?"
Wen Zhaoye responded like a dim-witted AI that would respond to any keyword: "Sister, I want to see her."
Xie Huai couldn't take it anymore. He felt like he had been incredibly unlucky to have made such a friend: "What new way have you been torturing yourself?"
Wen Zhaoye lowered his eyes: "She has no obsession, but I do. I want to give her my obsession."
The phone vibrated violently a few more times, pulling Xie Huai out of his memories and looking at his phone. It was a message from Wen Zhaoye.
[Her brother: ? What are you doing?]
[Her brother: You believe everything my sister says, right?]
Xie Huai paused in replying to Wen Zhuo, accidentally sending the message he had only typed halfway through. He immediately deleted it, ignoring the question mark Wen Zhuo sent, and sent three question marks back to him speechlessly.
[AAA Local Ghost Hunt: ? ? ?]
[AAA Local Ghost Hunting: What do you mean? You weren't planning to tell your sister?]
[Her brother: Why would I tell her this? Are you mentally challenged?]
Xie Huai: "......" Are you two siblings out of your minds?! You're only targeting me, aren't you?!
Xie Huai thought for a moment, then typed a few words and sent them.
[AAA Local Ghost Hunt: How did you know what Wen Zhuo and I exchanged? Were you with her? Why didn't she ask you?]
[Her brother: Because I don't know how to answer.]
Xie Huai rolled his eyes at his phone. This brother who's such a siscon has moments like this. He even chose such an ambiguous WeChat name. He's actually showing off that he has a sister but doesn't want to reveal her name.
[AAA Local Ghost Hunter: Oh. I've already replied. You're doomed, get ready to get yelled at!]
[AAA Local Ghost Hunt: Wait a minute! How did you know she was messaging me when you weren't even with your sister? You're a pervert! Blocked.]
Wen Zhaoye: "..."
Wen Zhuo's phone was prepared by him, of course it had a tracking device and real-time monitoring, isn't that normal? What if Wen Zhuo accidentally gets scammed online? There aren't many good people out there, he's just taking precautions.
Wen Zhaoye thought Xie Huai was making a fuss over nothing, and besides, his sister knew that he liked to put surveillance cameras in the house, but it was just for location tracking, so she would understand.
He put away his phone, stepped into his house, and saw that the house was empty. A faint smile appeared on his lips, and his footsteps echoed softly in the empty hall.
Are we going to play hide-and-seek?
Wen Zhuo, who was huddled in the closet, sneezed, wrapped herself in yin energy, and muttered to herself in confusion, "Ghosts can catch colds too?"
What did Xie Huai post? He retracted it way too quickly. She only saw a few words. This is not how you delete traces. Wen Zhuo was in a very awkward position. She struggled to turn over and scratched Wen Zhaoye's clothes hard.
That's right, she moved her base. She believed that the most dangerous place was the safest place, so she resolutely slipped into Wen Zhaoye's room.
Wen Zhaoye's wardrobe is really uncomfortable to sleep in! I'll suggest he get a bigger one when we get out.
Wen Zhuo continued to knock on Xie Huai's door.
[It's raining today: Why are you speaking so secretly?]
A red exclamation mark suddenly appeared, and a question mark popped up above Wen Zhuo's head. She kicked away Wen Zhaoye's shirt, which was dangling beside her legs, in annoyance.
It must be Wen Zhaoye! Did he slip something into my phone?!
You're insane!
Wen Zhuo angrily kicked Wen Zhaoye's clothes a few more times, as if she were doing a kicking exercise in the closet. The white shirt was covered with gray shoe prints from her kicks.
Wen Zhuo got up and decided to use a convenient way to vent his anger to vent some of his anger through text.
[Today it's raining: What did you add to my phone?! Are you crazy? Always monitoring this and that, are you going to report to the CIA if you keep this up?]
[Rainy today: Wen Zhaoye!! Are you out of your mind?! You're not going to put some kind of tracking device on me again, are you?!]
Otherwise, how would this guy know she was with Xie Huai! She typed angrily, her fingers tapping the screen loudly.
[It's raining today: You deserve to die!!]
Wen Zhaoye's phone was vibrating wildly in his pocket. He initially thought Xie Huai was having an episode, so he took out his phone while surveying the villa, raising an eyebrow.
[Unknown breed of taxi driver: Wait until this game of hide-and-seek is over, then I'll find you and settle the score.]
[I don't know what breed of taxi driver: You can calculate it however you like.]
He happily put his phone back and stepped onto the second floor.
Wen Zhuo: "???"
She seems to want to settle accounts, not sleep with him, right? How could this be a reward? She could kill Wen Zhaoye with one punch!
Is this correct? Has Wen Zhaoye's brain deteriorated?
She vigorously rubbed her hair, turning her waist-length hair into a mess. What was this? It seemed like she hadn't agreed to start this game of hide-and-seek!
Shouldn't a game be something that two people enjoy playing together?
Wen Zhuo shut her mouth, and the surrounding air calmed down. The silence suddenly became oppressive, forcing her to try to catch the faint sounds around her.
"Clatter".
Footsteps came from the doorway and stopped outside. Wen Zhuo felt like she was in an American horror movie, listening to Wen Zhaoye open one door after another in each room.
The door opened and closed, but his steps remained light and casual; the cramped space inside the wardrobe was almost suffocating Wen Zhuo.
She cautiously peeked through the crack in the wardrobe door and saw a tall figure with a smile on his face, his eyes scanning around. He seemed to accidentally meet Wen Zhuo's gaze before quickly looking away.
Wen Zhuo felt a tightness in her chest, but after a while, she realized she wasn't suffocating. Then she remembered that she was a ghost and didn't need to breathe.
She saw Wen Zhaoye wander around for a few minutes and then seemed to be preparing to look in another place. She felt relieved. The next moment, when she looked up again, Wen Zhaoye suddenly walked straight towards her, and his dark eyes met her gaze.
Startled, Wen Zhuo shuddered and fell down, crashing into the wardrobe door with a loud bang.
Wen Zhuo: "......" It must have been intentional, it must have been intentional!
That damn Wen Zhaoye!
Suddenly, a ray of light pierced the darkness inside the wardrobe, and a figure stood outside, smiling, but looking in with a hint of surprise.
"Isn't A-Zhuo here?"
